  4. I don't regret wanting to get into the profession, i may say otherwise when Nursing school hits in the fall but at the moment i am eaten up with it and cant imagine doing anything else.....I know it is going to be hard work but i want it....this past year with generals isn't challenging.....i want a challenge and i know i am going to eat my words but hehehe
  5. I have joked that that is a tattoo that i would want......to me, agreed that isn't legally binding, but it sounds like she wants to take charge of her health care. But i think I'd find a medical power of attorney that would uphold what my wishes were.
  6. a christian nurse's gift [color=#33cc00]a nurse's gift to her patient, to serve, to reach, to pray, to be an example of what christ was. [color=#33cc00]a~a christian nurse! how best to help others today? c~called to serve the lord in a very special way. h~having a heart to help the hurting one-the ill. r~reaching out, giving so much more than just a pill. i~ in prayer for those he daily entrusts to your care. s~seeking his divine will to be a blessing there. t~tenderly caring, as the great physician heals i~ in empathy dealing with how your patient feels. a~always striving to do more than duty demands. n~nurses committed to the lord are his own hands, [color=#33cc00] n~nurturing the sick one skillfully back to health. u~unselfishly serving him without thought of wealth, r~realizing the blessedness of your giving s~serving the saviour, dear nurse-what joyful living! e~envision in heaven, his pleased salute "well done!" s~smiling as you stand glowing before him-god's son. [color=#33cc00] g~greater riches than mere earthly money or fame i~ is the timeless reward of nursing in his name. f~forever knowing that your work is then complete. . . t~there won't be one sick person in heaven to treat! [color=#33cc00]i think society has painted a somewhat negative picture of what a nurse is and the meaning behind the profession. so, when i found this it was very refreshing to see something positive, in a negative world. [color=#33cc00] [color=#33cc00] [color=#33cc00] [color=#33cc00]i wasn't sure exactly where to put this, so it can be moved wherever need be. :) but i thought this was totally wonderful. :) [color=#33cc00] [color=#33cc00]mandi [color=#33cc00] [color=#33cc00]
  7. happy new years everyone!!! i wanted to know, how do you personally describe your chosen profession to someone else, another nurse, or lay person. i have not made my way *yet* to this wonderful profession, but getting there. i graduated high school in the spring of '06 with my cna license. i was more proud of being the valedictorian of my program and being one of less than 20 high school students in my county to graduate with my license, than i was of graduating high school. to me, i find this difficult. how can one person's ultimate passion be described to someone else who doesn't share that passion. i don't think it can. i believe that nursing is one of the hardest, most fulfilling, heart-breaking, ultimately rewarding professions out there. to me, being a nurse is more than just a job. also, it is not about the money. how can a person's heart felt educated attempts to give the best care possible be monetarily rated. i think i could go on forever about my passion :) let me know what you think! :wink2: :redbeathe mandi
  8. I assume i will start the fall of 07' took this year to get many pre-req hours out of the way. i took and passed the NLN Friday the 15th :) my score was an early birthday present to myself :) I turned 19, six days before Christmas :) Min for BSC is 100, my score was 126 out of 160 So with my score and transcript i shouldnt have any trouble getting into the AD program :) so i will be 19 entering the program
  9. mandirocker posted a topic in Nursing Humor
i don't know if anyone has read this or if has been posted, but i thought it was cute :) [color=olive]twas the night before hipaa (in the e.r.) [color=olive] [color=olive]'twas the night before surgery, and all 'cross the floor [color=olive]the patients were buzzing 'bout the guy in room four. [color=olive]his chart was hung on his door with great care [color=olive]to make sure his name was not shown anywhere. [color=olive] [color=olive]the patients were nestled all snug in their beds [color=olive]while telemetry monitors beeped overhead. [color=olive]and i in my gown, with its crack in the back, [color=olive]had just settled down for my clear liquid snack. [color=olive] [color=olive]when down the hall there arose such a clatter, [color=olive]i sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. [color=olive]i pulled off