  1. Very good read. You missed one item in the risks for development; we have a score of patients that did get the Covid shots, develop a PE. The science also proves this.
  2. Limey, AWESOME and reassuring to me! Thank you for the post. I too became an LPN at 50. A second career for me. I admit I struggled a little after starting in a hospital rehab unit with feeling "less than", but there was no way I wanted more pre req's, some repeats in order to change my title. I LOVE every day I am on the unit doing what I want to do now as a nurse.
  3. My apology for not clarifying the flippancy of the nurses that did work side by side with covid patients while our colleague refused to pass any fit test. When a nurse is honest about being insecure and is concerned for their family and just simply cannot do their job that is one thing. In our specific case our colleague was bragging to another staff member about the fact that she was purposefully “failing” every fit test as her out during the crisis. Therein lies a vast difference.
  4. No nurse has signed up to work without appropriate PPE. Period. To these points I completely agree. We were asked to reuse our masks for many multiple days. We did finally get 2 N95's so we could send one for UV light disinfecting and still have one. I would NOT go into a COVID room with just a bandana, nor should it be considered. We are still being asked to wear 2 masks unless one is the N95 and goggles/eye protection for a "just in case" test positive. If we are being kept safe as the priority, then most nurses on our unit trudge on. We only had one nurse that "failed" every fit test, but then stated she was not putting herself at risk anyhow. We chalked that up to she is more important than us........in her eyes. What do you with this nurse if there is a resurge? The majority tolerance was thinning back in May.
  5. Yes definitely measured it correctly. I was even taught to stay at 12-6 and 3-9 if the wound is more like diagonal.........but I've had nurses with many more years than myself do that too ?? If I am floated to a different center it is nice to look at the previous measurement and kinda stay within that parameter.
  6. Londonflo ~ I LOVED the references and graph from Florence Nightingale. ?She wasn't called the 'Lady with the Light' for no reason, and she saved an awful lot of men with basic sanitizing. I am not using this website to be political. We are nurses, and as nurses, I do not want to lose the focus that I joined this family to take care of people. To share ideas, comfort others, learn how to manage illnesses. I too read and watch what is going on out there. Humans do some crazy things to create biological "cures"; vaccinations, medications, immunizations, for a veritable array of bacteria and viruses that become part of life. We've lived through Agent orange, Swine, and Bovine flu's to name but a few. I never want to forget or lose focus that I am a nurse. I clock in, and I do my best to keep the memory of Nighingale alive. Compassion, caring, and even on those days when a patient is pushing my buttons, to remember why I chose the profession.
  7. Very hard to have any confidence in Fauci knowing that back just a few years ago he indeed proclaimed not “if” but “when” a pandemic would come in the near future tells me we need to remember to think for ourselves, practice safety, Florence Nightengales basic tenet of hand washing, don’t touch our faces and be aware of your surroundings. Fauci is not my conscience or end all authority nor do I see any humility in him.
  8. 98.5% survival rate. I like that “A hit with the Ladies”. I also agree that we can control more of how we treat our bodies I.e. what foods we grow and/ or eat, how sustainable We can and should live sans government intrusion. I for one have decided when the times comes that my employer insists I have the Coronavirus “vaccine” I will decline. I mean heck we are still wearing masks and eye protection on my unit so I can handle a season of masking in an effort to say - my body is not a trial run for the rushed fix-. Sometimes it is just weary, weary indeed.
  9. I love that perception is key to how you feel walking on the floor every day. I chose to be a nurse after a successful career in medical management. I was able to obtain a BA as a single parent and not become an RN BSN at that time simply because at the time they did not have evening/weekend programs as they do today. I bring a nice mentality as a former manager to the floor as an LPN and only recently during the COVID crisis did I feel the "Oh, you're an LPN" mentality. We all received a blast email to place our names in a float pool to work elsewhere, and after feeling confident having COVID patients, and knowing the proper PPE usage I threw in my stethescope to help my fellow nurse colleagues. Imagine my surprise when there was no area for me, and LPN, in the nursing pool ? I emailed the author of the email blast and received this reply, "LPN's are in the non-nursing personnel." YUP! In a rural hospital working as an inpatient nurse, caring for COVID patients, I was considered non-nursing personnel. I decided to email the VP of Clinical nursing staff and made a stand for LPN's within our large network system. Hopefully things will change, but at least I stood up for myself. Good luck out there wherever you land, remaining an LPN, moving on to RN, BSN, MSN and above. Hold your head up. We are nurses, and we care for those that need us.
  10. That is a spike ! Please stay hydrated and get well soon !!
  11. I totally missed it !! Yes, Lyme disease. A great follow, thank you again !! Feel better soon !
  12. I am still leaning towards Lyme disease. When the answer is revealed it will be a good conclusion. I have been working with COVID-19 patients and we have had about 10% of our positive population, test or retest with a negative, and then within 48 hours retest positive. Has the patient been retested for COVID? Has he c/o any joint swelling which I had mentioned earlier especially in knee(s)?
  13. Any joint swelling in the knee, unilaterally? Would probably r/o COVID but continue self isolation until labs are back.
