  1. 8 patients is way too many patients, even for seasoned nurses. I've been a nurse for 17 years and would refuse that patient load and look elsewhere.
  2. .....sometimes CNAs are just lazy or too sensitive especially Women and don't understand an old black man screaming as he tries in a diaper on the bed laying down to defecate the hardest most painful BM I have ever seen someone go through and I felt it when I cleaned him up, it was hard. Did I really just read that?
  3. Learned of this one in nursing school and have never forgot it: Pt came to ER for sprained ankle. Was discharged with instructions to "ice her foot." Pt actually soaked her foot in ice water for an extended length of time. Pt ended up losing her foot.
  4. Yes. I left management and am learning how to circulate in the OR at a much smaller hospital. I took a big pay cut....and have absolutely ZERO regrets.
  5. It is always possible. It depends on who is doing the hiring at that time. Be flexible, be willing to float to other departments in peri-op if needed. Getting into ambulatory surgery is a good way to get your foot in the door for PACU. Ask if you can cross train. Good luck!
  6. You'd be shooting yourself in the foot if you DON'T take this position. Those are great hours. You have plenty of time to get into critical care if you want. You can always get back to bedside if you want.
  7. What are the dynamics here? Is the board manager new? Are she/he and the scrub techs friends? You left to get new lead and the other nurse was in the room. You didn't do anything wrong in my opinion. Watch your back with the scrub tech that complained though ?
  8. Look for a position in Day Surgery or Pre Admission Testing. They are usually closed on weekends and holidays. Good luck!
  9. Stick it out and quit being so hard on yourself. CVICU is not an easy unit. Keep learning. Your lucky to be there if you have only been a nurse for a year.
  10. If there is no manager or director, I would give it to HR.
