I neglected to say some hospitals take months to hire. I applied to several hospitals after RN nursing school. I got hired by a travel agency, which I wouldn't recommend if you have no experience, I had been an LVN for over 20 years. As soon as I started working they started calling me to come and work at hospitals some months after I applied. I had already committed to the place where I was working so I turned them down.

I teach nursing students, and most of the time, they walk right into their new position. Usually, if they have difficulty, they have a bad work history and or perform poorly in the interview, or they keep applying for jobs that ask for experience. Let a seasoned nurse interview and hear your response, and review your resume. Also, interview at nursing homes and clinics. In some areas, hospital jobs are full, and they are looking for some experience. When you search on Indeed and other job sites, search for new grads. Some places want to hire only new grads so they can train them.

Some nursing schools have as low as a 20 percent graduation rate. I think that is insane.

So true, most convalescent hospitals give 3 days of orientation. Two in the classroom, one on the floor, and off to work you go.

Repetitive study, question after question. Reschedule if your not doing well in your practice questions. I did Nurse Academy Plus, I studied for 3wks, I did every question in there test bank until I passed every section 100 percent. I passed in 75 questions. My test was mostly Select all that apply. My study course had SATA questions, I don't think I would have passed without that course.

I used nurse plus academy, it was excellent. My test stopped at 75 questions. I freaked out because almost every question was select all that apply. Trust your muscle memory, don't second guess yourself. I was going to change a lot of questions in which case I would have failed but I passed. One of my instructor's told me your first instinct is probably right and she was right. Study those SATA questions for sure. Apparently if your doing good on those you get more of them. To me those questions are the hardest.

In my LVN to RN program we did our first clinical without going over insulin. One of the LVNs in my class did not know how to do a blood sugar. They assumed because she was an LVN for 10 years she knew how to give insulin and do a blood sugar. She did not, she had worked in an office doing paperwork, no patient care, I had to show her how to do an Accu Check and give insulin. All the basics should be reviewed in every program.

Being a male nurse can be a blessing and a curse. Your usually left out of the infighting, that's a blessing. You do get a disproportionate amount of the difficult and over weight patients dumped on you. I love it though. Patients tend to treat you like a doctor. I have to repeatedly tell them Im a nurse.

Every one makes errors of some sort if your a nurse for any amount of time. Don't quit, when you make an error it causes you too become hyper vigilant. Quite often the best teacher are people who have made mistakes. I worked at a place were a new nurse was being oriented and she made the same kind of insulin mistake, she was a new nurse and she should not have been allowed to do anything alone for at least a few weeks. In that incident the preceptor was fired, a new grad should be observed and checked off on every skill. If someone is asking me how to do something I go and show, even a traveler should be observed for at least a few days checked off. If you have never done it ask for help no matter how long you have been a nurse. Some supervisor's will not want to teach you, if they don't want to teach you or show you how to do something you have not done let them do it. If that little voice in your head says I don't know about this, something's wrong, listen.... Its like when your taking the NCLEX the first thing that pops in your head is usually right. If you brain says ask for help or Im not sure ask for help. I have been a traveler, if you don't know how to do something push the issue don't wing it. Get help.

Go deliver some babies. Your kids are old, live the dream. Every nursing job I have had I hated and learned to love it. If you have already loved it your ahead of the game. The only thing that's changed is charting on a computer instead of paper.

I was having difficult breathing do too sickness, they were so short they called the staff doctor who gave me a breathing treatment so I could stay and work. When you are a nurse and your sick its a bummer. I did not want to leave so it worked out, if the breathing treatments would not have worked I would have been gone, gone gone. I thought I was dying.

