Thank you for all the suggestions. I have the Saunders ebook for NCLEX prep. I’ll probably buy the physical book. Seems like it’d be easier to navigate. I do like practice tests to help me study. I relied heavily on recorded lectures during the commute and study guides. We will not be provided study guides and I am not good a picking up on what will show up on exams.

My grandfathers brother was Plezzie and my grandfather was Trezzie. I never had enough family contact to ask how or why. I just assumed it was some long lost motherland name. There was a Netflix show about names and the effects on children. I don't remember the name of it. It featured Winner and Loser. Loser went by Lou and was a police captain. I think Winner didn't do so well for himself.

This is a great point. I wanted to go to med school not nursing school because I don't want to baby people into feeling better. That's just a horrible misconception. Once I was accepted to school and realized I could be the nurse I wanted to be, I gained a since of pride. Nurses are the eyes and ears, they aren't dumb or uneducated and will probably listen better than the doc will. But, it took me some time to appreciate nurses. They aren't medical babysitters for boo boo's and poo poo's.

Good day fellow Nurses and Nursing Students, We had orientation yesterday and I have a few "what do you think" questions; 1. Class officers. Pros Cons and experiences? I think I want to do this. 2. Scrubs. I looked yesterday at buying some. Apart from the price what features do you love and dont love? I am looking at the Cherokee iflex and infinity. I don't want to buy a cut that looks pretentious (is that a thing? or am i being neurotic?), like the jogger pants. I like them fine but noticed the instructors wr the traditional legs... so I think i'd take their lead. I am not a high maintenance female by any means and want to keep it that way. I don't want to come off snooty or better because i spent a bit more... i am considering the scrubs an investment in the next 2.5 years. 3. Studying techniques. It was emphasized that if we didn't know our learning style to find out and apply it. I am a kinsethetic learner. Any suggestions? 4. Any other suggestions?

Perhaps this hospital has had a few bad experiences with students. Keep at it and change their thinking! When you move on they’ll remember how great you were!

I haven't even started nursing school and; 1) the doc clarified it as 1000? and then 2) the experienced lot of nurses here say 500? there is an issue. Good luck OP. I am almost dreading the spring semester now.

Hey they have a refer a friend program, when you're ready this gets you 2 weeks of prime access. I'm a little jealous that they have different access for RN vs med school, but I suppose it'd just be more information than I need to sort through. I wanted to go to med school but thought RN was more feasible and I can work my way to being a surgical nurse, I think my mindset is still MD-ish. https://www.osmosis.org/

In osmosis? No I don’t think I’ve even noticed a quiz. It could be a subscription thing with them. I’ll look at those anki style notecards. I’m still trying to figure it all out. I used the free stuff over the summer in anatomy and physiology and completely forgot about using it this semester (I had better instructors, fewer gaps to fill in). you can email them, they will get back to you quickly. They do have a YouTube channel which is what I mostly used. I just sprung for the membership yesterday. Sorry I’m not more help.

Thanks @Rionoir I haven’t heard of Anki, it sounds like osmosis. I can add my notes, pptx, and handouts and it’ll suggest videos, Flashcards and links to picmonic and other sites. It also does the spaced reputation learning. I think I start with a few ebooks. We have some that must be purchases as a bundle from the bookstore. I just can’t see trying to keep up with so many books.

I’ll be 52 when I’m done with nursing school. I have a friend that got her MD in her mid 50. I think if you are interested then work towards it. I am enjoying classes and learning. I think It’s good to keep our brains engaged. Good luck!

Hi all! I begin the BSN nursing program this spring. I think I counted 14 books for three classes. I’ll probably get them all, as I don’t anticipate them really being unused. But how has it been for the rest of you? All the books and the recommended ones too? And does anyone use ebooks? Good, bad, ugly? I sprung for an Osmosis and a Picmonic membership. Any other good learning aids?

I’m thinking that, even though this is a heartbreaking event, it’s a total win for you. It doesn’t sound like you had a good education from this facility. Starting over sucks, but sometimes it must me done. hopefully you can get reimbursed for the money spent or salvage some of your hours. Good luck.

X g= 12oz x 1lb/16oz x 1kg/2.2lbs x 1000g/1kg use the relationships through dimensional analysis. If you’ve had chem I, it’s the technique often used to make these conversions. Start with what you need to know = the simplest information you know. Th n line up the units so they cancel out. Oz divided by oz is nothing, lbs/lbs, kg/kg. You are left with grams, so you can be sure it’s set up right. also... 12oz is 3/4 of a pound... and a pound is ~500 grams... if you knew that you can probably guess at the answer since they will likely be wildly different. I took my teas las week and it did not give me area for a cylinder. So those types of things might be helpful to know.

I know we all need to get paid. But if you feel that a career change is best, then start working towards it. You have time to decide if it’s something you can fall in love with. Take those classes and watch for red flags. I currently am about to apply to nursing school for spring. I have a bachelors, a good paying job (40$/hr salary), but it’s a hostile environment and not where I want to spend every day until I die or retire. Or walk out without a plan. I love the medical field. I know it has its flaws, but at the end of the day, hopefully I can feel that my day meant something to someone, not fattening the fat cats. In my opinion, it’ll just give you the freedom to make that change if/when you are ready too. What if you met mr/Mrs right in school or while in school? Or something else changes where it made nursing the absolutely no brainer right choice? I vote: work in that direction.

@clintonjohnson13 Thanks for the reply. I am applying to East Central University in Ada ok. Also TWU in Denton, but I doubt I have much of a chance as I just discovered that I need all of the prerequisite classes to apply, before applying. I did schedule a meeting to see if I can get a waiver. ECU has a rubric that totals 106 points, I have 85. My program GPA is 3.68 and my retention GPA is 3.40 ( yes, I poo pooed some classes). I have scheduled to retake the teas. I’ll feel better that I gave it my best try and didn’t just “hope” I make it with the 81, even though it will not afford me any more points. I appreciate your vote that the 81 is fair! Thanks! eta I lack microbiology to apply to TWU. I also don’t get the points on the ECU rubric for not having had it. But, that’s fair since other students will probably also be finishing up a class or two, I hope.

Can you retake the course and replace the grade?

I haven’t taken it, just the TEAS. But am looking at a program that requires it. How was it? Did you score well enough?

I’m vying for a spot on a local nursing program, didn’t study but scored well enough. I will likely retake the exam because, why not? My composite score was 81.3% reading 78.7 math 87.5 science 85.1 English and Lang 70.8 I apply this fall for a spring start to a BSN program. The minimum TEAS score to be eligible to apply is 58.7%. Looks like the program mean is 70, my percentile rank is 82. There is a rubric that gives points for “proficient “, “advanced”, and “excellent” also points for scoring above 71 in reading and above 67 in math. I have the reading, math and “advanced” points. I’ll probably re-sit the exam. But, wanted to hear where other scored and if it was good enough to get in. I emailed an advisor asking if 87 (assumption that I score better)advanced matters over an 81 advanced, but have yet to get a reply. What do you think? TIA
