I keep hearing that most LPN go to LTC and no offense to anyone here but I really really don't want to work TLC. I chose the LPN route first simply because the RN schedule wouldn't accomodate my work schedule so I had to do what I had to do. I plan to bridge later however somebody please tell me I will have more options than TLC.

The 500 to 1 ratio isn't to far off base for the Indianapolis Ivy Tech ASN program. Getting in that program is all but impossible. It may not be as bad for the smaller cities but here their is an average of a two year wait list they are now telling students. My neighbor did all of her classes and got on the wait list and they finally called her and she was very pregnant and had to turn it down. Bummer but alot can happen in two years as far as babies, finances, husbands, relocations, and any thing else.

Just a question ! being a new student nurse and havent started clinicals yet Im wondering how exactly does it work when we go into snow emergency like we are getting ready to do in a few hours? I mean in my area we are expecting 12 to 15 inches of snow in the next 24 hours. If I was due to come in would they still expect me in a foot of snow.? Does night shift have to stay until we get there? Do they call people that live closer in? If we get the snow, sleet , and ice they say we are getting who can even get to the hospials? Whats the norm in the hospitals for weather related emergencies? Just wondering

I have heard the same thing which is unfortunate because I am in my 7th week of LPN school. I also heard that most LPN will more than likely go to work in LTC which I have no desire what so ever to work. If that becomes the case in the future I think I would rather take a pay cut and get medical assistant pay than do LTC . Or maybe just leave the floors to teach or do desk work. This is just my 2 cents. What would everyone else do if push came to shove?

All the nursing homes always need CNA so it shouldn't take long to get a job. The only thing that may hold you up some is the fact that you dont have any experience. In the mean time go online and put in some applications and upload your resume to some companies. Try monster.com, employmentguide.com, and careerbuilder.com Good Luck!!!

Im sorry to hear about your first test. You have just given me some food for thought. I like you am a doing just enough to get over( student nurse). This makes me very nervous. I may think about stepping it up a notch. I am ashamed to admit that I possess the power to be a dean lists student but I have a tendency to have ass sometimes and be lazy when I can. Does anyone know what percentage of student nurses fail their NCLEX-PN on the first try? So if you go thru the whole program and you dont pass then what? Do you go get your CNA or med assistant and hope you do better? Are you somehow able to challenge the medical assistant test if you dont pass? Scary to have $20,000 and 15 months riding on one test. Wow you guys got off pretty cheap things are alot different in Indiana. It goes like this. (there are only 3 place LPN schools in Indianapolis so you have to pick one) Community college with wait list and a bunch of BS before you get in $5000 not including uniforms or books LPN school/technical center (not really hard to get into or a long wait list) $9000 including uniforms not books Private college (just started offering LPN in Sept/06) No wait at all first one to pass the test in and pay you're in (you could very well start 3 or 4 weeks after you attend an info session) $18,500 yes that is what I said $18,500 Alot of people are willing to pay that $18,500 after having the community college experience ( it's really bad) and the technical center is convenient for everyone

Hello I am six weeks into LPN school and when ever people see me in uniform and ask what I do, they tell me hospitals are going to start phasing LPNs out. These are people in healthcare that tell me this? If this happens would be be grandfathered in or would we be forced to all go to LTCs? Would the company pay for us to get our RN? Would all LPNs even want to be an RN? What do you guys think? Have you seen heard the same things?

Hello I started LPN program about a month ago but our instructors are already talking about clinicals/externship. I thought that this was done strictly for experience but one of my classmates thought we got paid (a lot less but something) by the hospital while on externship. Someone else thought that only RN nursing students get paid. We are all confused can one of you shed some light on the situation please?

I ended up at Medtech College (Indianapolis) in their practical nursing program. Not one of my brightest choices but I got right in. I attended the info session in October, took the PSB in November, and went to orientation in December and started on Janurary 2. No pre-ques or wait list. I believe this is what is truly attracted me the most. If I could do it all over again I would try to stick it out at Ivy Tech. Yeah the program is only 15 months but it cost around $18,000. At that point and time I was so frustrated with Ivy Tech I would have paid 1.4 million to be in someone's anyone's nursing program. If you have the money to spare and dont to spare yourself an hours worth of travel then medtech is OK. Not really great not really bad but good enough. Get in Get out Get Paid.

