The second week of August, I will be shadowing a nurse practitioner who works for a vascular surgery practice. I will be observing in the OR while I am there. She told me to think of some procedures that I would like to see and she would see what she would be able to get us in on. I am SOOOOOO Excited! Surgery is something that I am interested in as well as cardio/ vascular.

If you were able to see any type of surgery/ procedure, what would it be?

I saw a CABG, very interesting.

Not really a vascular surgery, but a Whipple is really neat to watch. As far as vascular goes, Carotid Endarterectomies fascinate me.

I would choose the carotid endcartectomy as well. It'll make you rethink some food choices.

so far I have found out that I will be watching Valve replacements, a couple of CABG's, a couple of fistulas, and a couple of carotid's

Specializes in Emergency/Cath Lab.

You basically hit all the major ones. I liked the Fem Pop for some reason as well

Specializes in Oncology/hematology.

I would LOVE to see a heart transplant.... but I don't think that there is much standing room when that happens :)

So far I've seen a CABG and a Liver biopsy...

I have always wanted to see an amputation and gender reassignment surgery .

Gender reassignment would be quite interesting!
