  1. I am in need of some guidance.......After 4 years of being a LPN, I have decided to go for my RN degree. Going back into classroom is not an option! Need info. about the distance learning programs. I have heard good things about excelsior and understand that many of the other programs are just "branches" of excelsior. ??? I would really appreciate info. from people who have successfully completed programs, or from people who are currently enrolled. Thanks so much!!! ~~~BeWell~~
  2. Hi there!! I live in Missouri.
  3. My favorite former job was as the D.J. for the local nite club-it was so much fun!!
  4. I do not regret that I am a nurse. Sometimes I regret the situations my hospital or co-workers have put me in. Most of the time I try to make the best of these regretful situations, and remember that I have a job that I love and am proud to do.

I am a rehab nurse in Missouri. We too have been hit by the cuts-hard!! We have a 20 bed unit, and since May `06 average 4-5 patients. We have become the new float pool at my hospital. It is really sad for patients that could benefit from our services-but dont "qualify". We are also getting patients that shock us to be on a rehab floor. Scary times:uhoh3:
  6. Have faith in yourself. I remember how it was for me.......I was so nervous too!!! You will be in all of our thoughts-keep us posted!!!!! P.S. RELAX
  7. I have been working nights for 2 years. It has been less chaotic and night shifters (where I work) really get along and are helpful to eachother. Day & night shift are like 2 different worlds. As far as patients being less to handle during night, I disagree. Patients have trouble sleeping, some patients have to go to bathroom more often at night. You are still busy!! On my unit there is some "down" time, but that happens on day shift as well. You just have to figure out which shift works better for your life, and then make the best of it.
  8. I would be an elementary teacher-no weekends, no holidays-summers off!!!:chuckle
  9. i have been working 7p-7a for almost 2 1/2 years. there are perks to working nights. most of the time i dont get enough sleep though. i then try to make up for it on my first day-maybe even second day off. it has been difficult. i am a night owl-when i am doing my own thing. being a night owl and working is a little different. night workers must make sleep a priority and not feel guilty about it. turn ringers off phone, sign on front door (DAY SLEEPER-DO NOT DISTURB), let family/friends know your schedule and best times to call. :yelclap: i am now in the process of getting a day job-starting in 2 weeks!!!!!! no more 12 hour shifts either. wish me luck!!:)
  10. i have taken patients out for a smoke break. as of sept. 1, 2006 smoking is no longer allowed (not even in your car) by staff, patients, or visitors at the hospital where i work. this has been a HUGE adjustment period for many people. i think no smoking by staff is fine-for patients in hospital i'm not so sure. smoking is an addiction/habit/crutch-oftentimes it would be cruel not to allow someone to smoke (if able to leave room) while they are confined to hospital. plus, many times family members stay with patients, due to severity of situation, and they may need to smoke to cope with situation. it is a controversial issue.
  11. that is really odd-and of all nights for that to happen!! if it was a joke-NOT funny. do keep us posted if and when you get to the bottom of this.
  12. new balance are the most comfortable i have found. crocs hurt my feet.
  13. i like Ava, Scarlet, Amy-my daughters name is Izabella-which i love!! boys names-Gage, Stone, and Eric
