Try a different area, Med-Surg irritated me, I moved to the ER and love it. Try something like OB, it was the only semester that did not rack my nerves while in school. The patient's were generally well and easy to care for.

We have a break room: sink, refrigerator, tv, closet, and coffee maker. The only time I have sat in there for more than 10 minutes is for report or a staff meeting. I Generally eat lunch in there, standing up, and for less than 10 minutes. It should be noted that we are docked 30 minutes time for this, and another 30 minutes for 2 fifteen minute breaks. It would take me 60 hours of work to rack up 30 minutes of lunch breaks, and I have never taken a 15 minute break.

Don't sweat the small stuff. Amuse yourself by watching these whiners and complainers, and make a mental note to never let yourself become one of them. Go to school, do the work, make good grades and pass the boards. Let these idiots **** off the instructor, and use the extra time they coerce to your advantage.

Here's the deal, the schools with the low NCLEX passing percentages most likely have a large graduating class. In other words most who enter the program probably graduate. I attended a Technical School that had passing percentages well above 95%. The kicker here is, about 125 entered the program and only 39 graduated. I guess some schools have different philosophies.

I too have experienced the same problem. I spoke to my unit director, she offered a great solution, "tell them if they do not like your decision, to come see me!". It actually worked quite well, after hours I would give them her number and ask them to call if they did not like the assigment or the plethera of other complaints some nurses have about actually having to do some work.

What, your an EMT and you do not feel you have the experience needed to be an ERT. You could easily be trained on hospital protocols and ERT duties. It seems to me that you would be light years ahead of most nursing school applicants for that job.

Are you sure that there are no personality problems here, or any other reasons that your boss may not want you on his unit. If not, he is a real douchebag. And I would not volunteer any information on this subject to any prospective employer. If asked just be truthful, afterall you are the one who caught the error right.

If your scared, you will most likely be a great nurse. It's those that think they know everything that scare the bejesus out of me.

Personally I think all nurses should let those babies loose, and purchase their uniforms from Fredricks of Hollywood complete with 4 inch pumps. It would certainly make my 12 hour shift more rewarding.

I am a relatively new nurse, however I have over 20 years experience in business ownership in a health related field. You may sale me on the fact that many of our gen x'ers do not have the work ethic, pride and respect that our parents taught us. This is not a nursing school problem, it is a cultural dilemma. I have valued the knowledge and expertise of many of my seasoned colleagues, but I also have found many nurses with years of experience that were cynical, lazy, rude and poor role models for new nurses. I have also seen a few seasoned nurses on my unit passed up for promotion as younger less experienced nurses made head nurse and charge position's. I had to chuckle while over hearing them blame beauty and brown nosing for reasons of being overlooked and their unwillingness to see their own shortcomings.
