Online Microbiology

I am a New Mexico Registered Nurse trying to transfer my license to California. The California Board of Registered Nursing (CA BRN) is requiring me to take Microbiology (which was not required in NM). Does anybody know of any online microbiology courses that are approved by the CA BRN?

I have looked into the University of Phoenix and the 'ISP Program' offered by Southern California University of Health Sciences in Los Angeles. I am currently located in a small town 3 hours away from LA and 2 hours away from Bakersfield so online options are really the best for me.

Thanks for any advice or recommendations!

Can you share which CA school accepted your onlin pre reqs? You can PM if possible...i hope you read this :-) thank you

Hi, I am currently in the same situation. I endorsed my RN license into the state of CA and have not heard anything from the BRN. I was not required to take a microbiology class... Did you end up finding an online microbiology class with lab that the CA BRN accepted? Thank you for your help!

Were you able to resolve this?

I am currently in the same situation as well. I work with my BSN in Arizona trying to transfer to California. They are requiring me to take a Microbiology course with a lab. I called the CA state board of nursing twice and received 2 different answers whether or not they will accept an online course with a lab. The first time I called, they said they will accept it. The second time I called, to verify through which schools, they said it has to be a hybrid course. I've looked into Trident University, University of Phoenix and Arapahoe Community College of Colorado.

I find myself in the same situation as others in this thread. I am a licensed RN in Florida and microbiology (and lab) was not a prerequisite. I am looking to obtain my RN license in CA but cannot without this class. I spoke to Trident University in CA who offers an online course with the lab. I was told by CA BON that they would accept any accredited online school in CA but are unable to confirm anything until transcripts are reviewed. Trident University is regionally accredited in CA but would prefer to know 100% before I spend 1500+ and find out my licensed is rejected. Has anyone taken the online Microbiology and lab at Trident University and successfully obtained the CA RN license? If not Trident possibly you could recommend other online school that CA accept. Thank you

I know this is an old thread, but would love to know what Microbiology course people ended up taking and if the Cali BON accepted it. I am looking at online courses. Thank you

I know a few people who took it online through University of Phoenix and didn’t have any issues with the BON. I heard the class is pretty expensive, though. Also, most of the community colleges in CA are offering sciences online right now due to Covid.
