  1. Anyone have any experience working for either Schevier Homecare Services or MJHS in the Bronx? If so how are the working conditions? Patient load? Work hours and benefits? Thanks!
  2. Acute care is basically short term care- you are seeing a patient for a few visits up to a couple of months to either monitor their stability, provide wound care or treatments, and/or provide teaching of medications and disease maintenance. Long term care is managing a patient over years, providing ongoing monitoring and management of their healthcare needs. espikey
  3. As an LPN, I would check out any local LTC facilities in your area and give them a call. Not all hospitals hire LPNs, so that would require more research. I believe Montefiore and the HHC hospitals do hire LPNs. If your looking for part-time or per diem work, know that they will expect you to have a few years under your belt. Hospitals might ask you for letters of recommendations, but usually they just call your previous jobs to verify employment (in my experience). Hope this helps, espikey
  4. Check out Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. espikey :nuke:
  5. Holy Name does not hire LPN's. espikey
  6. Correct...Apply for reciprocity and you will be licensed in both states. espikey :)
  7. The NYSNA website offers these courses online. espikey
  8. Correct. You can take your boards in NY and later apply for endorsement in NJ, allowing you to have a license in both states. So get your license first from NY's Office of Professions, and once you have that in hand go to the NJ Board of Nursing website to download an application for endorsement and follow the instructions. espikey
  9. In reading this thread, I'm a bit confused- what is the difference between comfort care and hospice? espikey
  10. As far as I know, an LPN cannot flush or administer meds through a PICC line in the state of New York. espikey :)
  11. The Nurses Services Organization also offers reasonable insurance. Check it out here: http://www.nso.com/ espikey
  12. LPN or RN salaries?
  13. The NCLEX is the same in every state, it is only the requirements to take the test that are different. espikey
  14. Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing- LPN Class of '06, RN Class of '08 espikey :)
  15. Well, from what I know NYP rarely hires LPN's. As far as what other facilities pay, I was quoted by an 1199 rep anywhere from 18-25 dollars per hour that are unionized. espikey
  16. St. Patrick's is $28 per diem. espikey
  17. Yes. If you go to nursing school in NJ, you can choose to take your boards for NY first, and then get reciprocity in NJ later on if you want to. You do not have to automicatically take the boards for NJ just because you went to school in that state. espikey :)
  18. NY requires infection control certification and child abuse (if working in an environment with peds). There is no minimum CE requirement in NY to renew your license, unlike NJ which requires you have at least 30 CEU's. espikey :)
  19. I don't believe you need your paper license to fill out the application, only your license#. The state in which you first took your boards (your original state of licensure) has to verify your status for the state in which your are applying for- this is on a seperate form. Got to the NYS Office of Professions Board of Nursing webbsite for more details. - espikey :)
  20. I was once told by an 1199 rep that in New York the LPN pay at a union hospital is anywhere from 18 to 24 dollars per hour. As per diem, I have heard of hourly rates from 23 to 32 dollars, depending on the facility and experience. - espikey
  21. You have to take your boards in NY, and once you get your license go to the NJ State Board of Nursing website to download the Licensure by Endorsement application. A NJ license might take you a while, as all applicants have to go through a background check. Good luck, espikey
  22. Cool, thanks for the info!
  23. Hi there, Anyone familiar with the NLN ACE 1 PN-RN Childbearing and Child Health exam? If so, do you have any thoughts or tips? This test is given to "CLEP" out of Maternal Child Health courses for those who are already LPN's but are pursuing their RN. Thanks, espikey
  24. Hi Angie, I went to the one a few months ago at MSG. I thought it was very helpful and informative. Just get there early and have copies of your resume. Make sure you also keep the guide book as a reference, since they have a list of all the vendors and their contact information. Hope this helps, espikey
  25. Hi there, Anyone have experience with Passaic Community College's nursing program? Specifically the LPN-RN bridge? Any comments are much appreciated! Thanks, espikey
