Platt college?

I would have to disagree with you. Platt College is accredited by the American Association of Technical Schools. The nursing school is also fully approved by the state board of nursing. Take a look at the school website and look at their information

yes, i definitely agree with you that it is approved by the obn, however they are not accredited by the nlnac. huge difference. basically, from my research, i have discoved that if you want to go on with your bsn and you have an adn from platt every 4 year university i've looked into requires that you graduate from an nlnac program.

Maybe we can get someone who is attending/has attended to explain this further? I've heard a LOT of negative stuff around my hospital about Platt re: accreditation, transfer of coursework in bridging to other levels of nursing, and employability of grads - but nothing other than negative ranting, I'm not sure if it's reliable or just ranting. Information, anyone?

I do have a friend going to Platt for her LPN right now. She loved that she was able to start right away (no wait list as of last fall), and has really enjoyed her classmates. She's worked very hard and I hardly see her now that she's started clinicals - but she seems happy with the experience.

She did tell me it was much more expensive than other LPN programs she looked into. But it was convenient with her schedule and she was eager to get started right away.

I know the accredidation/transfer information to be true. I met with one of their "advisors" over their LPN program last April, and while it is true that they have no waiting list, their price for the LPN program is $28,000, which I laughed at. I told him I could get my RN and all my prereqs done for less than that at a CC. So then he told me about their LPN to ADN program...the only catch...if I ever wanted to go to BSN I would HAVE to do it at Platt (his reasoning was since they are a Private College and do not require prereqs because they teach you everything you need to know then other colleges do not accept their credits) BUT once I had my BSN I could go anywhere for a Masters. Of course the ADN and BSN programs are even more than the LPN programs. Just my personal experience and through researching their options I found the other info.

I've heard Platt horror stories as well. I know someone that graduated and then couldn't get into a RN program anywhere without starting over. $28,000 is ridiculous! My LPN program is $4,000. Craziness!!!

Yeah its definitely craziness! Your friend could go back to Platt for her LPN to RN....and it will only cost another $50,000!! :) lol...total craziness! But the reason they would have to start over is because Platt is not accredited.
