New grad needs help finding a job?

I recently graduated and im having trouble finding a full time job that works for me. I applied to my hospitals residency but i was turned down because the hospital just switched over to magnet status and i do not have a bsn. I went to a community college and got an associates degree.

I work per diem now at a rehabilitation hospital but this past week i was called off due to the census being low. Myself and a few of the full time staff members. The census has been extremely low im worried i will not be able to get enough hours. (Im per diem because they did not have any openings for full time positions) The reason i took this job was because i thought it would give me the closest thing to hospital experience.

I also worked for a home care agency for 4 years doing home health aide but they wont take me as a new nurse because they want at least a 1 year experience.

I do not want to end up in ltc but it seems to be the only option now.

What jobs hire new grads with no experience ? Or any jobs willing to train new grads. I want a job that i can learn from and get as much experience as i can.

You'll find that whether facilities accept new grads or nurses with associate degree is going to vary from region to region. There are three major medical systems in my area. All three hire new graduates into all units. In addition, all three also hire nurses with associate degrees. All three do require those nurses to start and complete their baccalaureate degree within specified times.

When you wrote in your other post that you were “having trouble finding a full time job that works for me,” is it possible that your desired criteria is making you a less than optimal candidate?

Best wishes.

When i stated that i was referring to full time positions preferably morning 12 hours or 8 hours. The LTC facilities i’ve come across only have openings for 3-11 which does not work for me.

At this point...you may not be able to be choosey since it seems you do not live in a medical shortage area (and those do exist).

It's flu clinic time. See if you can get a PRN gig with one of the vaccine companies administering flu and B12 and whatnot to employers.

Thanks for the suggestion. Ltc in my area has a big turnover rate. I interview viewed at a few places and the working conditions were horrible. I do work at a ltc now that is a really facility nice per diem. And the per diem subacute rehab. I want a full-time position with benefits because i have a young child. Market place insurance is very expensive. It seems like the best option is to stick with what i have now and wait for something to open up

Have you tried a psychiatric hospital?

As a new hire you may have to do a PM or Noc shift.

I have not come across any in my area. And unfortunately i cant with a preschooler. Nursing is not as flexible for single parent moms with little to no help.

Just put in applications everywhere, at every hospital, every department. I'm also an ADN and have been unable to get a hospital job. I've been doing Private duty nursing for a year. I hate it. I've been trying to get in a hospital for over a year. i already did the SNF thing as an LVN, never again. I'm enrolled in a BSN program, hoping that will help.

Good luck.
