New to allnurses!

Hello all! I am new to this website! I'm not sure where this thread would fit, but I was wondering if anyone had any stories of how this website has helped you and maybe some advice on things I should be careful about posting?

Thanks!

I think if you just make sure you spend some time reading the threads and responses that already exist, you'll be able to determine how things work here :)

Thanks! Definitely going to do that when I lay down tonight.

Just don't be offensive, don't think you know everything, and use the search feature (to make sure your question wasn't asked already).

There are certain questions that are asked over and over again (especially by students) and it gets tiresome. You aren't a student so things will be easier for you. Try to keep out of the NETY (Nurse's Eat Their Young) threads and ADN vs. BSN debates. Feel free to share your knowledge and experiences. Welcome!

Avoid Pearson Vue trick obsession threads

Yeah, I have noticed quite a chunk of those!

For some reason, Lev, it won't let me quote you. But thank you so much. Not so sure what you mean by nurses eat their young, haven't heard of that before. But will for sure stay out of any debates! Thank you for the welcome :) excited to find out new things from other people!

You have many things to learn from me.

Also avoid advice from this poster. Unless you *want* to be that nurse playing Candy Crush while ignoring call lights, with whom everyone hates working.

I've dealt with a few of those as well. They light my fire, and then continue to add fuel. In which I then have to put out and go see their patients myself. Then I think to myself...what are they doing here???

Chillin' playing some candycrush.

BWAHAHAHA! NOADLS is trolling again... I think you should come out of your cave more often, I've missed you!

NOADLS is a straight up parody persona. Just so you know.

Welcome to allnurses.com!

See RubyVee's "The Wisdom of Lurking" thread, and just about any of her other ones, for more info about what not to post. As far as what to post, whatever you feel like, as long as it doesn't violate TOS.

Some of the more controversial topics are the PVT, ADN vs BSN (for some reason there's rarely a diploma bashing thread), NETY threads, morally ambiguous activities like camming/pot, anti-vaccination (you'll see what I mean in September - every darn year), race/gender interactions, and my all time favorite, self-righteous martyr posts.

What have really been helpful for me over the years are the first year nurse posts, the specialty posts, and the coworker relations posts. I had some issues with integrating into nursing culture at first as I am a third? fourth? career nurse. It took me a long time to assimilate, and I still rock the boat occasionally.

Have fun, get a bag of popcorn for the entertainment threads, and enjoy the ride!

Yes! I was apart of that thread actually. I thought it was very informative. And it was even more so important for me to read because sometimes my comments can get me in trouble.
