Target of clinical instructor's venom HELP!!!
I recently started my clinicals and got off to a rough start. I have since got a handle on the routine at our clinical site and i am enjoying the experience except for one thing. I have been the only target of the instructors snide remarks and put downs. I really want to tell her to get over herself. I have really worked hard to be where i am now and dont want to blow it by not handling the situation correctly. Has anyone experienced an instructor belittling them and putting them down? Please let me how you handled it without getting kicked out of nursing school. I have six more weeks with her, i could just grin and bear it. Some of the other students at the site with me dont like her (she lies, she hovers over them the whole day at the site etc. etc etc.). any suggestions about how we can "handle" her will be greatly appreciated.

Kishwaukee College Anyone???
we have had people dropping out. I know of one person who decided that nursing was not for them and another one who gave up after doing badly on the 1st set of exams. The thing is, you can never ever give up, you have to keep going until the last day. The 1st semester is no joke but all you have to do is get a "C" to get into the 2nd semester, then you can focus on doing better and getting A's and B's but you cannot give up just because you had one horrible exam. i know of someone who is going to have to take some of the classess again which is ok because some people take a while to get into the rhythm and the change of pace and studying of nursing school at the end of the day we all write the same NCLEX exam and no one really cares about your grades when you get out into the real world and start working, i think they are just happy that you made it, you crossed the finished line :mortarboard: Our uniforms are really cool, black pants and red scrub tops with our badges on the left sleeve, i have to say so myself we do look GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!! Does kish still have the green scrub tops and black pants?

Kishwaukee College Anyone???
congraculations!!!! i am at NIU but just wanted to wish you the best of luck. My advice is to study really hard especially for your first set of exams, know your work, be open to input from your instructors and your classmates. It will get rough at times but dont give up, you are in an incredible program and 'am sure you will make a great nurse.

NIU Nursing Students
thanks jov you have been very helpful. I was wondering about how you deal with rude instructors and whether you have ever had to confront an instuctor about the way she talked to you? or is respect etc a thing of the past in nursing school? i have heard horror stories about instructors humiliating students, have you had or seen such behaviour by instructors at NIU and how was it handled?

NIU Nursing Students
Jo thank you for answering my questions. My clinicals are at kindered hospital, i dont know who my instructor is, i did call the SON to find out but they too didnt know who it would be at the time i called, so i am just going to wait and see. my next question is: do you have a study group and if you do how did you go about deciding who would be in the group? thanks

Orientation: What was your experience?
we had a tour of the school of nursing, we went through the clinical requirements, and rules of the school, we ended the orientation with a representative from the student nurses association giving advice about how to succed(sp?) in nursing school. everyone was so tense, i think they were all just nervous about starting nursing school. my orientation was pretty uneventful.

New CNA - any advice?
congraculations on your new job 1. wear gloves whenever you are going to get in contact with bodily fluids 2. be a team player, help your fellow aides if you have finished working on your people (they will really appreicate it) 3. dont be afraid to ask for help if you have a problem lifting a resident, you dont want to mess up your back!!! 4. dont take office politics personally and try not to become part of it. Just do your job and go home 5. learn from everyone, you will see your coworkers do things differently, learn from them especially if it makes your job easier All the best on your new job, do let us know how it is going....

how many patients do you have
i work the 6am - 2pm shift and sometimes the 3pm-11pm shift, usually i get to work with 8-10 residents. It does get really crazy especially in the morning when everyone wants to get up and get dressed at the same time. If i am really busy i usually ask for help from one of the aides on the floor especially when it comes to lifting people. I am not messing up my back!!!

Getting ORganized?
like hlfpnt, i too file my notes according to the date, with the my most recent notes at the top and the previous days at the bottom, i found that this really helped me stay organised I also have a 3" file for each of my classes and keep all my class notes, note cards and any other information under the appropriate file divider. File divikders help keep me so organised, i can find whatever i need asap. I aslo keep a printout of the month with all the assignment due dates and test dates highlighted so i can get a quick glance at what i need to be working on even if its only due during the last week of the month.