The package insert contains both the negatives and the positives. Not either or but both. A medical professional does not push there agenda. They give the facts both good and bad and allow others to make informed decisions. Trying to hide facts causes suspicion and suspicion causes people to be hesitant. I'm a community activist, I have done a lot of work with homeless people and being honest and giving them all the information removes the hesitancy, not belittling or minimizing their concerns. Honesty is best, that honesty may cause some to hesitate and others, most from my experience will take the shot. Years ago a guy was trying to get people to invest, all he talked about was how much money people would make, the risks were minimal, but there were some risks, a lot of people made money, some lost everything. The stock broker was sued and lost the case because he had an agenda and did not educate his investors of the risks no matter how minimal. What he did was illegal. That same principle applies in nursing. Your are responsible for sharing all risks and benefits. The vaccine companies cannot be sued because of emergency use but a medical professional who does not share the risks can be sued if they do not share the risks and there is an adverse outcome. I'm done with this post because Im tired of the conversation. We both want people vaccinated. I just want to do it honestly.

I'm not elevating anything, sharing a package insert is simply sharing information. You are the one trying to push an agenda. You want to force people to agree with you and punish them if they share information that disagrees with your agenda or with you even if that information is factual and from the manufacturers. You want everyone to submit to what you think they should do. It's each persons right to decide based on the facts what they want to do with their body, Autonomy. You may not agree and that's okay, I honor your decision, but you really need to stop trying to intimidate people into agreeing with you.

My point is I shared information from the package insert and nurses started saying it was misinformation. When in fact they were spreading misinformation by calling it misinformation. While at the same time saying people who spread misinformation should be reported to the board, my question is will they report themselves for voicing a misinformed opinion. I simply stated there are no long-term studies on Covid vaccine outcomes, and I took the vaccine after weighing the risks of getting it with the risks of not getting it. Under warnings the insert repeats everything I said verbatim. I shared quotes from the insert without sharing the insert because I knew this would happen in a conversation about false information. People report people for spreading false info even though it is true info, my point is you should study before you attack. In fact you should not attack you should open a dialogue and speak to the concerns.

The reactions were 1 in 100, 000 for one condition and 1 in a million for another condition. I know inserts are put there to cover manufacturing butts but I also know the info in those inserts are true. Even in the example I gave of long term adverse affects the recommendations were to change when the immunization is given to avoid the side effect not to withhold the vaccine. They did not learn this until years latter. Like I said, I believe vaccine is safe and the risks are minimal. My issue was with people threatening anyone who talks about side effects and labeling them.

That's a joke, right? I listened to many of the people on this platform say anyone who spread misinformation should be reported to the board. Then I engaged them in conversations concerning the vaccine were they Made matter of fact statements about the vaccine that I knew were not true, because I teach I read and study everything before I speak. You shared misinformation most of our debate. Then I shared the facts from a APA reference study and a government website. You said there are never long-term side effects from any vaccines. I shared a government website that lists one. I said I weighed the good and the bad concerning the Covid vaccine and decided to get the shot you accused me of spreading information for saying anything bad even existed. I shared an article from the University of Alabama that goes over the good and yes the bad you claim doesn't exist. According to research usually adverse side affects from vaccines happen within weeks, which is why I waited and decided to get the shot, but that is not always the case. Note the word usually in the article. Short-term adverse affects are rare, 1 in 100,000 and 1 in 1 million. Hopefully the long-term data comes back positive also. The info in the article is readily available in the package insert. My question is should you be reported for spreading misinformation. You know something has been politicized when your accused of spreading misinformation for sharing the package insert info. You Address concerns when people are hesitant you do not blow them off, insult them and lie to them. If I were a patient and I was one of the 1 in a 100,000 that had an adverse side effect and you told me it never happens. Is that a tort? Be honest with people.

Every medication or vaccine comes with a package insert that tells the risk and benefits, I have never seen one that has none. They are minimal with covid but they are there and patients should be taught those risks.

