Impressions of MCC's orientation today?
You would only be registering in June if you are in the August group, if I remember correctly.

Impressions of MCC's orientation today?
That information should be mailed out in the next two weeks, along with the group assignments .

working as CNA until NCLEX
which hospital is that?

working as CNA until NCLEX
i was wondering about that too. my daughter was in the hospital for three days last week and on her last day there was a graduate nurse working on her team (she was wonderful :)!). she was a recent graduate waiting to take the nclex. i would think working as a graduate nurse would pay much better than a cna?

At our orientation we were told they may be mandatory for the next class that starts.

Yes, they are sending the information about the scholarship out with the start dates. It's due by the end of June, so you have time to get it filled out. You can't fill it out without knowing what group you are placed in, that's why they didn't give us the forms last week. The information about DOVE is pretty basic. You need to buy the uniscrub top and the unisex pants, in sailor blue. Not sure what lab coat we need. It would ave been nice if they gave us the school code to use for that site, though. http://www.doveapparel.com/productsOverview.asp?product_type_id=3

Anatomy(WCCCD or MCC)
I took A&P at MCC and I have no idea if it transfers to other schools or not. I do recommend it, though :). I also had Ms Ragland and she's an awesome instructor.

So is that a program that I could buy for my regular pc and then download the software to a PDA too?

Impressions of MCC's orientation today?
I guess I am going to my family doctor to get the physical, drug screen and titers done? I don't know if my insurance covers it or not, but I need to go for something else so I will try to get it all done in one visit. I have gone to Concentra before for a work physical, years ago (the one at 18 and Van Dyke). I already knew we needed Dove uniforms and how much they were going to cost. I have a friend in the program already and she said she would sell me hers (I think we are the same size). It was amazing how some people seemed to have no knowledge of the commitment they were about to make, both timewise and $$$. I don't know what to think about the PDAs. I would assume I could get one cheaper than $200 if we end up needing them? It seems like a good investment to make for the program, whether it ends up being required or not. I was actually counting the men, I was impressed with how many are in :).

Impressions of MCC's orientation today?
It totally wasn't what I thought it would be. I didn't learn anything about the program I didn't already know . I was hoping to go today and have fun and get excited about being in the program; but that is not the vibe I left with.

Davenport
If you are referring to the entrance Hesi (not the one you take to prep for the NCLEX), all you need to do is study the Hesi study guide that the colleges have available in the library (or buy your own). That is what I used to study and I scored very well. I did buy a 6th grade math workbook to practice with too, that helped a lot!

WCCCD micro book
I would shop around for your text. Ebay, Amazon, etc. Do a search on your book title (and edition) and see what sellers pop up. Anyone who pays full price for textbooks is silly!

The logistics of nursing school and being a mom (or dad)
I was just accepted to my CC's nursing program and I am not sure how I will handle the childcare issue. I have four children, 7, 5, and twin 3 yr olds. The older two will be in school all day (and I can use the before and after care programs for them if need be), it's the little ones I am not sure what to do with. I am hoping to get into my school's accelerated group, which has lectures Thursday and Friday nights and then weekend clinicals. That would be perfect for me, I would only have to worry about childcare a couple times a month if my husband is traveling for work. If I got into the traditional program the classes and clinicals would just be a nightmare. I don't have a wonderful MIL or a SIL or sister or friend to help me out with the kids. I would hate to shuffle them around all the time too. It's gonna be rough enough having me studying all the time, and gone 26 hours or so each week. I figured if I actually got into the program, it would somehow work out for me and my family. So now I just wait for the orientation meeting and see what group I'll be in and then I'll figure it all out. Maybe I'll hire an au pair . Like I can afford that .

The dissecting thread has me worried...
I loved my A&P class. We disected a sheep's brain, a cow's eyeball and a sheep's heart. It was one speciman per lab table, so if you didn't want to touch or particpate you could just watch and learn.

Michigan wages
I've heard it's around $23-25 an hour in SE Michigan. Nurse techs make $15+ per hour.

Need advice: Get into clinicals early, or wait?
I've never heard of a program where you could do any clinicals before actually starting nursing skills/fundamentals of nursing classes. How would you know what to do? What college are you going to?

Would you give away a semester's worth of notes???
I personally wouldn't understand someone else's notes. I say go ahead and copy them for her and see what she can make of them. No big deal.

hello
I was asking the OP (original poster) if they live in Michigan; because the signature shows she's from the Philippines . Or are you the same person?

Still no letter from Macomb
Aren't they going to see how the current accelerated group does before they get another one going (they don't finish till October and can't take the boards for a month after that, right?)? I was figuring maybe they'd start another group next January or March.

Rate My Professor
I think it's quite easy to pick out the bogus reviews, they are mixed in with glowing ones. I think the site is messed up right now, though; for my college it shows all the recent reviews as "under review" . I find that the reviews for the professors I've had are usually dead on.

Entrance into macomb this year was really competative
I am not taking anything right now (would have taken patho micro but there were no late classes offered for winter semester). I am going to start my Phed class next month, and then take micro this fall. Couldn't take micro this summer either, because they only had 1 pm classes ! Who do you have for A&P? I had Prof Ragland and really liked the class.

It looks like for $24 you can replace the tubing :). I am getting the lavender; you can just be jealous of me everytime you see it . I wish I could get the raspberry in that model. Maybe if I replace my tubing I will pick that color. I told my husband he needs to buy me a new wedding band too, to wear to clinicals. He doesn't want some hot young doctor thinking I'm available !
