online FNP programs

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which programs are the best online program choices for FNP?

goes to show some ppl try to get by with the min and the gov doesnt care.

"Minimum" doesn't even figure in the equation. The government doesn't care because they've read all the research about the effectiveness of NPs. It helps to be up on what's happening before you try to argue in public.

im talking about anykind of health care program not just NP.

plus i never said NPs arent effective. i know a great one who works in the ER

Sorry, so what did you mean by "the government does not care?"..............

I'm doing pharm in the Spring, maybe along with an easy elective. Would that be too much considering I work also?

Hey Guys!

I hope you don't mind my jumping in here:)

Quick Q: Does it make any sense for me to do RN-BSN-MSN route online, and later apply for FNP cert program? I have both B.S (premed), and M.S.(O.M). I'm comming back to the acute care. Been out of hopital work for the past 10yrs. I just accepted ER staff position (hope I'll last long enough there):rotfl: :uhoh3: Anyway, my prospective employer has lots of free "b"s, but they will not support (reimburse) me for the FNP thing. BSN/MSN no problem. Also if you guys could give me an advice on reputable online BSN/MSN programs I'd really appreciate it. I visited allnursingschools.com, and requested info from lots of places...:rotfl: ...I just stoped picking up my phone anymore:uhoh3: :chuckle . But Univ of Phoenix, and Kaplan U got hold of me right away, and both did very thorough job of walking me step-by-step of their respective programs. UOPh seems a little pricey though. Any toughts experiences...please.

Thanks

Paps:D :thankya:

I've heard some negative things about UOP and Kaplan but have no personal experience with them. They are some 'go getter" hustlers though with getting students. I went with UAB because they are a solid school with a good reputation and the online program tuition is "resident rates" which made me very happy. I think my total fees for a 3 hr course was $773. Some are that much for 1 hr!

Hey Zenman!

Thanks for a tip. I'll check UAB out. It only makes sense that they charge resident rates for the online course. You could be a resident of any place on Earth on the net:chuckle . But of course, I realize they don't have to. And it's very nice of them. How far into the program are you? How do you feel about the material, it's relavance to what you need, and a grading system, and anything related to UAB in general?

Thanks a lot:)

I am also in the program at UAB. This is my 2nd semester, so far I love everything about it. The instructors are very good. The instructors also call from time to time just to make sure everything is going ok. The classes take a good bit of time for reading. The assignments are submitted through a website "dropbox". All of the "core" classes must be taken first before beginning the classes for the specific tracks.

Try http://www.uab.edu

Click on schools, then school of nursing.

Hope this helps! And Zenman.......... I'll "see" you next semester for pharm!

papadoc, I'm in the post-masters program and taking my first course...pathphysiology. I did my masters in psych so we did psychopath instead of pathophysiology. I have no problem at all with the school. Everyone has been nice and helpful, including finding the instructors for next semesters course so I could find out what textbook to order...since it may take a few months to get to me!

I have to agree with ramiro ac. I also don't feel that NP programs should be done online. For starters, I don't feel that you can possibly get the same level of education as you can in the classroom. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but there is something inherently valuable and irreplaceable about the student-student, student-faculty interaction that only can take place in the classroom. Additionally, online programs serve only to enhance the belief that NPs are suboptimal providers with suboptimal education, not as good as physicians (which may or may not be true anyway, but that's another discussion altogether), and to make people believe that we got our diplomas out of a Cracker Jack box. Throughout this website there are multiple posts from multiple people pissing and moaning about the fact that the nursing profession (RN and NP/CRNA) gets no respect. It is programs like this that contribute to that belief. Like it or not, we need to not simply find the easy way out here, and to jump through society's well established hoops in order to gain the respect that we deserve. That respect cannot be found online. In short, suck it up and do the time.

Maybe there is a little bit of the "if I had to do it then so do you" attitude going on here, or maybe I'm just not keeping up with technological times, but I had to work very hard, commute two hours a day three days a week for three years (while working full-time by the way) to earn my Master's degree, and I don't appreciate all of my hard work and sacrifice being belittled and grouped into the same category as someone who sits on their ass in their living room and "earns" their degree online. Did I receive a better education than my online peers? Absolutely! And no one will convince me otherwise.
