Although this is news we still have serious issues with persons to inject narcan or take people to emergency even to call 911 during a potential crisis. Has anyone had any experience with bystanders or persons who have used this law to protect themselves from criminal convictions of such a situation? I have not personally seen witnessed or come in contact with anyone whose been in this situation I believe the present state is fear. Many people still are afraid of punishment or otherwise in case scenario....thoughts?

You are lucky to have some sympathy and support when I was a new grad it was cruel and similar to what your experiencing but much harsher. After years of experience working so many places and caring for all kinds of people what I can advise is to know your role. Support your nurse your a team not opponents your best to work with not against. Regardless or anything.what car you drive, what scrubs you wear, where u live or anything else don't allow your insecurity or lack of experience show! Stay long enough you might be surprised how many freeze up after years experience every scenario is that and everyday is new. Best afterthought or advice is to be yourself nobody will like anyone who is not themselves but pretending to be that nurse they think someone likes that doesn't end well ....be authentic show who you are but watch your back by doing your tasks and documenting everything even small details work on skillset of efficiency doing your rounds and vitals quickly...so the nurse doesnt have to ask you for things you already know you need done. Realize they don't have time to micromanage or hunt you down to get communication for those types of requests its easier to see it already in your charting system and more efficient clearer that way. don't take things personal or make excuses for your lack of doing thi gs as your not liked its not a popularity contest its a chain of command and even though the nurse will ultimately be responsible for the patients care its also your part to observe report and communicate so errors don't fall on anyone during that shift. Just relax keep working focus ans if things get hectic ask to take a quick reset don't allow emotions to dictate your behavior remain calm professional ans it will be successful

Ridiculous as it seems security is often taught that they are not qualified to restrain or hold down a patient who is conducting violentally, instead these places expect us to chase or run behind them when they are non complaint. Even though many places don't use restraints I felt safer even with soft ones used on patients during covid because of the idea they are intabated and shouldnt pullout tubing ect. Now dealing with drug addiction substance abuse as mental health is an entirely different scope of care and my thoughts are many of my costaff are not trained or know what should be done in these type situations. It's never any protocalls no codes one place called it code gray and that only meant to request for backup but didn't instruct on how to deescalate these type things. Most of us depend on veteran nurses who know what to do and take the reign by pushing an elbow into their shoulder for them to surrender hold onto us. Our state is not concerned on protecting us by any means its only one sided and this is why we have lost so many career nurses due to after graduating they feel that they didn't signup to combat these concerns and especially are not going to risk there lives to get the job done for facility who will throw us under the bus. Side with patients as there always right no matter how many times there not its a constant threat and struggle that needs some damage control

What sort of monitors ans communi ation devices are used for coworkers ans managers as well as upper management? We have seen change in shifts and vague inacurate reports on condition before patients assessed and some patients have dropped had accidental falls fell in bathrooms hit their heads and sent back minutes after arrival as DOA ...done post mortum care in all above. hospitals, covid units during covid we had hard enough time to get the paramedics or others to transport living patients when we cleaned bagged and tagged we didn't know what happened from there some places employed had a seperate building to store the bodies and it was best solution from what I have seen or experienced outside hospital where its all the post mortum care but alongside the nurse all tubings were removed minus feeding tubes. The only other complaint was experiencing patients with live maggots living in wounds because patient would not allow amputaion and at end of life it was traumatic to preform post mortum care on that patient as she was not treated by tge nursing staff neglectful it was tge facility understaffed poor quality of care ? many things happen in some of these nursing homes and we often wonder what the future holds especially in CA with the lack of support and staff there many outdated never had anything done to upgrade its sad they are so old and like sickning depressing to witness
