Heart Attack Grill (20/20 ABC show)
I actually saw this. The customers eat these huge greasy meals and the nurse wheels them out to their car in a wheelchair. She has on the slutty short shirt that is supposed to portray a nurse uniform. There is a sign outside that says "hiring hot nurses". The one waitress they interviewed said she was going to nursing school. Oh, and the guy who owns the restarant is the doctor, so he wears scrubs and a steth around his neck, and everyone calls him "doctor".

what did you do in your former life?
I am have a BS degree in business. My emphasis is marketing. I once worked for Ford Motor in their marketing dept in Detroit. I hated it! I travelled alot, which was fun at first but got old. I have always been in marketing in one capacity or another. I have had great jobs. But I have kiddos now and I do not want to travel. Plus healthcare is in demand now. I figure I have always played the role of "helper" to my customers, distributors, so now I am going into nursing. Plus, I love science. I wanted to go into medicine when I was in high school, but my dad talked me out of it because "I am a girl". I feel like he believed women should marry the doctors, not be the doctors! On a side note, my dad now sees the error of his ways. He says that I am alot smarter than many of the men he knows and he should have not detered my interest in medicine.

HURRAH!! Accepted for Spring
Am I reading your post right? The accelerated program is just 12 months? How do they fit it all in?

Ivy Tech LPN - Sit-out 1 year?
It is true that you sit out. Actually it is 9 months. The reason is this: you start your lpn in the fall and finish in the summer the following year. You then wait until the following beginning of summer to start the transition program. You join the rest of the group in the fall.

CAN you believe this! - Bad Portrayal of nurses in my local paper
Um, I do not think I will complete nursing school if only to receive minimum wage. I can earn that at Walmart! I would like to see this writer try to complete one of the required science courses

Anyone left good paying job for nursing?
Ginger, really, I think it is our world we are living in. Sadly, it is all about the almighty dollar. When I first started in my first career (sales), it was all about the customer, as it should be. Today, the customer does not matter. I was spending too much time with a certain high volume customer (highest in the southeast) and got read the riot act for it. I have just decided it is all the same everywhere, every profession. This is the new reality. Ford Motor Co. even announced they are getting rid of their merit pay programs (who cares if you do a good job??) Life in this century.....

Made a med error
Oh God, as a student this scares me to death!

Anyone left good paying job for nursing?
I left a good paying job, but I was bored to death. Plus, if the company downsized me, I knew I could never find a job that pays the same amount of money. This will give me more options. I also find I am not as tired anymore as I enjoy going to class and learning. I do have anxiety though about how much this is going to cost in the end. Credit hours here are pricey.

Information about Marian College
They give preference to those who take their prereq's at Marion (of course). However, most take at ivy tech. Ivy tech gives a good bang for the buck on their classes. I have taken all my prereq's there. The only thing I have left is stats and I can take that at IUPUI. There are some members here who graduated from Marion. Hopefully, they will chime in. I have attended their open forums, but it is too $$ for my budget. Otherwise, I would go. I think that is why so many go to ivy tech for the adn degree. Best of luck!

Legal/Ethical staff issues
I would not want a nurse taking care of me that had not had water of food for 12 hours, or even gone to the bathroom. If it is that bad, I would say bring on the unions.

Cancer and Soda
We discussed this in my organic chemistry class this semester. Benzenes were banned. My professor had a collegue who worked with benzenes before they were banned in many products (he was a chemist). She said he died of leukemia. She then told us that benzenes are still present in the waters of some sodas.

ashamed today
And you should have been at some of my former sales meetings!! And I was a rep for one of the most well known companies. Yep, you wouldn't believe it. However, my belief was if it did not effect me or my position, who cares?

A&P and Micro together
Friends, I am taking a&p 102, micro and organic chem this semester, all together. I am tracking with A's in a&p and micro. Hoping to get a B in organic chem. I have 3 kids and work 30 hours per week. I have a husband who would not lift a finger if his life depended on it. So, if I can do this you can too!

Pharmaceutical Sales?
Right before I started my prereq's I got an offer to be a pharma rep. 45k base plus commission. I turned it down. I want to go to nursing school. I have been a rep all my life. Rep jobs CAN be good jobs, but if you loose your job, good luck finding another one. With nursing, as far as I understand, if you loose your job, you can always find another one. I was with one company for 10 years (everyone would know the name), they decided they needed newer (read younger) blood so they restructured and let many people go. One guy was 53 and 2 years away from retirement. He worked for them his entire career life but they let him go 2 years from retirement so they would not have to pay bennies. Welcome to corporate America. I have been there and done that!

Planning our future and outsourcing
Mvan, you are exactly right in saying that this generation will not be able to retire--ever. We are loosing seniors already. I have been researching this for some time. There is a very large settlement of retiree's near Guadalahara sp? Mexico. The reason they live their is cost. They can afford to pay out of pocket for most of their medical costs. You can check the sight yourself or ask questions, but I believe an EKG is around $30US. Now, I looked into that price over a year ago and prices have started to escalate, due to numbers of Americans and Canadians moving there. People that I know are looking into all kinds of ways to live out their "golden years". I just do not think it will be in the United States, sadly, for some of us. The website by the way is www.chapala.com .

Planning our future and outsourcing
We need to have politicians who protect our own interests on the homefront. That is the bottom line. Do you own due diligence and vote them out if you do not like what is going on. If you are happy with the way things are then keep them in. Simple.

Planning our future and outsourcing
This all worries me as I have the same thoughts. However, I cannot imagine going to med school today and have all those loans with an unknown as to how to pay back the loans. The future of healthcare is in dire straights. Actually, and this is only my opinion, this country is in dire straights. We are spending far more than we can ever afford in Iraq, we are still dependent on foreign oil and all of our products are outsourced. What if there were to be some world calamity and we needed medical products but the products were made overseas? What if we had used the dollars spent on the war in Iraq to help our own citizens? Americans, please wake up!!!!!

Can anyone give me some advice on where to look for more funds to pay for tuition?
Lisa, Do you have a contact number for workforce development? Also, do not feel bad about using food stamps, you have paid into the system for years. No reason to feel bad at all!

Help...husband discouraging me :(
Alot of my now exfriends went to nursing school when I went to business school. The thing I noticed is that they all married doctors. And yes, they play alot of tennis, and have their nails done. One nurse even left her husband because she was so "bored". Plus he cheated on her with other nurses!
