Do any colleges or universities in Ontario offer part time programs either for RPN or BscN? More specifically part time evening courses.
Thanks.

You should be able to do several of the required courses part time in the evening, but you might not be able to get the nursing-specific classes then. Maybe narrow your field to a smaller area than "Ontario", get a list of the programs available in your smaller area and take a look at their course calendars online.
thank you for your response. i've been out of school for many years and would like to go back for nursing. my plan was originally to go full time, however, due to family commitments i am only going to be able to go part time. do i have to apply to the full time program and then only take classes when offered? how does it work? i've been looking through the college and university websites and i only see part time options offered to existing nurses.
is it possible to take courses through continuing education prior to being accepted into the program? the two colleges i'm interested in are sheridan college and george brown.

Humber College offers the RPN diploma part-time, two evenings a week until clinicals, for a length of three years. I'm enrolled in the program myself and it works wonderfully as I have four young children and work as a ward clerk part-time alternate weekends. Sheridan College also offers a part-time evening program I believe. The BScN is not offered part-time evenings here in Ontario unless you are already an RN looking to bridge from Diploma. if it was offered to non-nursing students I would have gladly taken it. The closest program I could find for a part-time BScN was through McMaster U - but the course are offered during the days at various times, rather than the evenings.
mamaonamission,
Thanks for your response, I will look into both colleges. When you applied did you specifically apply to part time studies? I didn't see this option through Ontario Colleges.
Do I just apply and once accepted select the part time route?
One more question, did Humber require you to have all your prerequisites or were you able to enter the program as a mature student?
Thanks,

Georgian College offers their RPN program part time( 2 nights/week) and is going to offer the PN - Bsn bridge part time next year.I did the part time RPN and it was a good experience.I am planning on taking the bridge eventually. The only part of my schooling that was during the day was the clinical placements. They were also part time, usually 1-2 days /week.

You can certainly apply as a mature student - there is an entrance exam you must pass to be accepted, but you do not need to have any other prerequisites. The exam is on Biology, Math and Chemistry as well as an English essay. You can also apply part-time - check out the Humber College website for the information as to how to complete a part-time application. If you do decide to go this route, feel free to email me for any questions you may have.
Best of Luck!

I just found out that Loyalist College offers a PT RPN program that runs 3 years. Its three days a week with one week of clinical a month. No classes in the summer for the first two years. Then in the third year it runs all year. They take 26 students and don't start until they have that many. Not sure where you are, but maybe this would work for you. The classes are through the day though from 9:30-3:30. I would love to do this program myself, but Orillia is just too far for me to drive. Classes are in Rama (Orillia) and clinical is in either Midland or Penetanguishne. (sp?)
