just took the nclex this morning..... had about 15 SATA, no ordered response...... 2 math questions. Got shut off at 75, tried the PVT trick and got the good pop up..... hoping for the best!

Dont worry too much about "studying" right now but do review any areas you struggled with in the past. Also, try to enjoy the free time you have cause you'll be missing it once school starts!

I have some advice as well: DONT FORGET TO HAVE FUN! Seriously, our nursing instructors try to scare us and intimidate us especially throughout the first semester. "you wont have a life, you can't work, you can't have fun" I've heard it all! It's easy to get stressed out cause of all the studying and school work that needs to be done but you need to balance your life and make time for fun activities. I've had a couple of close classmates completely burn out because they were just studying 24/7 and worrying about things that were out of their control.

Ooooh boy, my orientation is tomorrow and school starts on Monday! I'm pretty excited about starting school but unfortunately I dont feel ready to go back to school plus I'll be working full time while attending nursing school. I think I've enjoyed my summer "too much" if there's such a thing and my mind doesnt feel ready to go to school. I've managed to cram a trip to Panama, 2 cruises, a backpacking trip, and 3 trips to vegas with one pending this weekend over the last couple of months and I'm in a total party mode.... Are you a kaiser employee? If so are you union? Check with the union to see if they have any type of forgivable loan/tuition reimbursement type program. I work for Kaiser in OC and I'm applying for 8 hour weekly stipend through my union (seiu-uhw) hope it helps.

My name is David I'm 23 years old from Long Beach, CA. I hope to be attending DSON this fall for the BSN program. I just got back from a 3 week vacation in Panama and I just read the emails about the May 23rd deadline.... hopefully my spot is still available.

I'm pretty sure the scrubs thing gets taken care of at the orientation. Does anyone know how soon we are supposed to send back our payment plans?

By the way, it looks like I'll be able to come up with the tuition money and attempt monthly. I've managed to come up with 25k so I'm hoping that I can come up with the rest while I'm in school..........

I was there on Wed April 16 sometime between 11 and 12 or maybe a little later.

So I got my acceptance letter..... or did I? It has my correct address on the letterhead but it say's "Dear Amy" on the actual letter.......

That's the way he made it seem regarding the Sallie Mae Loan. He gave me a statistic that I cant exactly remember regarding the percentage of people that pay as they go compared to people that get the Sallie Mae Loan. I believe it was something like 70% pay, 30% get the loan. You should contact him however just to make sure. I picked up a brochure on the loan itself and here's some interesting tidbits: You can apply for a Career Training Loan online at www.salliemae.com/ctl and get a credit decision usually in less than a minute. Actually I was going to type out the whole thing but it is a bit time consuming. If anyone is interested I can make a copy of the brochure and fax it to you.

thanks, from what I understand they do not accept stafford loans due to the accreditation issue. In a way though its a blessing in disguise because if they did have regular student loans then there would be a long wait list at this school (just like all the other schools) and we probably wouldn't even be talking about this school.

I'll quote what he said "Ask your grandma for the money, she can loan it to you with interest as well". Now I wish I had a grandma with 36 k lying around but since I don't I have to look into personal loans, borrowing, and a whole lot of praying.

Sorry for the late replies..... I went to Denver last week and had a great time. I forget how beautiful the city is and how much different it is from Los Angeles. I met with Jeff and he's a pretty nice guy. We went over my transcripts and he gave me some history on the school and a bit of info on their future. The school itself is in a small building but it is a nice atmosphere and the location is not bad either. Overall I received positive impressions from the school and staff I was in contact with. I'm hoping I can get my financial situation figured out so that I can attend the school in the fall. He discouraged me from doing the Sally Mae loan for reasons we've already discussed and said that it's almost impossible to get approved right now without a co-signer or two. The only payment plan that seems feasible is to pay as you go $3000 down in september and then $1650 a month for the duration of the program. He said I only had a few weeks to decide if and how I was going to be able to finance my education because there will be someone waiting to fill my spot if I decide not to go there. So now I'm trying to frantically come up with $36000 before I leave for vacation to Panama in two weeks...........

So how are everyone's school situations working out? I will be flying into Denver tonight to check out the school tomorrow morning. I will keep you guys posted on how it goes.

Did you already apply for the loan and get 5%? That's a pretty low rate for the SM loan, most people seem to be getting around 8% or so. Also you need to keep in mind that it is a variable rate and it can go up on you. Let's say you take out 40k at 8% and get on a 15 year payment plan. You would need to pay $353.59 a month for 15 years which will end up costing around 64k total. Now that's if you begin paying right away! If you only pay the interest or if you wait till you are finished with school to begin paying then you will be paying a lot more.

Yeah same here, I've waited a year and a half and it feels like such a waste of time. I just want to get school over with and get my career going already. Now my only question is, how much debt is too much debt?

Yeah it's really discouraging. I guess you can just let the interest balloon for a couple of years and end up paying 70K+ in the end.

I've applied at Cal State Long Beach, Cal State LA, Cypress, Harbor, Long beach city, and El Camino....... got tired of all the rejections and waitlists.

I've lived in Long Beach and Fullerton for the last couple of years. I attended Cypress and Fullerton college for my prereqs. I'm not quite sure where I'm gonna live, I'll probably rent a room somewhere near the Denver area. Is your family/fiancee moving over with you too?

Anyone can co-sign for you for the Sallie Mae loan..... the interest of the loan is what kills you though. I wish the loan didn't begin accruing interest until after you graduate, how do they expect you to pay the interest on a 36,000 loan while attending school on a full time basis? Didn't they strongly discourage working while attending school? Once I get a loan (if I get one) then I will have to worry about getting a job that can fit around my schedule because I will need to support myself somehow.
