Is it ok for someone to work as a nurse without a license as long as they work directly under a doctor/another nurse?
Thanks............jan

NO!! It is illegal to practice & present yourself as a nurse when you do not have a license!

No no no no no. You can work as an MA or NA under a Dr. supervision, but never a nurse. Just like a Dr., you are a licensed professional and cannot represent yourself as such unless you really are.

I don't think so. I still think that you need your own license.

no, never!! it is against the law to "claim you are a nurse". if i'm not mistaken you can get jail time if you are caught.

Now I'm curious why the question was posed in the first place, go figure. Isn't the answer fairly obvious?
It would be in complete violation of the Nurse Practice Act in every state and prosecutable. Every Nurse who meets the standards for licensure is demonstrating that she has met the "minimum" standards required by her/his state board. The bottom line is public safety.

My thoughts exactly:confused:
I'm totally with you too guys....it's soooo obvious....to practice any kind of profession specially nursing required license. Remember that our responsibility is to practice a quality patient care......

maybe not always obvious to everyone
eg. a few years back I went for an interview and met a young woman running an agency - I explained that I had not yet registered but could arrange it - she wanted to hire me on the spot to work that evening, and even offered me a job as the weekend supervisor. I explained that I would contact the registering association about this, they of course said no. But the young woman would have hired me and obviously didn't know about the requirement for nurses to be registered.

Wow! Gingersue i'm totally in shock! Well, is obvious that the young lady does not knew or maybe does not care on violate the law at that moment, maybe she was desperate looking for someone .....thanks for sharing......:))
Totally ignorant and risky!

This only reinforces what I have said about some agencies. They only care about placing a body and have no idea of anything else associated with it. It is always going to be your license on the line, and not theirs.
