  1. I cannot say that I love my job. Actually some nights I wonder what did I get my self into. But I have to remember the grass is not always greener on the other side. A lot of people I know are on unemployed, due to the economy. The pay is excellent for a 2 year degree. 12 hour shifts works for me. Im only required to work 10 days out the month with full benefits. I can work all the overtime my heart desires. Im helping people in a time of need. I worked very hard to get to were I am today. And as much as I hate my job some nights I can't imagine doing anything else.
  2. A typical night for me would be getting report from the day nurse at 6:30pm, I work 12 hour shifts. After I get report I go and assess my patients and take there vitals we have a aide to help with repositioning toyal patients. I usually start my med pass at 8pm. On a good night I usually finish my med pass at around 10pm. After that I would do some charting, help out other nurses, answer lights. At midnight I check on my patients get vitals. At1 am the cafeteria opens, so we each take turns going down to get lunch . I usually do med checks around 2am that takes a good 45 minutes to an hour for me. I do more charting. Around 4am me and the aide empty the garbages, I get my 4am vitals, change and reposition pts. Around 5am the lab comes up,I do line draws at this time. I work on the renal unit and some patients go to dyalysis at 6:45, so there washed and given there breakfast befor they leave. Also I help the aids weigh patients around 5;30 and if there's any meds to be given, there given at this time. I give report to the day nurses at 6:30. But ofcourse every night is different sometimes I hardly sit down. I do my own orders at night also we also do pertineal dialysis on my floor that's usually 3 exchanges at 9pm,1pm and 5pm. And sometimes there's admissions, most admission at my facility come at night. But this basically what a typical night is like for me. I hope this helps.
  3. I would take a set of vitals, and if the patient indeed expired, notify the charge nurse, the patients physician, the hospital supervisor as well as the patients family. The organ donation facility would have to be notified to see if the patient is a candidate for organ donation .The body would have to be cleansed tagged and wrapped, atleast at my facility. You didn't provide much details, just the fact that the patient expired and she was a full code.
  4. I think you really need to talk to someone who has authority about this. Because there's more involved than just taking vitals being a nurse. Your not going to be prepared at all at this pace.
  5. ;)My prayers are with you. Im sure you will do just fine.
  6. At my job in a hospital med surge floor, I am what's called a .8 part-time with benefits. That's only 5 days in a 2 week pay period.
  7. I just started working the night shift my self. The first night was a killer had to constantly drink coffee to stay awake. But once my body adjusted I'm just fine. What I do, do is the night before I work I stay up as long as I can so I can sleep late and be ready for my night shift. May tea could help I believe tea has more caffeine then coffee.
  8. What does OP mean?
  9. I graduated on May 26, I used Lippincott, Mosbys, Saunders and Star exam a day, I also used Mosby's cat exam which predicts your chances of passing the exam. I had a probability of 92% the first time, 99% the second time. I tested on August 23rd and passed with 75 questions. Good luck to you.
  10. I was told to do around 5000 questions. I did around 3000 and passed on the first try. It's up to each individual. I would judge on how many questions to answer on how I was doing on the practice test. Best of luck.
  11. Hello all. I am more of a lurker. This is my first post. I have a problem that am I hoping that someone can give me some insight on. Ok I took my R.N. boards on August 23rd. Found out in 48 hours that I passed with pearson quick results. So I figure in about a week I would have my name and license posted on the BON. My name was not on the BON, so I called and spoke to a woman who comfirmed that I had passed, but a liscense had not been issued due to me not putting down on my application to test what high school I attended. She proceeded to say, "we have already sent out a education packet". I told her I have not recieved any thing. So she said she would send out another. She said that everything should take about a week. So I wait and I recieve nothing in the mail. I call again and I speak to 3 different people who say they have sent out the info and I should have recieved it. Now at this point I am upset, I get all of my other mail. There in Albany im in upstate NY, mail should take about a day to reach me. But they swear they have sent the education info to me. So I asked to speak to a supervisor, they take my # and say she will call me. I recieved no call. So im thinking im going to have to drive to Albany to fix this. I call again asking if maybe they can fax the paper work and they did. So I filled out the required info, had it notarized, and sent it by certified mail, this was yesterday. I checked on line to see if the mail was signed for and it was. So I talked to somone in the nursing dept today. They had not recieved my letter even though it had been signed for, saying that it must have reached the mail room, and to call back tomorrow. So if this does not work I do not know what to do. I can not work without my license I do not think. Has anyone forgot to put information on there application to test and had there license held up? You would think that they wouldn't let you test if there is information missing from your application. Can someone advise me on what to do if im told they did not recieve my letter.
