  1. The nutrition class I took didn't take a lot of effort to get an A. The lectures were interesting as was the book. Seriously, one of the easiest As to receive. Organic chemistry...you gotta work in that class!!! Nutrition with organic is very doable. You'll be thanking your lucky stars to have at least one easy class with a high demanding one.
  2. Check to see if your library has a McMinn's atlas. It has color photographs of cadavers with incredible, detailed dissection! You'll first see an overview of a section, then superficial dissection, then progresses deeper and deeper depending on the body part. I absolutely loved my class and McMinn's helped me greatly to achieve an A. Good luck! Many hugs!!
  3. Fluorochrome dyes will tend to illuminate your specimen under UV light under normal fluorecence microscopy. You can also add a fluorescent dye to an antibody that is specific for that microorganism & then detect the microorganism. If the antibody doesn't have an antigen to adhere to on the microorganism, it'll get washed away & you won't see a darn thing under the scope. You can use this technique to diagnose syphillis for example. However, this is immunofluorescence, a specific subset of the original. Not all certain how in-depth your professor wants to go. If you want more in-depth info, just let me know.
  4. They will NOT think you're nuts, and in fact, will be very pleased to know that their efforts made a difference in at least one student. People are often quick to critize, but usually forget to praise those that do well and challenge us to be the best that our abilities will allow. A thoughtful, handwritten thank you note never goes out of style.
  5. Very true! Canadian regulations are probably different than the US with regards to financial aid. I know they have aid of various types, just not the process.
  6. Those that already have a degree will not qualify for pell grants and other grants such as SEOG and the like, but they will still qualify for federal loans. There are, of course, other scholarships and non-federal grants that are based on the federal application for financial aid, so everyone should fill it out. I earned my degrees at a large, public university and they had plenty of aid for in-state students and select out-of-state ones. I can see, however, how smaller public schools could be behind in providing enough financial aid for those that need it. No idea about CC though.
  7. When I applied four years ago, my letter was thin from nursing school, very thick for med school and also for DO school. A few days later after receiving the nursing acceptance letter, they sent me a thick packet chuck full of info. So, I guess various schools are different in what they send out.
  8. A degree is never a waste!! I have a BS in genetics and a BA in chemistry. Some of my fellow pre-nursing classmates think I'm nuts and over-qualified for nursing with my science background. Rubbish I say! Psychology is something that every field can use and it will help differentiate you from the rest of the pack when you apply to nursing school.
  9. Wow Jenny! Hang in there! I'll say some prayers for Harrison's family and for you as well. No one should have to go through all that alone. I realize you have your hubby and your daughters, but talking to a neutral third party may help you sort out all the emotions that you're going through. Please keep in touch! :)
  10. What a fantastic thread! To the original poster regarding debinding books, THANK YOU!!! That's probably the best tip I've read in a long time. Wish I had known about that during my undergraduate years.