my leads and flew out the door, [color=olive]with my iv pole dragging behind on the floor. [color=olive] [color=olive]away to room four i hurriedly dashed [color=olive]unaware of my gown and the nurses i flashed. [color=olive]as i slid to a halt and leaned to peek in [color=olive]i heard the nurse say, "sir, you mustn't go in!" [color=olive] [color=olive]and what did i see when i looked in bed a [color=olive]but ole mr. claus; on his belly he lay. [color=olive]covered in gauze and stuck high in the air, [color=olive]oh, what a sight, 'twas st. nick's derriere! [color=olive] [color=olive]he was yelling at doris, the nurse at his side [color=olive]to be tied to this bed, he just could not abide. [color=olive]he moaned and he bellowed about his ill luck \n>>>but there was just nothing for it; the old man was stuck. \n>>> \n>>>"what happened to santa?" to doris i said, \n>>>"why is he on his belly in this hospital bed?" \n>>>with a grin she whispered, "he did something stupid. \n>>>he injured his butt when he backed into cupid." \n>>> \n>>>but the old man's ears were sharp as tack. \n>>>he heard what she said there behind his back. \n>>>"you had no right to speak, and that is a fact! \n>>>don't you know about hipaa, the privacy act?" \n>>> \n>>>"you're out of compliance, doris, my dear. \n>>>you had no right to tell him 'bout my injured rear! \n>>>i'll sue you for breach, and this hospital, too! \n>>>you won't have a job when i'm through with you!" \n>>> \n>>>"when i check my list and then check it twice, \n>>>you'll be in the column labeled 'not nice.' \n>>>the office for civil rights soon will drop by \n>>>to find out why you, doris, did not comply!" \n>>> \n>>>"they'll want to know why you opened your yap, \n>>>a big, hefty fine on your butt they will slap. \n>>>and from me every christmas you will now see \n>>>nothing but switches and coal 'neath your tree." \n>>> \n>>>so take heed of your privacy notice, and zip \n>>> \n>>>your lips, and your records, and files encrypt, \n>>> \n>>>and in privacy's silent night, you too may hear \n>>> \n>>>"merry christmas to all and a hipaa new year!"",1] ); //--> [color=olive]but there was just nothing for it; the old man was stuck. 10. thanks to everyone who have posted!!!! i absolutely love my 20th ed. taber. it was a graduation gift from my mentor/ best friend, who teaches mt's :) she taught me in both mt's and the host (heath occupation science & technology) program. thanks for all opnions and etc. mandi
  11. how many colleges require nursing students to take a class in mt's? i believe that medical terminology is a huge part of the nursing or for that matter, any medical profession. my stance is, how can someone do a job without knowing the language? i think it is darn near impossible. when i met with my nursing adviser this summer, i asked her about mt's, she said she thought that was a great idea because that is what first year nursing students struggle with the most is the terminology. at this point, the college i attend doesn't require nursing students to take the course but the class is offered on my campus through a technical college that is partners with the one that i attend. although they are together, they are not the pest of friends. while i was in high school, i was lead to believe if i took edge classes (like medical terminology) i would receive college credit if i passed the state exam, which i did. there was one class that i took, where i was the only one to receive the credit(74 or higher), the other 20+ either failed, or passed according to the school system grading policy (64 or better). since the college i attend and the technical college are not friends, i did not receive credit for the many classes i took at a technical school and passed the state exams. i plan on taking medical terminology in nursing school, just to have an easy a because i use correct mt's all the time and a refresher course. so tell me, do you think medical terminology is an important class to take? and should it or should it not be required for nursing, rad tech, pre-med, etc. majors? thanks, mandi
  12. Some of these stories are very Funny....and as others have said have the Awwww factor of a 10 Before i graduated high school last year, i did a nursing internship. one weekend i was in the ICU, shadowing a nurse who's pt. was post-op T&A who had aspirated i believe. the entire weekend, just to keep this cite kid from pushing the call light, i colored, played and read books to this little boy. Ttttooooooo Cuuutteee.. I think little moments that are the awww factor is what nursing is all about..... Making a difference in someone's life. Mandi
