hi everyone! :welcome: i'm a newbie here... just wanna ask anyone who have problems in their applications to cali....

can you share what problems you encountered....

i wanna do good on my applications....

my first question is do i need to pass the license or a diploma will be good enough? i don't have mine yet cause i just passed this june....

can anyone help me? lawrence???

anyone??? :uhoh3:

Ok, I'm not in California, but I see no one's answering you so I thought I'd take a look :)

It would help greatly if you could be clearer about what you mean by "application". Do you mean application to sit for the NCLEX? Or application to work in the US...?

You cannot sit for NCLEX without first providing documentation of graduation from an accredited nursing program. Is that what you meant in your post?

I think at one time Suzanne4 (NCLEX Forum moderator) did not recommend California to people who were attempting to come to the US for nursing. One of the reasons had to do with the length of time it took to obtain NCLEX results without a social security number (SSN).

its just that my relatives are all there and i don't want to be alone in a foreign place if ever i will work there. the application i'm talking about is the one that you will pass to cali for approval of eligibility to take the nclex exam. i haven't received my license yet and i'm thinking, will they accept my diploma ONLY or should i include some certificates like certificate of passing since i will receive my license longer than i expect???

i really want to finish this application since everybody here is telling me that it will take me 8mos to a year of waiting to be eligible. i appreciate any comments... thanks to all who replied to my post earlier...

Thread moved to International Forum where it is more appropriate.

First, there is no NCLEX application, you need to apply to a state for licensure as an RN, the NCLEX exam only requires registration for it. You need to be approved by the BON to be able to sit for the exam.

The issue is that CA is taking six months now on average to grant permission to sit for the exam, and it will take about 4 weeks to get your results after you take the exam. If you wish to work in CA, you still can apply to another state for licensure, and then just endorse to CA afterwards.

Please take the time to read the stickies at the top of the International Forum, it will answer many questions that you do have and also will give you much information that you need to know for working in the US.

Especially, what I call the "Primer."

i've read all about it and i still want to apply to cali because of my relatives, mainly.

so my question: will they accept my registration if i send only my diploma with supporting papers like certificate of passing since my license is not processed yet due to the leakage issue. will they accept it? what do you think??? i really want this registration to be over and done with. please, i need help.

Specializes in awaiting for Schedule A visa...

No one has experience similar to your situation as this problem arises only just this year. Why don't you give it a shot? who knows you might be able to get eligibility?

Specializes in ER.

You could just as well apply in New Mexico and then endorse? It does not really matter - the main thing is to be able to HAVE your license in HAND - in a reasonable time frame. If you cannot get licensed without SSN - I'd do it the other way around - relatives in CA or not. It really does not matter so much because you can sit your NCLEX anywhere. My license is New York and I sat the exam in FL.

are pay rates in general much lower in new mexico?

The choice is up to you, all we are saying is to go to antoher state for initial licensure and then endorse to CA, that can be done in about one day.

You are looking at minimum of five to six months before you even get authorization to test, then another two months to get a test date, and the month of waiting to get your results.

There are states that will normally give you authoization in just a short time, and you can get results in two days. The big issue right now is concerning the NLE exam, I have not seen one ATT be granted from any state where the nurse applied after that exam. Everyhting is on hold. And I think that you are going to see some applications denied, Arkansas has already started, refusing to grant a license to a nurse that took that exam.

compared to what? ca? yes, but cost of living is also lower.

I applied in California and even with all the requirements it took me 6 mos to get my ATT then another month to find a vacant test date, then another month for the results. Are you a citizen or a permanent resident? You can't apply without the SSN. I think you should consider applying in one of the compact states since it's faster and easier to apply into. If you're worried that you don't have a relative in other states, you don't have to be scared. In my case I applied in california but I took the test in Pennsylvania coz' that's where my parents live at. As long as there's a pearson vue test center in that area you can take the exam in california even if you applied in a different state. When you pass the nclex, I think you could apply for endorsement in california.
