  1. Hi, I’m thinking of opening up a small outpatient practice and I was wondering how much collaborative physicians are charging in California. Thank you!
  2. Thank you for your response. I work in the correctional setting for a big company so when someone sues us, (even frivolous lawsuits) the county gets named, my employer, the medical director, and several others. If it is settled out of court, and it is one of those suits that many people get named in, will it show on my individual record? For instance, even if the provider didn't do anything wrong, they are still named. The provider at my company reports it's because they have "deep pockets." At the end of the day, the company/county split the bill- I've never heard of any individual providers having to pay out of pocket. You're right ?
  3. Hello, I'm a new grad NP and have a question about lawsuits. The provider I work with(MD) told me she has to report lawsuits to her board. I work in a correctional setting, and when patients sue, they will frequently list/name all providers that provided care in the lawsuit. Do I have to inform the BRN that I've been named in a Lawsuit? These lawsuits almost always get settled out of court and are paid by the company. (I'm in California-I've tried getting information from the BRN- and have received no response).
  4. Thank you!! I appreciate your help!
  5. Hi, I've been having a hard time finding PMHNP residency programs and was wondering if anyone had a program they would recommend. Thanks!!
  6. HI! I'm in California and I just graduated from an MSN program and passed the ANCC PMHNP exam.... I applied for my NP license and Furnishing number. I requested my ANCC verification be sent to the the board- now I'm wondering what to do next. It looks like I need to apply for my NPI, a DEA, and a controlled II substance certificate. Here are my questions: 1. Can I apply for a DEA without a job? 2. If I can apply for my DEA without a job; what address should I use? (I've read you have to have a business address to apply but I can't find any information to confirm this). 3. Besides obtaining a DEA, do I have to do something extra to prescribe controlled substances schedule III-V in California? 4. Do I take the schedule II course before I apply for my DEA or after? 5. I don't have a collaborative agreement because I don't have a job lined up yet; will I be able to obtain the DEA without a collaborative agreement? If you have any other info I didn't know to ask; I would appreciate any advice!! Thank you!

  8. Hello, I am already licensed as an RN in California. I will be graduating from a Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner program in May 2020 and have some questions about the process and I am hoping you can help me. It was mentioned in my program we should apply for our license early; the California BRN has an alert on their page that reads, "In order to furnish (prescribe) drugs and devices to patients, you must submit an application for a Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number together with your Nurse Practitioner Application.” Should I wait until I pass my ANCC and have all my documents before I apply? Do I have to turn 3 applications: a NP application, a furnishing license application, and a Psychiatric mental health nurse application? Or do I just need to turn in the NP application and furnishing license application? If I need to wait to apply; when should I request the transcripts and verification form the form from the school and ANCC? Transcripts sometimes take weeks; what happens if I request those and they arrive before you get my applications? For the Application for the listing as a psychiatric/mental health nurse: I'm not sure what I should put for Page 7, Question E. "Supervised Clinical Experience in Psychiatric/Mental Health Counseling.” It seems like this is independent from my clinical experience which will be verified by the ANCC certification. It wants Beginning and end dates Supervisor's name and profession Briefly describe the nature of your clinical experience and state where it was obtained Do I just need to list one of my preceptors for this question?

  10. Hi. If you want to be an RN... just get your pre-reqs done & go straight into an RN program. Most of the BSN programs are set up for the full time nurse so after you get your ADN you could work full time while obtaining your BSN if you wanted to. Good luck!
  11. I've learned any experience is good experience. My first job was at a psych facility & once I had 6 months experience, it opened tons of doors. You'll learn a lot no matter where you start. I also recommend you continuing your education. Start a BSN program, get your ACLS/PALS etc... Good luck!
  12. Hi. I work in the ER & use a Cardiology IV; several of the RNs & MDs use the Cardiology III. I suggest you try out both & see which one you like the best.
  13. Hi! I just started the PMHNP program at EKU. I was wondering how you liked it? Was the research project hard? And how difficult was the comprehensive oral exam? Any advice about the program in general ?
