Look at Graceland Univ Online campus also. I found the ANP Patho and Pharm classes there before heading to a brick and mortar CRNA program. They were around $1500 each, with the books, for 3 credits each.

We used our union when we had staffing issues on our unit. Their presence, along with some other help, put the pressure on managment to hire RN's as they were desperately needed.

Lionhart --- Do some research! U.S.F. has a crna program. Bay Medical also has a program with tuition comparable to the state schools, although it is an independent program. I'm headed to FIU myself and was surprisingly impressed with the program despite it "being in Miami".

I guess they didn't make calls today (thursday) since no one has heard. Maybe tomorrow? Did they tell you guys we'd know by Friday, too?

I don't feel I did very well at the interview. I was extremely nervous and was kicking myself on the way home for being that way. I can talk to anyone, anywhere and not be nervous, I didn't have my game face on for sure. It wasn't a hard interview, they ask you about times you've faced problems and times you've stepped up to the challenge. And forget about studying for the test, it's hard and they say no one EVER passess it. Good luck to you all.

What I find the most annoying is that these pts don't do what they need to to stay healthy, and then come back again and again. Then when we are caring for them they complain about being there. If you don't want treatment, DON'T COME IN!! Or atleast save us all the trouble and make yourself a DNR-DNI. I may sound a little hasty but I get soooo sick of this. I'm not a babysitter to those who can't lay off the liquids and salt. Whew, thanks for listening while I got that out.

I would NEVER even mention this in any way shape or form in any application process. This is completely your business and no one else has a right to know. Like dfk says we precautiously treat everyone like they have "icky bugs" (as we cal them on my unit) so you'll be safe from passing it to anyone else.

Which program did you get into, if you don't mind me asking! I have an interview next week at FIU. I am super nervous. Congrats!!

I work with a RN who did the accelerated program at UF. She is top notch! I know it is really intense, the patho and pharm classes were over the summer, so only 12 weeks rather than 16. Clinical time is less too but I feel you get out of it what you put in to it. I'd do it rather than an ADN. BSN can open a few more doors and possibly higher pay than an ADN. What is you BS in?

Don't let the faculty/administrators discourage you. You make your own destiny in nursing school. A group of us were looked at as big time trouble makers because we wanted to participate in a medical mission trip. Granted on our own time with our own money! The college told us "No! No!". We went anyway. Come to find out they college was setting up the same type of deal and were frustrated that we got things in order and working long before they could. Putting that experience on my resume, and having that time to be part of a healthcare team before working has opened my eyes and doors.

They make you take the HESI every semester?? Once was bad enough for me, and pay for it multiple times? Ouch.

This is crazy! Why do they think we will continue to be walked all over? I was scheduled to work Christmas, after volunteering to work ALL the other holidays and only asking off for Christmas. Took it to our "Acting NM" and she tells me too bad. It's sooo convenient that our new RN's were taken off orientation after the sched was posted so they aren't working the holiday even though they are new. I have put in my time of crappy schedules and they get off???!! But we have so many travelers because our previous management was so horrible that people left, and they can't pay travelers holiday pay so they schedule the rest of us, and there aren't that many left.

Had a confused pt today . . . hmm, everyday. I had started him on ice chips post extubation. I had just explained to him about his Magnesium Sulfate replacement that I was hanging. After a pause he asked if he could have another magnesium please. As long as the day had been he made me chuckle as I told him no, but offered him another ice chip instead!

I had to take the HESI when I was in undergrad. That was almost two years ago. You weren't able to graduate without passing it and walk in the spring graduation otherwise, supposedly. We saw it as a way for the school to increase their NCLEX pass rate by holding back some who might not pass the Nclex the first time because it would take them out of the numbers statistically. That was our theory atleast. We were never told about the test when applying, only in our second or third semester did they mention it. We were only the second class in our college to take it.
