For those of you who work in the valley NICU's, I have a couple of questions.
1) Does anyone use statlocks on their PIV sites? If so, what do you think of them?
2) How often do you change your TPN/lipid tubing?
Any input would be appreciated, thanks!

We stock Stat-locks in our NICU, but only some of the nurses use them. I like them, but I have only used them occasionally. I do love how they secure an IV, however!
We change TPN, IV fluid, and flush tubing every 72 hours. We change intralipid tubing every 24 hours.

I haven't seen stat locks used at all!
We change TPN every 24 hours -- all bags and all tubing. Lipids & tubing are changed every 12 hours!

We use stat locks on full term kids, they are kind hard to fit on the smaller kids.
Our TPN tubing is Q96 and IL is Q24.

We don't use stat locks.
We change TPN/IL every 24 hours, along with all tubing and any drips on the same line.
Wow. I am so glad we don't have to change lipid tubing q12h!

Which valley?
In my valley, we change TPN/IL q24.
Why change the tubing every 12? That is a lot of line breaking! What are your line sepsis rates? We were ecstatic when we went to Q96hr tubing changes!
Hanging fluids is one of the main things I do NOT miss since I went to day shift. :)
Thanks for the input. We change all tubing out q24 and lipids q12. For those who change out q72 or q96 did you get those guidelines from CDC? Have your clabsi rates improved?
Our CLABSI rates have improved, and we actually went two years without any central line infections. We develop an evidence base for all of our guidelines, so the practice of changing the TPN lines every 72 hours has been supported in the research we did to change our practice. Prior to that, we changed everything q24h.
