I also work as a psych nurse prn and when we discharge a adolescent and parent doesn't want to come get them we threaten and do call 911 and report it has a child abandonment. As a school nurse I never had to do that yet....
  4. I worked psych the last 19 years and I am still on PRN. the last 2 years I have been school nurse in middle school. Personally I don't think its stressful not compared to psych nursing. I have always been good at time management and organizational skills so I always have my IEP 504s etc done a head of time. I still get yelled at and threaten by parents but honestly that is nothing compared to working on the psych unit. It doesn't even bother me to know I am only medical professional in building of 750 students and 100 staff because I know I can call 911 if needed.
  5. I was a sub for year before I got my full time position.

I am at middle school it seems like lately I have been getting a lot of stomachaches right after lunch usually in the afternoon after 1pm. I mean a lot of them!! I am debating if I should send out a email to teachers to try and keep kids in class and offer restroom instead. Really I cant do much for a stomachache anyways. What do you do??
  9. I got a email that BCBS has grant program maximum $1000 this is my 2nd year of school nursing and I need help of how I would use the money. I have write proposal addressing each of following areas: Program encourages health lifestyle by either one of the following 1. reduce cardio risk factor 2. promote physical activity 3. Encourage health eating habits. then I need goals and how the program will be measured along with financial summary of the funds. Any ideas?

  11. This happens to me more often then not. Today everyone has cell phones. In our office if they don't go though me they don't get excused "medically" they just get a unexcused illness instead and I let the parents know this when they come pick up their kid.
