Anyone know anything else about this? I emailed them for more info. Very exciting! I had my CNA but it expired.

When I worked as a tech, there was a *definite* difference in the nurses/techs between shifts. days-The popular ones, lol. They always were really nice, but did have cliques. evenings-Very laid back nights-We were more of the outcasts, lol. A little stranger, but in a good way. Not as many cliques, but a lot more gossip, it seemed.

I always wanted to go to med school. However, the reality is that doctors really don't have it better than nurses or NPs. I wanted more autonomy and the prestige. But the view of doctors is changing to a lot of people, and pharma and HMOs are in charge anymore, it seems like the doctors less. Add in the cost and inconvenience of med school while having little kids and calculus, and nursing looks better and better. The hours are better, you get more patient interaction...it just depends on what you're in for.

I agree. My ex-MIL had MVP and fibromyalgia. She is in real, true, pain constantly. I have worked with the patients after the pain meds or the hypochondriacs. But I would hate to turn into someone who feels no sympathy and rolls my eyes at people regardless of presentation and situation because of a diagnosis. I have a *long* list of medical history problems. Crazy stuff. I feel incredibly judged when I have to list it off for new docs/nurses because you know that a lot of them are just going "yeah, right!". It is sad that now I suppose even healthcare professionals are so cold about people's ailments. Fibromyalgia is REAL. People suffer. Just because some people will lie or make something up for drugs does not make the suffering of people with Fibromyalgia any less real. That can go for a lot of other issues, too. What a shame!

Interesting. So I am assuming they didn't tell the parents the risk/parents didn't care? Or is it a "My wife has more follicles than your wife" manly thing?

I resent "dumb little hands". Though I do not think that meds should be the responsibility of CNAs. CNAs often have huge patient loads and tons of other responsibilities thrown on them. It is a huge risk to give more jobs, especially one so scary as medications. I always thought I had it good at $8 an hour for being a CNA. Then I learned in the area we just moved from (SAHM now until I finish my RN) that they made $16 an hour!!!! That speech sounds totally misleading.

I used to work in ART and I totally agree with you. That is a *huge* risk. I can't believe they went through with it. I know the NPs and Docs I worked with highly pushed to have at the very most 3 implanted for IVF and would never have gone through with IUI at that number!!!

Lakeview College of Nursing at EIU ALWAYS has openings and they are not strict about when you apply. So long as you apply before the first day of class. It is in Charleston, but main branch is in Danville. I wish I still lived that way. Great program.

I agree. It really pays to get your feet wet in an actual hospital. You get to see so many different facets of the different areas.

It depends on the area, I suppose. I always see ads for ultrasound techs. They get paid *very* well, too. Much higher than starting salary for RNs at my last hospital. I know several who were nurses and then got certified in US to make more money and have more flexible hours. Not to mention that many fields of US (except if you are on call for ER, of course) are much slower paced and laid back.

I loved Carle. Note, it has been about 3 years since I was there last. But the workers by and large loved the hospital and they have great benefits. Things might have changed, but all in all, I believe it's a great place to work.

Sorry, I am not on here much! That's great that they are lessening the RN load. But what about for the techs? I know that things have changed a lot on the floor I worked on right after I left, but haven't been back to ask many questions. You can't really come away from a job feeling really good when the administration is thoroughly hated by everyone and you have 15+ patients at a time, many hospice and full care. Especially when you do everything but meds. I believe at least the phlebotomy is now done by the lab, right? That surely would be a big relief for many overworked staff members. I only ever had trouble with one doctor, but that was the nurse's job, not mine, and it was nothing big. There are certainly some doctors (anywhere, for that matter) that I would never let take care of me, but the biggest problem was the administration. There were some great admin. nurses, and some whose sole purpose in life seemed to be to make our work a nightmare. And when the entire community jokes that you can't expect to come back from the Bush in one piece, then you know something is wrong with it...

Thanks, everyone! It looks like we are moving to Rockford. Dh accepted the job there. The tuition is really high for all but RVC, so I am going to try to get in there for 2008 if I don't find any night/weekend ones nearby.

Thanks! Yes, I have heard a lot of horror stories about the schools there. We are homeschooling now, and I was thinking about just getting my oldest into daycare with the youngest when I am in school and homeschooling her at night.

Hi! I will be moving to Rockford this summer. I didn't know St.Anthony's had an RN program. Is it diploma/ASN/BSN?

Hello! My dh just accepted a job offer in Rockford, IL. I have 100 credit hours from moving so much, and only need micro as a pre-req for any nursing program. I wanted to finish my BSN (I am not an RN) since I am equally close as with my ASN and I was thinking about becoming a NP someday. But I have heard some good things about Rock Valley College's program. I need something that goes few days a week or offers night/weekend courses. I have 3 kids and dh is a professor, so I can not afford all day daycare M-F! Does anyone have any good recommendations for nearby nursing schools or any reviews of the local hospitals for me to look into? I was thinking about working back as a CNA until I could start (hopefully!) a nursing program in 2008. TIA!

Mine are a thousand times different now after having three kids. I am the same weight as pre-baby (120), and having bf three kids, I am proud of them. And when I see a baby latching on with a voracious appetite, I know there was a job well done and Mother Nature did a fine job. I am very surprised that people would be disgusted or laugh at all of this.

Hey everyone! We have been moving a lot and I really need to finish up my degree! I have all of my nursing pre-reqs minus Micro done. I also have 3 kids and my dh's work and childcare issues (esp. with dd's severe allergies) are making it hard to find a school where I can go for night or weekend classes, or do more classes in the summer (dh is a professor). Right now, we are ready to move again and we are waiting to hear back from jobs for him in Belleville IL (near St.Louis), Rockford IL, and Knoxville TN. There are also jobs in Nashville and Joliet IL he is thinking about. Does *anyone* know of any nursing (AS, BS, Accelerated) programs where you can take your classes at night or on the weekend? I knew one back in IL but it is too far to travel to from these places! I have 100 credits done from moving so much and always having new requirements, so I guess I could finish up a Liberal Arts degree or something if there were a program for Accelerated BSN if anyone knows of one. I would really appreciate it! TIA!

I had a friend who graduated from SIU-C and only had to do an internship to be certified for ultrasound, I believe, before she graduated. You just have to ask them, or look further into the website. That was about 3 years ago. At parkland, it is radiology, but I believe that if you ask them, they may have an internship or something similar to get you certified once you are a radiology tech. I know there is another one in between the two in IL, I just can't think of the name right now.

Hi. My dh has decided to look for some jobs back by home. I was going to start nursing school this year, but now we are moving back across the country. Does anyone know if there are any night/weekend/more flexible nursing programs (RN, BSN preferred). I do not already have my RN, so that makes it a bit more difficult. Not in a huge city. Thanks! I just used Bank of America online and got a loan approved. Thank goodness! That should at least cover the tuition that my financial aid doesn't cover for being out of state! I never even thought about it!

Oh yeah, are there any hugely annoying things in Maine in general or Presque Isle that I should know about? I know that if someone would have told me that you can't walk outside here in NC without being attacked by fire ants, I never would have come.
