  1. In N.C. you have to be certified through NBCSN along with your license from NCBON.

  4. Check out Sept. 16th post "Insurance." I asked the same question and got some very helpful info/advice.
  5. I work in the public school system.....Should I join NAE and/or purchase liability insurance specifically for school nurses? I'm curious to know what other school nurses do?

In N.C., school nurses are required to pass the National Board Certification Exam for School Nurses within 3 years of being hired. Then you are placed on the teacher's salary schedule-( "M" license or Master's level schedule) by years of nursing experience. Also you are eligible for the local salary supplement pay in your county. So I have 11 years nursing experience + supplement......$46,260 + 2,500= $48,760 / 10 months
  7. I sent you a comment but it is being reviewed by Moderators before it is posted. Sorry! That might have happened because I copy/pasted some info.
  8. I mostly relied on the book, School Nursing Certification Review by Janice Selekman & Linda Wolfe. I LEARNED THIS BOOK COVER TO COVER. I took it 1 chapter at the time.......I would read 1 chapter then go back over that chapter making note cards. I had the book, School Nursing: A Comprehensive Text by Janice Selekman. But this book was so in depth that I found Selekman's review book to be more helpful as it goes over the key points without getting too bogged down with details. Also I took every free test I could find online. I also went through Amazon and placed a digital order for...... School Nursing - CSN Certification Review (School Nursing Certification Series Book 1)[Kindle Edition] By: Charity Woodfield, Robert James, Joan Martin, Tina Nguyen Sold By: Amazon Digital Services LLC I had to download the kindle app. This purchase gave me 500 questions for $9.95. I just didn't want to spend the $75 for the practice exam from NBCSN. I noticed on nbcsn.org just a few days ago that The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) has opened a discussion list for school nurses considering or taking the National Certification for School Nurses exam.” (Exciting News for Candidates) Best of luck to you!
  9. I am soooo glad I passed but it almost seemed anticlimactic when I read the email. I almost thought it was a hoax. I'm grateful that I received an email or else I would still be waiting. But EVERYDAY I worked myself up going to the mailbox and EVERYDAY I got nothing in the mail. Congratulations to you also CJforme01!!!
  10. I commented yesterday that I called the toll free number around 2:00 and the lady said it would be more like 8 weeks to receive my results. Well yesterday at 5:18, I received an email telling me that I PASSED and I will receive a certificate in 6 to 7 weeks. I'm so relieved and excited to pass but I didn't realize they sent out emails.
  11. I took the National board Certification test at the end of July, so its been 6+ weeks. So I just called the toll free number after checking my mailbox today. The lady told me it will likely take up to 8 weeks to receive the results. I totally agree that it takes such a long time to receive results considering our present technology. I don't understand that either.
  12. You're right! Pinterest is not a source to be relied upon. But thank you for that tip! I was just stating how I had really looked everywhere for info and there really wasn't much. An older post in allnurses.com comes up when you do a google search for NBCSN. However, the post is older and doesn't contain current info. I just posted this to inform other people who may have the same questions that I had. Hope it can help someone in their quest for info.
  13. I just took the exam for school nurse certification and was very frustrated because no where on the NBCSN site does it tell you what is considered a passing score. So I emailed them. They promptly replied that one needs a score of 620 to pass and receive certification. They also stated that each question is worth different points. This is the first time I'm hearing this! Granted there is little info on the web about the NBCSN exam. I just thought I'd put this out there for anyone else seeking this info. Older info on the web and pinterest is incorrect. I guess the exam used to contain 250 questions and a passing score was 74%....NOT NOW! I was pretty happy with how I did and felt like I passed when I thought 74% was the goal. I assumed 200 questions at 0.5pts each. So now I have no idea how I did on this exam! Now I have to wait 6-8 weeks for results!!! Come on! How long can it take to scan a computerized test?! Did anyone else know this? Any idea how questions are weighted? 620 out of what?