Honey let me tell you. I was at Ivy Tech for a while and it's enough to make you jump off the roof. They take 80 people in the fall and 80 in the spring. About 1500 apply for each spot. Before you even apply you have to have perfect scores in your pre-reqs and very good scores on your TEAS. Even with perfect scores with those numbers you stll may not get in simply because of space. Then you go on a waiting list for 1-3 years. If you have the time and the patience then it's a really good school if you dont mind waiting. If you can stick it out I suggest doing so cause you cant beat the cost of the program. I couldn't wait, so I had to go elsewhere because I needed the money.

Hi everyone I am currently a full time LPN student but am looking towards working as a part time CNA to pay bills while in school. I really need either a weekend or evening CNA prep class. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

I am currently in school to be a LPN and you guys are scaring me. I dont graduate until March of 08 but I am already scared of the N-Clex. What type of material does it cover. Is it like the PSB or it does it only cover nursing situations. What is the pass/fail percentage for the test? Any insight would be helpful.

I was 22 when I started LPN school will be 23 when I graduate. I plan to have my BSN before I am before I turn 28.

The PSB is the test you have to take and pass with a certain core score before you can be accepted into any LPN program. It is done on the computer and takes about between 2 and 3 hours. It covers sections on math, spelling, science, nursing judgement, and critical thinking. At my school it has about a 30-35% pass rate. They also have a website if you were interested. Just google "psbtest" and you should find it.

Hello Everyone I start the LPN program in January at Medtech College (Indianapolis)and one of things the director told me didn't quite sit right with me. She said she had receieved an email from the lady who does career placement , earlier that day and LPNs fresh out of school were making between 19.00 and 22.00 dollars an hour. I am not in the field(yet) but from what I read a couple of post down that sounds a little high for a new grad. I was thinking of making between $15-$17 after I graduate. Who is closer to the ball me or the school? LPNs please let me know what you think!!!

I took my PSB test on Wednesday night and I was sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that I had flunked it. The instructor told us that only 30% of people taking itwill pass. Leaving that night I felt as thought I had flunked it based on the amout of answers I guessed because I had no idea what the correct answer was. To my to surprise I found I today that I had passed. 15 people took the test and 4 passed (including myself). So my question is since the PSB is the same all the way across the board I was wondering if my PSB scores would transfer to another school. I took the test at Medtech but Im not positive I can afford to go to school at Medtech even with the help of financial aid. They have a spot for me to start in January in the LPN class( they only have 4 people in the January program so far) but that is alot of money, but If I start in Jan/07 I will graduate in 3/08. I hate to pass up a opportunity people at Ivy Tech would kill far but I dont know. Does does anyone know if schools accept transfer PSB scores or do you have to take it through them?

Hi Everyone I was wondering if any has taken the PSB and the TEAS test both. I was wondering if there is a difference in the diffuculty of the test. I took my PSB last night and based on the way I felt when I took it I am not expecting good results. The PSB focused alot more on analogies and comparisons than it did nursing judgement. The science section was really hard. The only part I felt truly comfortable with my scores were the spelling and nursing judgement calls. I am not really looking to pass it this time but well see. Does anyone have any insight on the TEAS test?

does anyone know any lpn programs that are easier to get into, or one with less applicants? i tried to get into the indianapolis-lawrence program but that all situation was stressful so i just started looking for alternate schools. i heard that the ivy tech anderson campus is easier to get into for their rn program. has anyone else heard that or has anyone been through the program and can confirm this? i live in indianapolis but i will frive for a nursing program.

Is this a program for LPN transition or to BSN or is it open to anybody who has taken the pre-reqs?

Im sorry I may have worded my post all wrong I was rushing because I had to go to work. All I was saying was I am 22 now and I dont have any kids and I would like to go ahead and knock school out in the next 2 years before my life gets complicated with husbands, babies, diapers, no study time, etc so I want to on the quick path to success. With my experience at Ivy Tech quick is not something you can accomplish there, and I was saying I would rather spend the extra money and be done with school than wait it out and save the money. I do agree with you about if you want something bad enough you will wait as long as you need to. That is the truth!!! But at the same time I dont wont to be graduating from Ivy Tech when Im 27 or 28 vs. 23 or 24

You are intitled to your application fee back since you didn't get in!!! Or at least that is the way it was explained to me when I set up my visit with the school. Everyone was really nice in beginning but Im starting to see some differences now that I am officially a student here. I guess they are still nice enough but there is a difference between now and when they are trying to promote you to go to school here.Did you ever get you app fee back?
