If you are not supported by your manager, I suggest using your chain of command. Have you addressed this with your director? But of course, have you spoken to your manager first?

Does petty theft that got expunged even count as a record? I thought that the questions specifically ask if you were CONVICTED (found guilty) of a felony. I'd ask your nursing board for a definite answer.

I'm currently enrolled in their executive track, and I completely misspoke in my last post. I competed my BSN with Chamberlain/Devry and the MSN/MBA track has been just as the same. No complaints. Classes are more managerial but ok to manage.

Norfolk/ VA Beach, Virginia.only 6hr drive from NYC This is a military area so nurses don't stay longer than a few years, creating a lot of vacancies. Which in return equals low pay ($20's/hr) but they're recruiting grads into ICU's. So you can get your experience and get out if you don't like it. The hospitals are nice, all private rooms, not like in N.Y. where you have 4 people in one room, so on top of being a nurse, you have to play the referee. Computerized charting, med scanning. Everyone is nicer too.

I agree with above, you've put up for this long might as well not lose the experience value you've been putting time into. I did home health for a few months after my hospital closed, and I HATED it. I realized that it wasn't for me and I wanted to be in acute care. What I hear about home health is that you either love it or hate it, which honestly applies to all nursing. I wanted to be in cardiac ICU every since nursing school, now that I'm in it, I still have all the same complaints. You won't know what you like/dislike until you've tried it.

Sounds like a "trendy" hair cut might not be all that professional. Tastefully style your hair for the interviews, get a new outfit to update your look, but I wait till after to cut it.

Thank you so much for your reply. We are so pleased with the incredibly low prices that I keep looking for a negative. I saw the schools are pretty low in the rating. And areas like trinity, new port Richey and wesley chapel have far better schools, but more expensive housing. Are private schools expensive? Regional bayonet is the closest hospital, do you know if they have a bad reputation? I'm ok with learning things with time, and I dint mind changing hospitals after a few years if I don't like them, I just don't want to move into a dangerous area.

I don't know where you are transferring from, but CA pays great money and san diego is a gorgeous place. My brother is a marine and lives there too. Experience is experience. Even though it might not be acute care experience, med surg experience is the bare minimum. New Grads get hired into med surg. It's not like you're applying into a specialty ICU. Get your CA license and apply. If anything might look bad, is the fact that you will have 3 jobs in under 1 year. But it all comes down to how you are in the interviews and how well you sell yourself. As a perspective, in NY, you won't get a job right now unless you know someone and in Virginia, you'll get hired into an ICU as a new grad. California is somewhere in the middle of those 2 extremes. Yes it's saturated with nurses, but you have a lot of hospitals. ( ny has a lot of nurses and no hospitals, VA has a lot of hospitals and no nurses). all you can do is apply and pray for the best. I'd move to san diego in a heart beat if it wasn't for a stubborn southern husband >

uhm, where do you work and are they hiring?! in my hospital a ncp/ care partner basically stocks supplies (to keep busy) and if i manage to find one i'll ask for help turning a pt. that's it. This is compared to a med -surg floor where a care partner is responsible for so many tasks: vitals, I&O's, baths, bedpans etc. And yet we can't seen to keep a position filled. *I have to clarify my post* Everything depends on you and the unit that you're on. On my current floor, the care partner has very few responsibilities outside of stocking supplies in our carts. None of them want to learn anything past that and no one is willing to teach them. THis is a very stressful unit on s many levels, and most care partners and nurses do not stay longer then they have to. I have worked other ICU's where a care partner knows so much about their unit that I can easily go to them if I need assistance with absolutely anything. This was a unit with a great manager and staff that wanted to be there. we currently have a care partner that is going through nursing school, and I don't know if she feels that she is to good for her job, but you will find her reading a magazine instead of helping out. Don't be that person.

Last similar topic was in 2008 so I wanted to start a newer, updated one as things have changed drastically in the last 6 years. We are looking to move around spring hill/ tampa area ( open to better suggestions). I'm familiar with tampa hospital pay rate ( 30/hr for 6 yr RN experience) and I've heard that Baptist is a great little hospital to work for ( my hospital in virginia paid them 1 million to come and give us pep talk on customer service last year. money that could have been put into more staff which would result in less stressed out staff, but that's another topic). we are looking for an area that is safe, good schools, cheap housing. Im from NYC originally but lived in VA for the last 3 years, so my pay is already pocket lint. We're just looking to be able to afford a home on said pocket change and florida seems to have the cheapest real estate. any input is welcomed.

There are no new grad jobs, you can most certainly not expect an ICU position. N.Y.nurses don't leave their positions. Starting salary is $40/hr +/-

I live in southern Virginia, which is much lower income from northern VA by Washington DC This is a position strictly for priceless ICU experience. When I called Tampa hospital I was told my base would be $30/hr, plus differential and certification

Wow, your health insurance is how much?! I pay $200+ per pay period for a family ( btw it's $157 for a single person) here in virginia, working for a medical giant that owns every doctor's office i visit, and I have to pay $40 copays. Which goes great with making $24/ hr as an experienced ICU nurse. I'm originally from Brooklyn , and we are looking to move to florida this summer.

OMG thank you so much for explaining that. I wrecked my brain trying to find out why there is a limitation on a bunch of states when the school ( say like chamberlain) is fully accredited and you meet all the requirements to sit for your licensure exam. I'm still baffled by Georgetown, which is in DC, cannot accept students from DC for online school.

Hey Debanam, may I ask how's your schooling going in this track? I'm looking to apply to start July session. I got my BSN from chamberlain last year so I know the school is good. If you finished already, how are you finding MBA and it's usefulness in the nursing world? I'm not sure what to use it for yet, but from what I've read it's a good backing to have as most nurses don't have one. Are you in management?

I was denied at a local school for FNP, so I will be applying for the FNP or the MSN/ MBA track today. I hear classes start May 5th. I did my BSN with them and I enjoyed the program.
