Opinions please...

It sounds like you are more proud of being a mother than an LPN. If that is the case, and money is not a factor, why not stay home and be a full-time momma???

If you WANT to be an RN, that is one thing. But to me, it sounds like a case of what you DON'T want (that is, to be an LPN).

If you are in a position to do/have what you really want - then go for it!!! It sounds to me like what you really want to do is be a mother. Being an LPN is NOTHING to be ashamed of. I have, and continue, to learn from LPNs all the time. Nursing school is hard work - if I didn't want it as bad as I did, I would have quit the 2nd semester.

God love you for wanting to be mother - I love all four of my children, but if I had to be a fulltime stay at home mom - well, there just aren't enuf good drugs in the world that would make that work for my sanity:rolleyes:

If you have to work and need the extra income an RN would give you, then go for it. If you like what you do and want to work - do you need the RN to do that or can you continue to do that as the LPN?

Be proud of what you do - LPNs are wonderful!!!

Financially speaking, $90,000 isn't that much money. What if you had to work in the future to support yourself and your family? Would you be better off as an LPN or as an Rn. You're right, that is an amazing opportunity.

I was an LPN for over 9 years before i became an RN and was NEVER ashamed to be called that.

Your issue isn't that you want to be an RN but a mom to stay home and nurture your children-an opportunity most women don't have nowdays due to the economy and all the "toys" we think we need.

Sandi, give someone else a chance to take that spot in the RN program and stay home.

I am insulted by what you have said. I've worked hard the past 2 1/2 years to be where I am today. I graduated from an LPN program in August, and just arrived home from taking NCLEX. Should I be embarrassed if I pass? I certainly will not be! I will be proud. If at some time in the future I decide to continue my education, then hurray for me, but I will not be embarrassed to be an LPN for the rest of my days!

As for your plans for your future, perhaps you should become an MD, instead of just an RN. Why not shoot for the top.

Wow. What an oppurtunity! If I were in your position, I would want to stay at home, and go to school. I understand the need to allow someone else to pay for school, but if your fiancee (or did you say boyfriend?) is making so much (at least here in Abilene) would it be possible to SAH and just go to school? Think of all the time you will be away from your baby, and the new marriage that you are vowing into. That needs time, and if you put to much on your plate, you may not be able to eat it all. Talk it over with your soon-to-be husband. This really should be between the two of you. Good luck in your decision. And please keep us posted.

I have a very high sense of self-worth, thank you. I take pride in who i am as a person. I am an excellent mother, attractive, and I have a high IQ, need I go on?

However, I am SICK of being told that an LPN is not a nurse, LPN's cannot do this or that, etc. If that were not the case, I would remain as an LPN...

I was asking for opinions only on what I should do. Don't dare assume that I have "underlying issues of self-worth" when you don't even know me.

If you really don't want to be an RN, but are not satisfied with the job title of LPN, I personally wouldn't bother with going back for the RN. It's a challenging program and unless it's something you really want, it would be easy to start it and not finish it. I'm sorry you're not happy with your current role.

With regard to wanting to be a mommy, that's awesome. I would humbly suggest that you not rely on your boyfriends income to support a family though. In the event that the relationship doesn't last, you're going to need a solid income of your own in order to raise your children. I'd also suggest that you resolve the career issue before deciding to have children. Lots to consider! :wink2:
