pre-reqs

What classes are your pre-reqs? and what do you recommend taking?

Featured Replies

Pre-reqs will vary by nursing school. You should check with the nursing school(s) you are applying to and find out what they require.

However, it seems the most common ones are Microbiology and lab, A&P 1 and lab, A&P II and lab, Organic Chemisty.

My school also requires Lifespan Psychology and statistics. Some schools require a nutrition class. It just depends.

I agree with the post above. It depends on the program(s) you're applying to. Most schools require:

Anatomy & Physiology

Microbiology

Psychology

Pharmacology

Please be aware that these courses have pre-requisites before you can take them. For example, you can't take Anatomy at my school until you've had Cell Biology & Chemistry first. Micro requires Cell Biology & Math, etc.

It's all based on your school's requirements and they vary from school to school.

Most schools have their pre-requisites listed on their website.

My school is :

Anatomy I & II

Two Psychology classes

Microbiology

And then basic English 101 & 102

Umm i think thats it, all these before applying and taking Pax test

Intro to Bio, Intro to Chem, Eng 101, Algebra, A&P I & II.

Chemistry, intermediate algebra, A & P, micro, composition 1 and 2, sociology, humanities elective, psychology, health elective, and CNA certification. I didn't realize we had so many.

I'm applying to 3 programs in January. All 3 require:

Anatomy

Physiology

Microbiology + Microbiology Lab

Psychology

Human Growth & Development

Pharmacology

English/Writing

Math (Intermediate Algebra or higher)

Humanities Elective

Communications Elective

Social Science Elective

2 of the programs also require Pathophysiology & Biochemistry as well as taking the TEAS test.

Needless to say, it's a LOT of work! Your best bet is to work with a pre-nursing advisor to map out your academic plan to ensure you're taking the correct courses in the proper sequence.

Mine are:

A&P I and II

Micro

Eng 1

Sociology

College Algebra

Our prereqs are chemistry and A&P I

The pre reqs that I'm taking right now are psych, bio & lab, eng 101, and math. I'm taking another math, chemistry, and then human anatomy then those are done. But then there are co reqs... Like pp's have said, schools pre reqs vary.

My school's pre-req's are English, intermediate algebra, physiology, anatomy, and microbiology. But I know you have to take biology before take the other science classes!

My school requires Biology and an ACT score, but for this year they changed it up and now they require Biology for majors which is more difficult. Chemistry is also an option, but I decided biology was easy and it was easy enough.

Just as another example... These are the pre-reqs at my university.Rhetoric and Composition I & II, General Psychology,College-level math,Introduction to Sociology,Anatomy and Physiology I & II, Microbiology,Chemistry (3 hours),Developmental Psychology
