New School Nurse
Let me guess...Palm beach county @HUN18

Bellyache
I do all the above, ask them if they want to use the bathroom. If they straight up refuse bathroom, and VSS and assessment normal, I send them back to class. I have 600+ kids at my school, but I usually know which ones really have an issue and which other wants just want to see if I will send them home. Also, a lot of kids at my school have not eaten and so are hungry....easy fix!

Really Sick
I rarely ever get sick! Over the holiday break, I had an ear infection and sinus infection. I also work per diem at the hospital, so I think I may have just been stressed out with work. But usually I dont get sick, and I dont wear masks in the school, hospital yes!

Why so long
I had a parent who, after 3 hours, picked up their feverish child. Took them to the MD, stated the MD got a different temp reading, so could the child come to school tomorrow since her temp was only 101.1. UM NO, thats still a fever... what about with a MD note...NOOOOOOO

How many?
Elementary school 600 kids 50 staff 1 Nurse (me), no aide

PreK Potty Problems!
Absolutely not! We are not allowed to change the kids. Our Pre-K teachers and aides do this. Older kids, who have accidents, and need help, I give clothes to and let them change in the clinic bathroom.

Challenging Situation
Agree to all the above. If it gets to a point that I think things are unsafe, even if it is policy, I will leave. Fortunately I have a full time job, I was just doing this for additional experience and some extra money.

Challenging Situation
completely agree also though, the "policies" they follow are very outdated. But I guess a starting point would be at least locating them....

Challenging Situation
Just looking for some guidance. Due to my husband's job, we had to relocate. It has been difficult finding a job that I like as much as my old job. Finally, I did find a job that is great. To supplement the income, I also work per diem at another facility. My issue is that I came from a top 10 children's hospital. Policies were clear, well followed. Magnet hospital. Overall, great nurse and doctor relationships. This new per diem position is pediatrics, but part of an adult hospital. Does not seem anyone follows policies. When I ask about policies, they say they are hard to locate. The methods/practices seem very outdated and not evidenced based practice. I am just conflicted because I see so many issues, and want to protect my license/patients. The hospital is not bad, but just outdated in practices, at least to me. Thoughts?

Advice please!
The man smells so strongly of pot. There is almost a cloud around him. True, I guess I can’t “prove” it...it just doesn’t seem safe to me...

Orienting/Onboarding
2+ weeks of general HR, didactic health classes, computer training, and then working with five other clinic nurses in the district. It was amazing. There are 200+ nurses in our district, and in my sub-area, there are 16 of us.

PARENTS say the darndest things
