I am considering doing my BSN online. Are there any RN's here who have completed their BSN online? I have done alot of research, but having a hard time deciding which school.
I have talked with Chamberlin College. This school offers a fast track program that would take about a year full time to complete. They are accredited, and say they have a good reputation. I think my biggest worry is if it provides a good education since it does not take that long to complete. I would have about 11 classes to complete.
I just started doing research with Clarion University. 2 years full time. I have not had an evaluation done, but looks like about 21 classes give or take. Probley would have to buy a new computer also.
I would love to get done in a year, but do not want to take the easy way out if Clarion offers a better education. Any thoughts or suggestions?

My husband is currently doing his RN-BSN through Fort Hays University in Kansas. It's 100% online, and one of the most inexpensive programs you can find. I believe he'll get his BSN in about 15 months or so.

I sent you a PM. I, too, am a student at FHSU. It has it's pros and cons, but overall it was the right fit for me at this time. And it's affordable to the point that I'm simply writing a check every semester for my tuition. No student loan debt for me, thanks.
Thank you!!!!!!!!! I will check it out.

A look in the distance learning forum might show the posts from someone who found the EC RN to BSN program too problematic. There is a course where you have to procure the use of an actual exam room and video tape a head to toe assessment, then send this to EC. The person posting could not comply with all of this, so dropped from the program and went with Chamberlain. Personally, I would tend to look for programs that do not have next to impossible busywork or clinical placements. Totally online sounds fine to me.

I'm getting my BSN with Chamberlain. I started Sept. 2008, and I'll finish Oct 2010, little over 2 years. I wanted to do only one course at a time, so that's why it's taken so long. Chamberlain staff is wonderful! The program is totally on line, no clinicals.

I would first check with your state schools as the tuition may be less.
Also, if I am trying to sell you something I will tell you that I have a good reputation. They may be excellent, but request references if possible.

Thank you so much for posting about FHSU. It looks great! $5040 for the 30 units of the RN-BSN classes.
I know University of Wyoming is inexpensive as well. I'm in California and Cal State Dominguez Hills is pretty inexpensive too.
I very much like the fact that you don't need O chem for FHSU because I haven't taken that yet! :)
About how long to get thru the program at FHSU?
Thanks for the tips! I am waiting on a return call from FHSU. Less money sounds great!

I graduated from Excelsior BSN in 2001. I completed the physical assessment test and it did not require an exam room. It can easily be done in your home. I took the course through Athabasca University and all equipment needed was sent to my home from their library for the duration of the course. I completed the video in my home using my husband as the patient. It is an exacting test requiring a complete physical assessment including verbalizing normal findings. It took approximately 90 minutes and I could not stop the tape and no special effects were allowed. I was only allowed to refer to notes 10 times in the session. I was required to prepare a written report of my findings. It sounds much easier than it was. It required knowledge and practice of a detailed physical assessment. It is definitely doable. Excelsior also offered onsite testing where they provide the patient, exam room and patient if the student wanted and paid the fees. There was also an option to complete the requirement through another school or on the job. Excelsior is very good at finding a way for students to complete the requirements with their available resources.
Good luck with your degree.
