Object that Represents Nursing?

Hey guys, my NPI instructed our class to bring an object that represents Nursing... it cannot be something very obvious (stethoscope, text books, bandages, etc), any suggestions? Thanks!

    I would bring a candle, as nurses we "shine a light" on the needs of our patients. It is also a reminder of Florence Nightingale, also known as "the lady with the lamp".

    I would bring a heart of some sort. You can hand draw or bring a picture of one....

    My director of nursing is always talking about the old "little golden books". They have one called nurse Nancy.

    If you're religious a Bible might be a good idea. There are a lot of patients that ask for readings.

    For me personally I would bring a star. I have found stars to pop up for me in a lot of weird places and have become my "thing".

    If I were tasked with this assignment, I would probably bring a stethoscope (personal connection between my Grandma and nursing) or see if I can find a nurse's cap.

    A lamp is the obvious choice -- since it is the "official" symbol of our profession.

    But on a more personal level ... I would bring something related to one of the following themes:

    1. Knowledge, information, etc. representing that nursing is based on knowledge. It's is a "learned" profession as well as a technical one.

    2. Something related to nursing history -- representing the legacy of those who have come before us, established our profession, and gave us principles to follow.

    3. Something related to service to mankind -- past, present, and future. Evolving service.

    If I could find something that related to all of those themes together, that is what I would bring. -- Eg. a great book or picture depicting an older generation of nurses teaching a younger generation of nurses.

We are vigilant - preventing errors; watching for changes that may indicate complications or additional problems; alerting physicians so that they can intervene promptly...... etc.

    So, I am kinda torn between symbols - lifeboat? lighthouse? definitely something that would indicate "safe passage".. or for those who are more action oriented, some sort of warrior figure? -- "Ninja nurse" Hey, I like that one.

    I would bring a heart, a hand,and I life preserver. For caring, the hand that heals and that we save lives.
