UCLA Summer 2019 New Grad Residency
From what I have read other units have made offers, I believe perinatal and OR have made offers. To my knowledge micu has not sent neither offers or rejections yet.

Nope, I haven't heard about anyone from the 2nd round of interviews reporting an offer or rejection from MICU yet.

Anyone in or finished the pre-licensure online BSN program?
It would be challenging. In my experience, you are extremely lucky to get your clinical schedule in the 2 week window prior to clinicals. More likely than not you will get your clinical schedule right before clinicals or even during the clinical window. If you are having to fly in this would be pretty difficult and could add up. During my first term, a classmate was flying in from Nor. Cal for our assessment. Her flight was delayed multiple times. And she was extremely stressed trying to get down here. And that was the last day to test. Ultimately it depends on your lifestyle, financial situation etc. But it will be challenging due to the last minute changes.

How NP programs view WGU?
In regards to accreditation, you should not run into any issues as WGU is CCNE accreditated. FYI- they have a pre-licensure program in CA and Texas so obviously, these state nursing boards don't have issues with the curriculum. It would depend on the NP program you want to attend. WGU's grading scale is on a PASS/ FAIL basis, which upon graduation translates into a 3.0. Some schools will accept it, others will not. If you browse the WGU FB groups there are several graduates who have gone on to reputable NP programs.

Anyone in or finished the pre-licensure online BSN program?
I have found that the Course Mentors (professors) have been helpful when I reach out to them. In regards to difficulty of understanding them I think that varies based upon your own learning style and their respective teaching style. Sometimes, it may be a great fit othertimes not so much. You will find the same at any program. Not sure what you specifically want to know regarding clinicals. So I'll cover a few topics. In regards to clinicals, we are given a clinical window in which we may expect to complete our clinical rotation. This schedule may be given to you prior to the beginning of the clinical window or in some cases after it opens. It depends on the facility you are assigned too and their scheduling. Clinical rotations are what you make of it- get in there learn and absorb everything you can. Ask questions, don't be afraid to make mistakes as long as you learn from them. Don't be the student that stays on their phone or hides and you will be fine at clinicals.

WGU Nursing 2018
Hi, I'm not in Texas. However, I am in the California pre-licensure program. With the exception of clinical sites, our program is essentially the same. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy to help!

Already in, or have completed the pre-licensure program
I would say that the majority of my cohort, either work jobs where they can work 3-12's per week or not working. There are a few that do work M-F jobs but seem to have a bit more difficulty with scheduling as we progress in the program. Please keep in mind, while you are given a calendar for your entire program. The clinical window is just a place holder- your actual clinical dates can be slightly outside that window as well. Scheduling does their best to provide 2 week notice, but that does not always happen. Depending on the nature of your job, your employer may not be appreciative of such short notice for time off. I do think a 9-5 (M-F) job is doable the first two terms. By the third term, you may want to find something a bit more flexible. I say this, because if you do not have clinical and labs on the weekends , you will be use up your PTO quickly. Some employers may be supportive of you going back to school, provided it doesn't interfere with their needs and policies. Once it does- you may encounter some difficulty. Everyone has a unique situation. Not sure if it helps, but several instructors have also mentioned that by the end of the program...most students have either drastically reduced their work hours or have quit their jobs altogether. As LVN you will definitely have options with job flexibility should you decide to pursue something else while in school.

Already in, or have completed the pre-licensure program
Hi, I'm currently in the pre-licensure program. I am happy with my choice so far, it is the best fit for my lifestyle and needs at this time. That said, everyone has unique needs and you have to figure out whats best for you. Once you complete the initial 6 month pre-licensure term, you will have monthly labs prior to your clinical intensive. Albeit, it is not the same as seeing your classmates and instructors daily but you do have more frequent interaction beginning your 2nd term to the completion of the program. I don't feel alienated as my cohort have created group chats in WhatsApp and Facebook to touch base, ask questions regarding material etc. and we tend to speak daily. As I am in California, which is a very competitive for nursing programs. I do not regret my decision. While it is more expensive than a community college program, I will be graduating with a BSN vs an ADN. In California, many hospitals will not hire you without a BSN so this program was a necessity to make myself more competitive in a challenging job market for new grads. The other private programs I was admitted too were significantly more expensive than WGU and cost was definitely a factor in my decision. Hope that helps!

