Nursing Books

I was wondering how many books do you need for the first semester, the name of the books, and how much did you pay?

This my books for nursing school, I purchased them all from my school. I didn't shop around because this seemed fair and the couple of places I did look the price was about the same. In our nursing bag we received highlighters, foley catheter kit, a couple scissors, gait belt, calculator, stapler, pen light, and a cool duffel bag. My college is ran through the hospital, it is pretty cool and I believe we were not charged for the items in the duffel bag. Everything within the bag and the bag had the college and hospital name on it. I may be wrong but there was no charge for it.

So are these the only books you need for the whole program or will you need all of this for the first semester. I want to know what you will use just during the fist semester.

This is just my first semester:)

For the first year I think I paid between $500-$600. Check Amazon, you might be able to find books for a cheaper price and most of the time they are in decent condition. This list included a Fundamentals of Nursing book, Clinical Skills book by Potter & Perry, Fundamentals of Nursing and Video Skills by Potter & Perry, Assessment book by Jarvis (excellent!), a drug book, medical-surgical nursing text book and care plan book. These are books that you will use throughout your entire program.

For each semester after that I probably spent $100-$150 because we had to buy another text book, such as a book on Maternity and Newborn Nursing when we got to OB/L&D, etc. During school I would just trade books with classmates that way we would save money.

That's a good idea. Thanks

I have a loooong list.

Fundamentals of Nursing (Potter&Perry)

^^Clinical Handbook

Med Surg Nursing (LeMone)

^^Study Guide

Nursing Diagnosis (Carpentito)

Strategies, Techniques, & Approaches to Critical Thinking (Castillo)

Leadership Roles and Management Functions in Nursing (Marquis & Huston)

Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (Kee)

Pharmacology for Nurses (Adams)

Henke's Med Math (Buchholz)

Nurses 2013 Drug Handbook (Lippincott)

I also had to get a Med Deck. And I got the Saunders NCLEX Comprehensive Review. Everything together probably cost about $600. I also had my fundamentals text given to me.

I am not sure which books I will use the semester after this one.... I have not had class so I do not know which books will be used next semester and which books I will have to buy next semester:bugeyes: We will see....

$600...wow...This semester my books ranged in a little over $3000. My tuition was only $838!! We have a list of a total of nine hardback books (that include ebooks) and Kaplan access codes!! I needed to take a full load, so I had to purchase 2 additional books (SOC 210 & a computer course)...NUR111 books were: Concepts of Nursing Practice, Med-Surg Nursing, Fund of Nursing, Clinical Nursing Skills & Techniques, Pharmacology of Nursing Care, Calculation of Drug Doses, Nursing Diagnosis Handbook, Mosby's Dictionary, Manual of Diagnostic & Laboratory Tests...thats not even including the supplemental books I HAD to purchase (NCLEX, Patho, Test Success, etc)! This is only just for first semester.

$3k? Even at $150 per book (which is top end) that's 20 books. That should be more than enough for an entire BSN, maybe even MSN

Now my tuition was $4000.00 this semester. I wish my tuition was under a thousand but I am glad my books were not $3000.00 lol

I know right...the other semesters we have a couple of more Kaplan items to purchase then only 2 more books for Mental Health & Maternity!! It is RE-DIC-U-LOUS...but Im sure it will be alllllll worth it!! :)
