One more thing....you have to have a good holder to assist you!!! That's half the battle!!!! And if it's a child that has had multiple IVs in the past, always ask the parents where the best/worst place is! Parents know best!

I work in a PEDS ED @ a level One trauma center so I am all about starts! But our policy is you stick twice and if you don't get it, find someone else. I agree with that if you see it, you should try it. That's the only way you'll feel more confident and obtain that skill. But in some PEDS pts, you can't see it. You have to FEEL it! You can do this. The best thing to do is on all of your PEDS patients, whether they need IVs or not, look to see where you would place one if you had to. AC, hands, feet, etc. That way, you get used to looking and will feel more comfortable when the time comes. You can do it!

In infants, I do brachial. But the most important thing is to remember to compare all four extremities to assess for an undetected heart condition in infants.

I will make this as short as possible and would appreciate feedback! I work @ a children's hospital in the emergency dept. I am a RN/BSN. I also have a BS in Public Health. I enrolled last spring in an FNP program and have taken one class. School is scheduled to start August 25, and I am enrolled for 3 classes. It is a part time program and I will not be done until Dec 2012. (UGH). I pretty much enrolled for my masters degree in order to make more money. (I make less than $21/hr now...again...UGH). What I'm struggling with is this-I feel like I have enough stress in my life and don't want anymore! What I have not mentioned to this point is that my mother (hx of previous stroke and now balance problems) lives with me. This December, she will have lived with me for 7 years. It's hard. I'm not married, no kids. I feel like I have been in school my entire adult life. I am 35 years old. I feel like I began the FNP path, like I said, to make more money. If I could explore other options as far as how to make more money outside of the clinical setting....I don't know. I know 20 years from now, I won't want to or be able to work 12 hr shifts!! I'm really struggling and would love some insight. Maybe an online program would be better for me??? Does anyone have any insight into that? Struggling in TN! G

Cu does clinicals at SEVERAL sites...depends on the class. Health Dept, Vanderbilt, UMC, Summit, Sumner Regional, Cookeville, Metro, etc. Any other questions, let me know!

I took my NCLEX yesterday as well. 75 wuestions, A LOT of pahrm. It was awful...drugs I had NEVER heard of! No math...thank GOD! I will be suprised if I passed. I would have posted yesterday that I tested, but I was on my way to a friend's house in Louisville, KY...about 3 hours away from Nashville. We were scheduled to have a 'Spa day' due to my stress level. Anyway, I was on my way there and was in a car accident. Car is totaled..I am sore as heck!! Ikepp thinking, if I find out I pass tomorrow, the accident won't seem so bad. If I find out that I failed, yesterday will have been one of the worst days ever!!! I am thankful that myself and the other driver walked away. It was my Nissan Sentra vs his Ford F150...no chance formy little Sentra. Anyway, we will see tomorrow. G ps...thank God for seatbelts and airbags!!!!

congrats to all of you who have passed!!! good luck to all of us who will be taking it soon! i take mine tuesday june 19th...yeah...this tuesday. i won't ever be more ready than i am now. i don't feel stressed out, but my headaches are telling me otherwise! g

I am scheduled to take the NCLEX RN June 19...what is the ATI predictor? how can I do it??? We had exams we had to take at the end of our core nursing classes, they were the ERI. But they did not give us a percentage score. Is the ATI something you all did in school??? G

The starting pay at Vanderbilt Children's Hosp is $17.50, but you get an extra $6 on weekends plus night diff.

Does anyone on here know the starting salaries for new nurses in Nashville, TN??? I graduate in May and the hospital I am looking at starts @ $17.25...is that normal???
