Ready to be an Entrepreneur
Ok thanks! I know quite a few pediatricians from home health, so maybe I'll start there. I'm hoping some nurses in this business will chime in as well.

Ready to be an Entrepreneur
Thanks. I have narrowed down my ideas and have decided I'm going to do independent pediatric case management. I'm still doing lots of research. I think there is a great need for complex case/care management for pediatics in my community, especially for those patients who aren't receiving home health. I haven't heard of many nurses going in this area of entrepreneurship, are there any out there?

Ready to be an Entrepreneur
Wow I'm pretty disappointed that there's been 23 views of this thread but no responses. Does anyone know of any other nursing forums that are more active?

Ready to be an Entrepreneur
Hello all! I've decided I want to start my own business and have been browsing this board for quite some time now. My background is in NICU and pediatric home health. Currently I'm a case manager for a major insurance company. I want my business to incorporate case management and my background of nursing. I'm thinking that would be considered a nurse consultant but I'm not sure. What are the functions of a nurse consultant? And what are some ideas for a business that incoporates NICU and peds home health? I also have an interest in the HIV/AIDS population in my area considering the number of people living with the disease in my community. Any help from the entrepreneurs on this board is greatly appreciated. TIA!!

Pre-Nursing Student
Sorry I'm not in Miaimi, I'm in Orlando. The University of Central Florida has an accelerated nursing program for people holding a non-nursing Bachelor's degree. I'm sure if you check out the University of Miami or Barry University they have the same programs. I'm pretty sure Barry does. Hope this helps.

McKesson Job Opportunity
Hi Erin. I really appreciate your honesty. I'm working with an agency, and haven't even had an interview yet. According to the agency, they still work with medicaid/medicare patients and are sizing out the number of patients and regions they are located in. After the agency told me that I got a little nervous and thinking it was going to be a huge number of patients. When I do get my interview I'll be sure to find out about those things you have mentioned. At this time I'm going to start sending my resume out to some workers comp companies. I'm not working right now and would love to work from home if possible. Thanks for the home office info, I just wanted to be sure there wasn't anything else I needed.

McKesson Job Opportunity
Hello All! I've been working with an agency that found me Community Based Disease Management position with McKesson. I'm going to do my own research on the company, but, was wondering if anyone has heard anything about them. Also, the job is a work from home type deal, which, I've never done. Does anyone have any suggestions in order to keep my home office HIPPA compliant? Or methods you have used to stay in compliance? Thanks in advance. I would really appreciate any info.

Does your Nicu allow holding with UAC
When I was a NICU nurse I never let a parent hold with a UAC in place. Instead I would let them do other things that got them involved in the care of their baby. This was a very common practice for most nurses on the unit.

Preceptorships in the NICU in Miami
I'm not in Miami, but, I may be able to help. Why dont you try contacting the NICU's of hospitals in the Miami area and find out who the nurse managers of those units are. Then contact that person directly and see if they offer internships/preceptorships. I worked in an NICU in Orlando right out of nursing school so the rumor that experience is needed to get into NICU is simply just a rumor. However, you will have a long orientation. HTH!

485's Home Health Plan of Care
Dear Lamazeteacher: To inform you, I know the process and the purpose of the POT and when it's supposed to be completed. I've been in case management for a home health agency for a while now. I'm now working for a brand spanking new agency, who does not have anything here; therefore, I'm starting from scratch. This in turn means, I must either create or purchase all the forms, policies and procedures, etc. for this agency to be able to function legally. Because I am used to using the CMS form-485, of course I was then searching for computerized access to it. Also want to add that there's no need for this type of attitude towards fellow nurses. If you had read my profile you would see that I do have home health experience in case management. Now I have followed my career path into director of nursing. Thanks to everyone else on the forum who has been helpful!

Florida Roll Call ......
I'm a FL native (Orlando). I've been an RN for 4 years. Graduated from VCC and UCF. Majority of my experience is in NICU. For about a year now I've been in home health. I started in the case management area of home health and currently a Director of Nursing of a new home health agency in the Orlando area. I'm planning on returning school for my MSN in Leadership and Management maybe next year.

Valencia CC Graduates or Current students?
Hello, I graduated from VCC back in 2002, but I'm sure things haven't drastically changed since then. You should get a mail notification of the date and time of orientation, which if I remember correctly was a couple of hours. All of your above questions about uniforms, clinicals, class time will be answered in orientation. You will not be having clinicals your first semester of nursing school, but, you will need to purchase your uniform during the first semester. They will give you the type of uniform you must have, which can be purchased from Uniform City right in Orlando, where most nurses buy thier scrubs. Also during orientation you'll find out what books and lab supplies will need to be purchased for the program. I remember buying a duffle bag of lab skills supplies which lasted throughout the entire program. There's a lot of things that you are not going to be able to find out until going to orientation. It's out of your control...so just relax...and they will give you plenty of time get familiar with everything you will need to know. Also anothter thing to remember is that you're in nursing school now....it's a little different than just being a college student. They make their own schedules which sometimes start on the first day of classes or whenever they plan it too! Hope all goes well with your first semester of nursing....it will be an adjustment! If you need anything feel free to p.m. me!

485's Home Health Plan of Care
Thank you so much NRSKarenRN. You have helped me tremendously(in both of my posts). My owner has allowed me to purchase either the PDN POT or the HHA plan of care. I chose the HHA plan of care in hopes to get a hold of the cms form 485. I will now just create my own plan of treatment for skilled nursing and format it similar to the cms form 485. I'm also going to check out cahabagba.com. Now lets see who knows how to use excel...hmmm...lol. Thanks again!!

Home Health Orientation

Home Health Orientation
Hello everyone. I am not a nurse educator, but could really use some help from some. I am the director of nursing for a new home health agency. Because of budget issues, I'll be the nurse in charge of providing orientation to all applicants when hired. I'm now trying to develop an agenda of some sort for the orientation and need some help with including as much information for the candidates as possible. I'll be providing orientation to RNs, LPNs, and CNAs/HHAs. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

485's Home Health Plan of Care
Ok I think I've been all over the cms website and others trying to get a download of some sort of the form 485; however, I've been quite unsuccessful. I did come across a page on the website that stated that the 485 has been deleted and is an optional form. Well I know these forms are still being used because I used it at my old agency. Does anyone out there that knows of any other way I can get the 485 form? Otherwise I guess I'll just order some care plans from healthcare concepts or Briggs. Thanks in advance!

485's Home Health Plan of Care
Hello everyone. I'm working as a DON for a new home health agency. What was I thinking.....this really is a lot of work; however, I enjoy learning. I was wondering if anyone can guide me in the right direction to obtain a computerized template form 485 for our PDN patients. Also I want to clarify to make sure I'm on the right track. The form 485 is it just for PDN? And I need to have a separate plan of care for home health aide only patients? Any assisstance with this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Do you get paid for twins?
Hi I'm in FL also. For twins, Medicaid reimburses for one and a half. At the pediatric home health agency I worked for here as a case manager, the field nurses were paid in the same manner. You may want to check into this situation a little deeper, i.e. the agency's policy regarding pay rates for twins. They may have a policy that states that the nurse only gets paid for one. But they aren't telling the truth regarding what Medicaid reimburses them. HTH!
