I can be hard nosed if it calls for it, I have had my share of psych patients but I ebb and flow from compassionate to the sick,paralyzed to blank and matter of fact when I am being manipulated and worked for attention when I have reached my limit. I am a different person on certain days and all because of what I think the patient needs or wants. I am myself if I am allowed to be. If that happens I am a better nurse for being accepted as I am but if not I am in character for them and less giving for being forced into a square hole. Still either way I am a giving nurse. I always give more than others. I buy whats needed, I make calls from home, I fill in with a moments notice, I listen endlessly, I agonize over how to help them in every way. Example: Last night was the first time my patient smiled since I have been working with him. I am pretty sure this has not happened with a consortium of previous nurses. It does not matter that I change to suit them only that I can lend a little healing and love along the way

First of all I wish someone had told me never to work in a LTC Facility or hospital (on staff) as they are very clickish, snarky places to work and always a popularity contest. I work in home health and I dominate where ever I work until I get all the days/hours. I am always signed up with no less than 4 hhc agencies and 2 staffing agencies. I never let anyone mess with my money. I must bring home 5-7 or I dont feel like I can shop like I want. At the first sign of dislike I jump ship to another place. When your expertise exceeds the needs of where you work they will need you more than you need them but then you also need to upgrade your education as well. Im going back to become an MD. If you are not in demand over the other nurses start asking management what you can better.

I had a client like that. I eventually gave up on him after at least 2 years of trying to manage his demands. Sometimes they are just stuck in a place where they are stir crazy and they cant stop. Challenge him to make sense. There is a nurse who deals with him better on another shift. Go and orientate with her to see how she handles him. If not, ask him to list the steps of his care and follow it. The only way to deal with a control freak is to either take control from them or to let them have it.

In reference to excelsior- it would be nice for someone from the college to state what is needed for a RT certified and uncertified with expired license to get into the program. I called the board and was told to take a review course to reinstate the liccense. What prereqs would be needed???

Hi, Just moved to Charlotte, NC and I'm loving it! 2 questions ladies (and gents if your out there) 1) I applied for a temporary license while waiting for the permanent one. Any idea how long the temporary one takes??????? 2)Any referrals to peds agencies/registries?????? Thank you!

Due to the 3% medical cut patients and to my pay rate I am looking for agencies that pay more than the average agency. Any positive info would be appreciated! A lot of nurses out here are scrambling for more paydue to the cuts.:kiss

Hi nurses! I knew a friend once who always used to tell me to go to this agency in L.A. california. I think it was in beverly hills. Anyway she always said it was the agency for me and that it catered to the wealthy. What was the name of this agency?????? I know there is someone out there who knows? Can you tell me so I can go and sign up? Thanks