Clinical Sites in California
Hi Trixiehvl, Yes, I am a current pre-licensure student at WGU. For the most part, I enjoy the program. There is no perfect nursing school or any school for that matter, so there are obviously things that may irk me. Which may not bother you at all or vice versa. What I can say is that this program was the best decision for me, my lifestyle and family. I do not regret my decision. You determine your success in the program. Online learning is not an easy way out- you really have to be dedicated and stay on top of the material and most importantly supplement the info/ask questions whenever needed. The program is 2.5 years. It is more so an hybrid program. Theory is online. After you are accepted into the 2nd part of the program---You have labs/simulation monthly and a clinical intensive. I have another post on here that is pretty detailed on how that works in you just look up my post history. Everyone is different, but I find that for the most part when I go to clinicals the info learned in theory kinda clicks in. The lightbulb goes off and I have an aha moment! During the first 6 month prelicensure term. Almost all of your courses will be WGU objective exams- therefore you can take them at home using your webcam and a live proctor who will watch you take the exam. The first time can be a little nerve wracking, but honestly after that I totally forgot that anyone was watching and was able to focus 100% on my exam. After you are admitted into the 2nd part of the program your exams will be a combination for ATI exams and WGU objective assessments. Basically, anything related to your clinicals will be an ATI exam.

Hiring Probability for Student nurse CPs at UCLA
Thank you for the insight! Unfortunately, my school does not have clinical rotations at UCLA so that is not a feasible option for networking at this time. I'll definitely look into the summer externship for next year. Either way, I'm happy for the experience...even more so since it is paid. Here's to hoping we are one of the lucky ACCP's that end up getting hired on as new grads!

Hiring Probability for Student nurse CPs at UCLA
Hi, Please share your experience in applying. I was recently hired as an ACCP as well, with the hope that it will also help in being hired on there as a new grad. During orientation, I heard quite a few people mention that several ACCP's were subsequently hired on as new grads. However, during the new hire paperwork session, I did meet a new grad RN who was hired after doing the UCLA summer externship.

Weekend/Evening So Cal Nursing Programs
Hi, When I started the pre licensure program is estimated to cost around $23-24k. However, there was a slight increase so slightly higher. Albeit still significantly cheaper than some of the other accelerated bsn programs around 60-90k or west coast at 130k í ¾í´¤ After you complete the first term, you will have an interview with the state director, course mentors, student mentors. It will be a video interview. Unless there are technical issues. I understand that not everyone makes it to the 2nd part of the program. But it seems as though those individuals failed to complete the required courses the first term, or didn't keep appointment with the student mentors etc. I think the 2nd letter came within 2 weeks of the interview. I know it arrived before the 2nd term started. FYI...initially you will start off with weekly calls with your student mentor regarding your progress. If your mentor is comfortable with how you are progressing they may allow you to move to calls every other week. Whatever happens make sure you make that appointment. If you don't make it. Email an update. They want to see that you are in communication with your mentor.

Accepted to WGU Pre-Lic BSN
Congrats JazzyKaine! I am happy to try to answer some of your questions- feel free to PM me. I'm not quite sure if I understand your question. So I will say this....The pre-licensure program is slightly different than the other degree programs. So when you see people saying that they complete their degree relatively fast i.e. 1 term. That DOES NOT apply to the pre-licensure program. Your first term you can play with the order in which you take the required classes. The following terms- you will follow the degree plan. In regards to the competency exams. Each course mentor is different-some may suggest you go through the course of study and then take the PA. Others will suggest that you take the PA first to assess your strengths and weakness and return to the course of study based upon that. I suggest, reviewing the COS- watching the cohort videos and/or attending live sessions for the course when available. Always reach out to the course mentor early on if you have any questions or need guidance on how to get started. Also, once the classes are loaded in your profile- you can look around at the syllabus ahead of time. I hope I answered your question. If not, shoot me a message and I will clarify.

