Here's how I study... 1. Actively listen in class 2. Read my ATI book http://www.atitesting.com/onlinestore/default.aspx ATI has been the best investment ever. It cuts out all the fluff and just gives you what you need to know.
  4. I went to the library and checked out 3 different study guides and answered every question in each of them. I took about a month to study before taking the exam. Although I did skip trying to learn vocabulary words. I studied mostly science... the math was sooooo easy on the test.
  5. whats the difference between a RN and a LPN? about $15/hr
  6. I dropped out of "med surg 1" becaues I was borderline and retook it later... nothing to feel discouraged about... sometimes it just takes longer to absorb the information you are presented.
  7. wow, can't believe your doing ob without having learned any skills yet. Newborn Nursery was fun.
  8. um... nursing is enough to drive anyone insane
  9. Its your option to interact with this person you know.
  10. "That which causes us trials shall yield us triumph: and that which make our hearts ache shall fill us with gladness. The only true happiness is to learn, to advance, and to improve: which could not happen unless we had commence with error, ignorance, and imperfection. We must pass through the darkness, to reach the light."
  11. Lots of nurses smoke, its a hard habbit to kick. Just remember although the struggle gets easier with time the cravings will never completely dissapear making this a lifelong daily struggle. I think cessation is more successful when you gradually reduce the intake, maybe wait a little longer each day before having that first cigarette of the day. There is lots of literature and programs to help you quit smoking. As far as setting an example you could explain how addiction works, how smoking negatively impacts the body, and give a personal testament on how difficult it is to quit, the emotions you go through etc... Just maybe you'll convince someone whom is tempted to try smoking realize what lies ahead. You can use your struggle with addiction to help others and be a positive influence in their life, no rational thinking person will expect battling an addiction to be any easier because your a nurse. The important thing is you recognize a problem and have a desire to change.
  12. Do any of you guys use this book for school? and if so did you buy the additional comprehensive study guide that compliments it? and if so would anyone be interested in helping compile the answers to the questions in each chapter and posting them online for everyone that needs them? I have some chapters completed that I can post online if enough people are interested in helping.

    What does the x4 mean?
  14. Some people have the worst personalities. Maybe they are trying to encourage you to participate more or maybe they really are bullies. Regardless, nursing requires us to step out of our comfort zone and to become the leader. The one who takes risks and makes choices confidently. Just remember your not there to make friends... your there to learn. If you need to work on anxiety related to poor self concept then do so but do it because you want to be the best nurse you can be and not to please your classmates. As for the original question, I have not experienced bullying and tend not to engage in discussions related to things other than the current nursing subject being discussed.
  15. I'm no longer waiting... got accepted and will begin march 7th... not to spend all this money to prove I'm not a criminal.
  16. No one has asked me anything but I sure have shared new information I have learned from A&P with friends... whether they wanted to know it or not.
  17. Did you try searching for "starvation" "blood plasma" ? Tons of stuff came up when I searched. Here's a link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22blood+plasma%22+%22starvation%22&btnG=Google+Search
  18. To add to the list: Emotion Stability ( ability to cope in stressfull situations ) Physical Endurance Social Skills Manual Dexterity Leadership Problem-Solving Skills Effective Clear Communication Organization and Time Management -info taken from Careers in Nursing Terence J. Sacks McGraw-Hill 2003 pgs. 46-48 Stupid english class making me feel bad for taking something from a book without acknowledging the source.
  19. I've seen some Accelerated BSN programs that take only 12 months to complete. If I had a BA already that's what I'd do... the sooner I can get out the better.
  20. I agree I dont think the NLN guide alone is close to being sufficient enough for the science section but the other guides put out by kaplan and others cover the science section very well although they go a bit overboard on the math section. Thank god I had a plus going into the test I have already graduated with a degree in electronics. The only chemistry and Physics I had ever had was what I learned from the study guides which was plenty sufficent in my opinion. Im soo behind on chemistry its not funny I think I'll try and take some classes next summer when we dont have nursing classes. Well, if you have to take it again at least you'll know what to expect next time.
  21. http://www.unc.edu/~bangel/quiz/quiz5.htm more quizes but you can click help and it explains the calculation formulas.
  22. For an entertaining look at whats to come read: Huttman, Barbara. Code Blue: A Nurse's True Life Story I loved this book!
  23. I'm gonna take the prep course especially since the new format change for 07.
  24. I dont think you have anything to worry about. Hows your NLN score / ACT score?
  25. I just try and live in the present moment and avoid thinking too much about what has to be done later I have less headaches this way. I FOCUS on what has to be done RIGHT NOW and I DO IT letting everything else leave my mind and give what I'm doing 100%. I organize as things happen. My general rule of thumb is to organize by: 1) Time Constrant and then by 2) What I want to do least. Because I have found that 1) you can run out of time before accomplishing tasks that need to be done before a certain time and 2) the things you want to do least are more than likely the things that NEED to be done first. Dont get me wrong I try and do everything I want to do. For instance if my show comes on tv and it comes on in 5 minutes I go watch it because it falls under 1) Time Constraints but if the show doesn't come on for an hour and I have homework to do and need to feed the dogs I'd prioritize by 1) feeding the dogs