I did not validate or elevate anything. I voiced my concerns which are legitimate concerns. People who share their concerns usually share them because they have them and want to know if others have the same concerns. I did not share my concerns on social media, but if I had wanted to share my concerns it would have been my right. Not one statement made by me was misinformation. Your not being therapeutic in your approach to my concerns. You should have repeated my concerns and engaged in patient teaching. You should have acknowledged the truthfulness of my statement about there not being a long-term study because the statement is truthful, you should have told me about the short-term data that is now available and patient outcomes. Millions have successfully taken the vaccine without any adverse affects. You should have shared with me the number of successful immunizations and the number of adverse reactions. Then I could have weighed my concerns against the value of the treatment. I looked at the data, I did not allow myself to be bullied into making a decision I was not comfortable with. I looked at all the data from all the sides. I was not afraid of data, in favor of or against Covid. As a DSD cert nurse you learn to use data and positive influence to change opinions, you acknowledge concerns. All I'm saying is that people should not be demonized for sharing positive or negative data about Covid. When a patient is diagnosed with cancer you don't try to force them to except a course of treatment's through name calling and labeling. You share the outcome data from both treatments and you let them chose. Suddenly anything negative about Covid cannot be shared even if it is true. On every immunization or medication box the manufactures share negatives and positives, they share data and let you decide. Which is what should happen, all of a sudden if you share any of that info your sharing misinformation. The data is never misinformation. If we did more of that instead of telling people their real concerns are not valid we would get even more people immunized. I shared with some of my circle how millions have gotten the vaccine without adverse side effects, I acknowledged concerns. That convinced some of my circle. Data, data, data. In the nursing process its called informed consent. Share all information, the good and the bad and let the patient make a decision. Bullying never works, it just leads to civil war. In Houston hundreds of nurses quit because they were being bullied, their concerns where not addressed. I would have made vaccination an event, put up a giant graph every time a million people got vaccinated without an adverse reaction, I would have acknowledged legitimate concerns and focused on the positive data, I would have given out coffee mugs, and I'm protected buttons, clapped every time someone with a button walked in the room and shared ICU and ER data across the country and patient outcomes the info that convinced me. Everyone would have already been vaccinated before the mandate ever happen and no one would have gotten fired. What happened there was an example of poor management. Our society has started using name calling and labeling as the default setting, that's why our government cant fix anything anymore.

Post my misinformation, there are no long-term studies, it has not been around long enough to have any. I took the vaccine after I saw that in the short term there were no major problems with adverse reactions or side effects. I have already taken it so hopefully the long-term outcomes will be just as positive.

Again I did not say anything about the science being in doubt. I said we don't have any long-term data about the vaccine which is a legitimate concern and is why I held out and is why some others may be holding out and I would not insult or talk down to people because they have concerns. Gaslighting is trying to make people feel like their legitimate concerns are not valid or real through insults and mockery.

This is what I mean by abuse. I did not say what you said. You created an argument, said I said it which I did not. My statement above was not what you accused me of saying. What you are doing is called gaslighting. When someone expresses a legitimate concern, rather than discussion you demonize and try to make them feel like their concern is not valid. Its what abusive people do to there mates. Gaslighting is a form of manipulation that occurs in abusive relationships. It is an insidious and sometimes covert type of emotional abuse where the bully or abuser makes the target question their judgments and reality. 1 Ultimately, the victim of gaslighting starts to wonder if they are losing their sanity. My suggestion was that we will know more about this vaccine in the coming years through legitimate study and long-term use.

We did what we needed to do to save lives. I am grateful for operation light speed and the right to try law passed by President Trump. He has saved lives. Real science takes time. Prolonged use of Protonix can lead to C-diff, yet every senior home in the country uses it. We did not know it could lead to C-diff until it had been used for years. That's why I think all the name-calling needs to stop. Using the scientific method requires time. A lot of people keep making matter-of-fact statements about this vaccine. We were told that we needed 1 shot then 2, now we need a booster and some scientists are saying we might need yearly shots like the flu. They just don't know. Real believers in science, observe people who have taken the vaccine or medication and observe and record their findings, after this vaccine has been on the market for some years we will have data as we do with Hep B and some of our other long-term vaccines. Until then science does not accuse or attack, it observes and allows people to make decisions based on the principle of autonomy. So far the data has been promising as more data comes in more of the people holding out will get the shot.
