i couldn't help myself smiling and laughing about the remarks of everyone who posted their experiences about being a nurse in the family. some of it was just funny. as for me, having children in the family exposes oneself to occasional clean-ups. especially when you have young and sickly kids who can't fend for themselves. it becomes the norm for mothers to take care of vomit/ spills etc. even if we don't want to do the job, we have no choice. i think it was part of the agreement we signed when we got married. whether we are nurses or from another profession, it's always the woman's job. one time, my son got so badly sick that he was puking all over the place. at one point, i was still cleaning up the puke when he did it again. lucky for me, my husband was around to help. save me alot of trouble of cleaning up 2 places at one time. it's good to have your spouse around for times like this. as long as we have kids and families, there is always somebody needing our help. blueviolet

i delivered my son in louisiana a few years ago. since i was fairly new in the area, i didn't know anyone who can refer me to an ob. i researched over the internet for some sources and decided to go and see a doctor who works in a fairly close facility where i lived. i decided to see a female doctor for the simple reason that i didn't want to be exposed to a male doctor. i went through the labor and delivery without my doctor's support and care. she happened to show only when my son's head was already out and did repair for a few tears. to be honest, i liked the care given by the nurse who stood by me throughout my labor. she helped me ease out the pain and anxiety. if i can go back in time, i would like to be taken cared of by a nurse midwife because of what that nurse did for me although she was not a nurse midwife. blueviolet

Hello Tiffado I took NCLEX-RN last June 16. The computer shuts off at 263. I was skeptical about it. Thank God I passed. Found out a few days after, which was like an eternity. I believe numbers don't mean a thing in determining whether you pass or fail. It's how you answered the questions. So, let us know how you did. God bless.

I agree with BabyRN2Be. You have to pay again your BON for your re-examination fee and $200 to Pearson. I am not sure about the percentage number of questions that determines one's fate of pass or fail. But I think that the computer determines beyond the shadow of doubt your competency as a entry level nurse which is what NCLEX is testing us for. With regards to your practice questions/ exams for prep, my instructor encouraged us to have at least 75%, better yet aim for 80% in any given exam. I practiced on a minimum of 75 questions to 265. During my review I always ended between 60-70% for the first try. Then I repeat the same exams after 3-4 weeks to see if I remember the rationales for the correct answers. I don't know if that is good but it boost me somehow because I always got 90-100%. It helped me gain confidence. I did alot of practice quizzes from Saunders CD too. Wish you the best. God bless

You can take Kaplan if they are available in your area. They have online classes too. It is not widely recommended because of the price. But if you want to invest for your future, it's up to you. Or you can go to NCSBN.org, where they offers online classes. I used Kaplan and Saunders. They have been very helpful. It helped me strategically organized my review sked. It also helped me what topics to take concentrate more. Kaplan taught me test taking techniques while Saunders gave me the opportunity to apply the techniques. God bless

I took my NCLEX-RN last June 16. I almost used up the max hours, 6 hours for NCLEX-RN only that the computer shut off at 263 with 20 mins remaining. I was been told to answer each item within a minute. But I didn't do that. I took my time and it was all worth it. So, it's up to you how long you have to think for each item. In case you run out, you will be graded on your last 60 items. God bless

I was terribly scared to sked my NCLEX. I registered with Pearson last June 18, 2005. I first sked my exam last October 2005. Then I got scared and cancelled it. I took Kaplan course. Bought Saunders. Dragged the remaining months of indecision. I would have moved it for another 2 weeks or so, which means I'd waste my $200. Glad my husband, who is my motivator didn't allow me. Then finally decided to take it last June 16, 2006. I am so happy to pass it the first time. After all the procrastination I did, I am relieved that it is over. Happy to plan for the future. To anyone who is going to take it, only you can tell if you are ready for it. Or better yet, make up your mind and decide to take it. Take it while it is still fresh especially those who are newly grads. Don't do what I did. I wasted alot of time. Glad that my time wasting is over. Keep us posted. God bless.

everyone who has gone through the nclex experience were perplexed. no one that i know and read from this site knew that they aced the exam. it always generates varied responses from good to worse. but just going through the experience is such a wild ride of endless possibilities. the outcome could change or break one's dream ( hope not ). i know it is worth going for. no matter what will be the end result of all our efforts, i hope that everyone won't stop believing that after the rain comes the sun. god bless to you guys. hope you all pass the exam. blueviolet

i buckled down answering practice questions on my last week before the test. it helped me plus reading the rationales after that. we can't master everything in a certain number of months or weeks what we have learned in our nursing schools for years. i think nclex doesn't require a higher knowledge but what is basic to be a safe and effective nurse, which is our entry level. god bless blueviolet

I really believe that numbers doesn't mean a thing in the outcome of your exam but on how you answered each questions and if you have reached a certain percentage of accuracy of whether you pass or fail. I did mine all the way to 263. And I made it. I thank God for it. Be happy that it is over. God bless.

I don't know for sure which one helped me the most with my exam. I used Kaplan Comprehensive Review and Saunders 3rd Edition. I know for a fact that Kaplan helped me with the strategies. Saunders had allowed me plenty of questions to practice on from comprehension level to application. I did mine close to 265 and happy to pass it on the first try. So which ever you are comfortable with, go for it. You can't absorb all the nursing contents all these books and programs in the market are offering us. Just remember, it won't hurt to risk because it 's worth it. God bless.
