hey all

i am doing a little bit of research- my doctor gave me a sample nuva ring today, and i've been interested in taking it for awhile but....i want to find out a little bit about it before i use it.

i've been on birth control pills for about five years now, and while they've worked wonderfully (a/e/b NO KIDS), taking them has defeated the purpose because, well....BCP's have a lovely "low libido" side-effect.

has anyone had this issue with Nuva Ring? what about side effects- has anyone had them? THANKS!

I loved the nuva ring, personally. I thought it was fabulous. I put one in every 3 weeks so I wouldn't have a period. Again, fabulous. Didn't have any side effects at all.

I have been on the Nuva Ring for about a year now. No side effects what so ever. Best BC I've been on. Have been on Ortho Tricyclen and the Patch. NuvaRing is perfect it stays in for 3 weeks take out for a week. I've done on occasionally where I put one ring in for 3weeks and immediately replaced it with another one so I didn't have a period that month. My doctor said it was perfectly fine even though they haven't done studies on that.

I have only done that twice, in the summer (hate periods in the summer). My periods are lighter and I get heavy periods but since using I haven't. I cramp less too. Your S.O. will not feel the Nuvaring in you. You can check the placement every other day when you are new to it because you might think it slipped out (never happened to me yet) cause you CAN'T feel it.

Just curious, have any of you noticed a difference in your PMS symptoms? I am very interested in hearing more. Thanks everyone for sharing.

I love the NuvaRing! I still have PMS symptoms, but mostly the emotional ones(ie crankiness, irritability, bitchiness!) Also, just because no one else mentioned it earlier, I thought I would mention it. I used it before I planned on getting pregnant, Then we decided to get pregnant, and got pregnant the first month off of the Nuva Ring. So, it didn't hang around in my system at all! After I had my child, and was done breastfeeding, I went right back on it, and couldn't be happier!

thanks to everyone who replied! i'm interested in hearing more about people's experiences, it kind of helps me know what to expect. i went ahead and inserted the ring last night- so far, my husband has asked me a million questions about it- so many that i'm about to just had him the little booklet it came with and tell him to go read it, lol. anyway, i really can't feel it AT ALL. i put it in mid-cycle, that is, when i have two more weeks of my birth control pills left....but the info packet and my doctor said i could do that, so whatever i guess. i love it! i guess my only concern is how to tell if it slips out or not...heh

Do you have to continue taking your birth control pills for a set amount of time once you start the Nuva Ring, or is the Nuva Ring effective birth control the moment you insert it? It seems to me that the Nuva Ring would be similar to the pill and that the Nuva Ring wouldn't be effective until you had used it for a while, and that therefore, you would need a backup form of birth control (your pill) for a while. Correct?

Not sure if this falls under the 'giving advice' Terms of Service, but definitely do NOT use birth control pills as back up after you've put in the Nuva Ring- too many hormones! Use a non-hormonal barrier method (ie condoms, spermicides) for back-up until your NuvaRing has been in place for AT LEAST 7 days.

Nuvaring's website (http://www.nuvaring.com) has lots and lots of good info about their product, btw.

I had problems with the Nuvaring- I was too sensitive to it (burning, itching, & pain).

I liked the ease of use but I turned into Cybil on it! My moods were all over the place. happy, then crappy, then near-tears, snapping at patients too! NOT like me. I took it out and moods went back to normal.

The NuvaRing gave me the worst headaches I have ever had in my life. CRUSHING headaches. I had to take it out. I tried to use it three times the headaches came within an hour of putting it in. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this with any type of birth control?

Thanks for correcting me - I should have been more clear in my question - I was thinking that some sort of back of method of b/c needed to be used until the Nova Ring took effect, and I was actually thinking along the lines of condoms, spermicides, diapragm, etc when I posted about "continuing the pill" - my bad :imbar - makes sense that you don't want to overload your body w/ hormones - Thanks again for the clarification/correctionicon14.gif
