  1. Thank you! The guidelines are: Reasons for pursuing your graduate degree Personal background Academic background Work experience Future plans So, I guess it would be pertinent now, after typing those out I can see it!
  2. I am trying to write my personal statement for acceptance into NP school. My question is do I include my prior 13 years of experience in physical therapy that ultimately led me into nursing? I am really stumped on what to write! Thank you all in advance!
  3. Thank you so much for the information! I also thought it would be beneficial to purchase an NCLEX book for more study tips.
  4. I just took my 3rd test this semester on neuro and head injuries. I felt really confident going into it that I knew my stuff! I didn't do so good (80). I realized that I need some test taking skills. Most of the questions involved some form of nursing priority, or nursing diagnosis and not so much on the "concrete" information. I feel like I know what I am doing, but I don't show it on the tests. Does anyone have any test taking tips? I could really use some!!! Thanks!
  5. Thank you!! I just could not get my math set up to work out, even after I looked at the answer given!
  6. Can someone help me with the set-up for this math problem? I have my competency test (2nd year student) next week and this question is the only one that I can not figure out:banghead: Here it is: Order: 0.5 mg Digoxin The med book states only 60mcg/kg/day allowed. How many mg less or more of the allowed dose are you off? The child weighs 22lbs. ANSWER (per the answer key without any description of set-up): 0.1 mg LESS Thank you for the help!!!!!
  7. Hello my fellow male nursing students. I am in need of a lab coat for clinicals, but am unsure of what to get. One of my professors suggested one with elastic cuffs so it can be pulled up for certain procedures, but they aren't so appealing to the eye. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Thanks for the info! Cheers!
  8. Phoenixfire, I would much rather have an assertive nurse at my bedside who knows her stuff than a pretty "Southern Belle". Just be yourself and you will be fine but remember, there is a difference between confidence and cockiness. Best of luck with everything. Focker2
  9. I've been a PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) for the past 11 years and in all that time the only thing that has changed in my job is the locations that I've worked. I am going to begin an evening/weekend ADN program in 2 weeks and am very excited to start my new CAREER. I want to be a nurse because I want more lateral flexibility within my chosen profession. I like the idea of having almost limitless options of what kind of nursing that I can do. I also really enjoy the patient care aspect of my current job, but am looking forward to having a more important impact on a patients recovery in the acute stages.
  10. Same boat for me. We're renting so I can't take out a mortgage. I am currently a PTA and there are no 2nd shifts for me to work while in school. I'm not opposed to taking out a large loan to pay for living expenses as it ultimately is an investment in my future to get my BSN, but I can't seem to find anyone to lend me money!
  11. Can anyone help me with some information? I am going to be attending Binghamton Universtiy to get my BSN in the fall and will no longer be working. I have 2 very young children (2yrs, and 2mos) to support while attending college. Are there loans out there that I can apply for to cover my rent, food, and other daily living expenses while in school and not working?? I have received financial aid for school expenses, but am having a hard time finding info for other non-school related monies. I can't be the only one that has ever been in this predicament!!! Any info would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!!!
