  1. If pain could be measured objectively like say Hb levels, then interventions could also be addressed as such; One would therefore not have to rely exactly on the pt's own assessment. In this case however, one's decision is greatly influenced by what the pt reports(plus other observations of course) & it will be very difficult to justify or defend a nurse's stand like 'she is really not in pain' since PAIN itself is a sensation defined by the pt & expressed quite differently by individuals.
  2. Congrats Cher & all the best in the great journey of nursing ! ! !:balloons: :balloons: :balloons:
  3. I never thought i'd deliberately put a needle through s'ones skin
  4. Real gross, i'd been laughing hard until now. Sorry abt the experience...
  5. Universal precautions,- one should always wear gloves when there is the possibility of coming into contact with any bodily fluid. You'll never know...

Very funny, motorcycle mama... Death seems to be a very strange thing & each person's experience is unique. Haven't personally had these experiences but some people pass on with a struggle while others do so calmly sort of with serenity.
  7. Thanks a lot Lawrence, that was helpful. I'll also check out the links and threads as suggested. Merry X'mas too.
  8. I'm a Ghanaian nurse currently in the U.K on holiday but i'd like to settle in the U.S in the near future. I've already written and passed the IELTS exam. May i please know which 5 states currently require the CGFNS exam? I had perception that the VSC could only be obtained after passing the CGFNS exam and completing the CP/CES --sort of pre-requisite -- since it a service offered by them[CGFNS/ICHP]. Can other services offered be accessed without writing the exam? I'd be glad if you could enlighten me on this. I'd also like to know if the state for which i'm writing a board exam will carry out a validation or some sort of certification programme [so i can decide if the CGFNS is absolutely irrelevant for me], THANKS
  9. I certainly agree with you, some people grow up with certain personality or character traits which they will show in whatever profession the find themselves in.It may not necessarily be s'thg they learnt in nursing school or on the job -though that's posiible. It is however important that each individual has a 'sense' of her own so that such destructive behaviours does not get one down.:balloons:
  10. :roll :roll Funny what some human minds can do. This is one interesting thread!!! Never give your two-year old a bottle of coca-cola & store kerosene in the same bottle within reach of the child. Never try to perform a do-it-yourself abortion by inserting a poisonous tree branch/herbs into the lady parts or drinking a concoction of Guinness, sugar and broken glasses. Teenagers??? Never tell the doc you're a virgin whiles he is examining you & wondering why it feels like you are 8cm dilated. AMAZING HUH?
  11. Its amazing how common backstabbing is no matter which part of the world one practices - be it America, Africa, U.K, - wherever... It seems almost universal & the common factor is that its a "woman thing". Knowing this each one of us can make a conscious effort to avoid the habit and also prevent being affected by keeping conversations to just clinical issues & neutral stuff. It will give others little or nothing to "blah blah blah..." about.
