Nurses Week

My hospital is celebrating Nurses Week this week. So far all the nurses got ice cream treats one day, then the Littman stethoscope lady came and gave out free ear pieces, we got surprise presents on wed. (Idid not work that day so not sure what the surprise was), today was "wear your nurses cap" day. It was kind of funny to see the managers all running around in starched white and caps because no one else really did it. We got discounts in the uniform store also and I got one of those cute smiley face antenna toppers with a nurses cap on. So anyway, my question is, are your facilities doing the same things? Happy nurses week!

:uhoh21: :uhoh21: For nurse"s week, let's see, in my paycheck today I got a scanned copy of a card the agency bought and copied a zillion times. That's it. Needless to say, I am very disappointed:nono:

Our facilities celebreates nurses week quite well actually. The nurse managers hand out cards and presents (usually a pen, or calculator, note pad or something....last year we got pedometers). They also arrange for a free lunch or BBQ and have theme day one day, I believe tomorrow is "White out day" where you wear your traditional whites and caps (my class didn't have that kind of stuff though). We also arrange to have speakers come (education dept.) and this year we arranged for a humorist and also a nurse laywer whom I've heard speak before, who will come in and give a talk on nursing legalities and charting problems, ect. So, overall I think they do a pretty decent job at celebrating this week! It's just too bad the union and the nurses are in the midst of negotiations and are threatening to strike!!!

As far as I know, we're getting a t-shirt and a 30 minute nursing reception one afteroon and again that night.

Well... my facility just went out of their way to celebrate *dryly*

We had our reception today, which was themed as a "Hollywood Premiere"... the nurse managers were dressed as movie stars... there was Marilyn Monroe, Paris Hilton, Mae West, Elly Mae and Elvira (???). Our DON was Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra...:lol2: that was the funny part. They gave us a pen, a keychain and a notepad with a calculator in it. We had punch, cookies, dry chocolate cake, and sausage or chicken drumettes. They gave away door prizes, I think like gift certificates or plants (Lord knows my unlucky self didnt win anything:rolleyes:) They had big cardboard printouts (life size) of Elvis, John Wayne, Beyonce...celebrities like that. And glitter and confetti everywhere. We voted for Nurse of the Year and CNA of the Year. I guess, overall, it was better than them not doing anything at all... They had a nice slideshow done of pictures they had taken of the nursing staff.

Just reading through a few of the comments is giving me ideas for next year. So thanks for that all of you. We're a tad behind with the "celebrate all week" thing in my part of the world but something we could work on cultivating I am sure. We start our celebrations with Midwives day on 5th May and then International Nurses Day 12th May. So think of us Nurses "down under" on Thursday 4th if you are in the Northern Hemisphere reading this. this is a fantastic forum for us all and one that although I don't regularly answer on I find encourging. I'd never get any work done if I spent all day and night on the computer.

So, to all my international nursing colleagues, keep doing the best nursing and be proud to be a nurse.

My hospital so far...has not even put up a banner, sent an e-mail or even acknowledged nurses day (I did send out a Happy Nurses Day e-mail to ALL employees). No we, so far, are only going to celebrate Hospital Week, I'm sure since complaints have been sent to the PR dept that we will get an afterthought pat on the back. At our place its ALL outpatient promo cause that's the money making service(s), inpatient...we are just trouble (cost draining so they can't afford to recognise nurses). I know bitter ain't I.

Our facility is giving out some sort of little gift one day, then one day we get some kind of gift handed to us by the one and only DON (I'm just so starstruck, dont'cha know!). Each day we get some sort of snack/treat.

I guess my hospital celebrates it pretty well, I'm just harboring a lot of bitterness towards them right now. One, because I'm tired of all of the bulls*** politics at my hospital, and two, because the hospital celebrates Nurses' Week, Lab Tech's week, Respiratory Therapy Week, Occupational Therapist's Week, PBX Operator's Week, Sleep Lab Technician's Week, Housekeeper's Week, Hospital Gift Shop Worker's week... and on and on and on, you get the idea.

HOWEVER, when in an Operation's Council meeting, it was suggested that the hospital celebrate and do something for, I think it's National Nurse's Aide day or something like that... the answer was "Oh, that's up to the individual units and unit managers, if they want to celebrate THAT."

Gee whiz... as a former Nurse's Aide, I speak for all Nurse's Aides in the hospital and around the world when I say... thanks a LOT.

My hospital is calling it "Hospital Week" & celebrating every hospital profession rather than simply nurses. All I've seen really being offered is a breakfast or a lunch.

We never know what we're going to get for Nurses Week. We did learn that two Littmann repair people will be there for two day to service steths for free. Reason why we know this is that people schedules appts, so they wouldn't have to stand in a long line.

I do know that we never have to buy lunch or breakfast during Nurses Week. Surgical groups take turns feeding us that week.

It was Nurse's Week?!?!? Gee, all I got was the opportunity to work OT.
