I have a quick question... First, for a little background information. I currently work at a ICF/MR facility where the unit that I work in is primarily a Skilled Nursing Unit Over half of our residents have G-tube, Seizure disorders and many other complex issues. Staffing for our unit normally consists of two nurses and 8 DCS (Direct Care Staff). The DCS have a supervisor (who is also a DCS who just have received a promotion and NO further additional training). The DCS supervisor is supervised by a QMRP. I have been told on many occasions that I am not the DCS supervisor even though they do provide basic Nursing Care such as Bathing, Appling Ted/ Jobst hose and etc. I have on many occasions given the DCS directives on how to do certain tasks, positioning and things that need to be done for our residents and am always met with resistance because "I am not their supervisor". So I take the information on tasks that need to be completed to the DCS Supervisor for her to instruct staff. Most of the time these directives are not followed through and resident care suffers. I have addressed these issues with the QMRP over this unit and yet again no assistance is ever received. I have spoken to Our ADON and DON about this and yet again nothing is done about this situation. I think they have become compliant over the years as our DON has worked here for over 30 years and our ADON for 15 years. Our ADON used to work the floor in the building that I work in so she says that she is familiar with what goes on. She has not worked in this building for at least 3 years and it has definitely changed. I am totally frustrated right now, I am at a complete lose of what to do. I do love my job and really do not want to look for a new one but I fear that it is coming to this. Have any of you ever faced a situation such as this and what did you do??

It could take as long as three days. I had takem my Boards (LPN) at 8 am got up out of bed the next morning dreading the inevetable. I got online and it was still pending. 4 hours later...still pending...4 hours later still pending. Of course now I am thinking I failed so I wait out the 48 hours to pay to get my results. I check the OBN website and I still am Pending. I go to the Pearsonvue website and it says that my results are not yet available, so I start calling people. First I called OBN and they told me to call Vue, so I called them and they told me that the NCSBN was holding my results for statistical analasys. So Of course I am freaking out knowing that I failed. Vue gave me the number to call the NCSBN to find out why my results were being held and when they were going to be released. So here I am talking to this guy. He told me that he just released my results and they should be available shortly. So after 53 aganizing hours three xanix, 85 questions(which is the minimum that LPNS can get) I found out that I had passed. My License number was there the next morning. Now here I am in a LPN to RN Progression program dreading the fact that I am going to have to go through that feeling again

Hey .... I attended TSPN. It is an ok school...it has it's ups and downs. Everyone in my class passed boards on the first try and with the least amount of questions possible. Sometimes you have to just grin and bear some of the things that go on around there! Good Luck!!

So According to the Ohio Board of NUrsing and Ohio Law... "Licensed nurse" means a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse who holds a current valid license to practice nursing in Ohio.... I am a Nurse and when I am at work as I am THE NURSE...I am the Only one who is there and responsible for my residents... BTW I am a LPN and Proud of it...I am also still in Nursing school...I am going to further my education and become a RN...even then I will be a nurse

I and just about all of my friends took and Passed the Nclex with 85 questions!!!

Well, I thought I would add my 2 cents here! I am a new grad LPN who just passed NCLEX 2 weeks ago. I just was offered a job at a facility for MR/DD adults, The starting pay is 17.54 an hour. I plan on going back into a bridge program in the fall. The reason I did this is I really wanted to be able to make a bit more money while going on to the Bridge program. Plus, my new job has tution assistance which is an added bonus for me!' So I personally went the LPN route first, you have to do what is right for you! either way Good Luck! BTW I am 26 years old

Wow, I was just thinking about starting a post like this. I have to give a speech at our Pinning a week from tonight and I have no Idea what to say! Any ideas would be greatly apprecieated

wow...I guess you never realize how good you have it till you look at what others have to put up with! On day shft we have 1 nurse and 4 aides for 25 residents ( and when you are doing AM care there are 8 aides for 25 people. 4 from day shift and four from nights) On second shift it is 1 nurse and 4 aides and the same on midnights i nurse and 4 aides

Well at the end of this month, I will graduate from The LPN program that I am in then, in January I am starting the Bridge program to move on to my ADN

They say that you have to be a CNA but if you are not there is a class you can take there before you actually begin the LPN Program. I have been a STNA for like 10 years so I didn't have to worry about that. If you live in Ohio the entire program is $9,000 If you live in Michigan I think it is $10,000. Hope this helps

I go to the TSPN. It is a OK school. I graduate in September.