Weekend/Evening So Cal Nursing Programs
No, you don't have a choice for lab- PERIOD. Upon your "2nd" acceptance into the program, you will receive a schedule. This schedule will contain all of your lab dates and the date range for the "clinical intensive period". To my knowledge, the lab dates are set in stone- unless for some reason the school needs to reschedule. You will not receive your schedule for the clinical intensive until you have passed the lab simulation/assessment. Scheduling tries to give you the schedule at least 2 weeks in advance, but there may be instances where you may not have that much notice. In addition, most hospitals require the WGU student to attend an orientation of some sort (it should take place before your first clinical, but there is always the possibility that it won't) so there will be at least one other day that you will need to have available. Unfortunately, this will not be provided in the initial calendar- you will receive notice if you are required to schedule this. Please note, you can share your preference for a clinical schedule (i.e. Friday/Saturday or nights/weekend) but there are absolutely NO guarantees that they will be able to accommodate your request. They will try to match you with a preceptor whose schedule is aligned with your needs. But I know some people requested days and ended up with night shift, others requested weekends and were given weekdays instead etc.. I'm referring to the pre-licensure program. Therefore, it is for individuals who do not possess a nursing degree (ADN). WGU has a RN-BSN program geared towards those students. WGU does not have a LVN -RN Bridge program, so if you are a LVN desiring a BSN you need to apply to the pre-licensure program. As far as I know, WGU looks at your overall healthcare experience, TEAS, pre-req's etc I don't think the lack of a bachelors would keep you from getting in if you are a competitive candidate. However, I do think you have to complete more non-science pre-req's to eligible to apply i.e. english, history etc. My understanding is that the Cali WGU nursing program is one of the more competitive programs- so if you are in Cali- the higher your teas score is- the more competitive you are. Just to clarify-- ***1st acceptance*** you are accepted and complete the 1st 6 month term "pre-clinical" term ***2nd acceptance*** you successfully completed the 1st 6 month term, clinical bootcamp (at the end of the 1st term)_ and interview with the state director, instructors and your mentor makes a positive recommendation for you to continue.

Clinical Sites in California
Thank you! I also noticed that there are not a lot of posts from the pre-licensure students, so I am trying to help address questions for potential students as much as I can too. Yes, that is correct- California students also complete a community health rotation- to be eligible for the PHN certificate. Unfortunately, that is a ways off for me so I don't know much more at this time.

Clinical Sites in California
@centercourt2015 Good to know- just curious do you know which hospitals/ departments your cohort may have requested? If you are not comfortable posting that information, I understand. I haven't made 15 post yet- so I am unable to PM, but when I do- I would love to chat with you to ask you a few questions. If that's ok with you...

Clinical Sites in California
Thanks for the detailed post! I was not aware that you could request a site for the practicum-it is still a ways off for me but I will definitely follow up with my mentor regarding this early on!

Clinical Sites in California
You're welcome. Yes, that is correct. You are assigned to a cohort. Unless something has changed, the admission counselor should give you an idea when you apply as to what location your potential cohort will be assigned too. There are exceptions, for example- you may be reassigned to another location for psych if your hospital doesn't have a psych dept. I believe community health is another rotation in which we are assigned to another facility.

Clinical Sites in California
Current prelicensure student- below you will find the clinical locations that I am aware of, there may be more so for accurate information I recommend contacting the admission counselor. Cedar Sinai Huntington Memorial Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center Mission Hospital Placentia There may be a new clinical location in Covina- if you search the board, you will find that newly accepted students mentioned this new cohort. I assume that the hospital is Citrus Valley- but I don't have any additional information. Sorry :/

Weekend/Evening So Cal Nursing Programs
I probably should have mentioned the wgu Prelicensure program as well. Please note, it is different than from the rn-bsn program which is geared towards individuals who already have an adn I am in the Prelicensure program. But technically it's not nights and weekends only. It is doable with a job but important to note you need a lot of flexibility as you only have advance notice for labs. Clinicals you will get the schedule as few as 2 weeks in advance. I have posted info on the program. Just search my post history. Any other questions feel free to ask.
