NET Testing

I just called them, and they told me that only reading and basic math would be counted towards the final score, and also they guy told me that they've taken off addition and subtraction from the test.

and also there will be about 15 basic science questions and the school would look at them (in case if you're accepted), even though they dont count towards the final score.

I just took it a few weeks ago and there was definitely addition and subtraction on it.

Sorry, I missed the last part of your question last time I replied.

At my school, calculators are allowed, but I know the ERI website says no calculators. It all depends on your school. I do know that when I took my test, I found the calculator to slow me up on the easy questions. I only use it on the decimals and ratios.

Now, for your other questions (and I don't mind answering, that is what I am here for!!!) yes, only the math and reading are counted toward your grade. I am not sure why there are science questions on there if they don't consider those, but...I don't make the rules!!! I just don't know if they would want a student who was through their pre reqs and who failed all the science questions...

As far as the math, it was VERY BASIC. Just add., sub., mult., div., then percentages, ratios, decimals and several basic algebra questions. Seriously, everyone goes in there stressing about the math, then finds out that portion is very easy and the reading is the difficult part. The NET test is very, very similar to the website. That is why I refer it so much, it is so true to what is on the NET. There is no statistics or trig or calculus or anything above elementary algebra. The math portion of this test is in no way like the THEA or Accuplacer or any college entrance tests. Really very basic math. One of those websites that I posted above actually shows you what the test looks like on the computer. They have take screen shots of the test, so go over that site and get an idea of what it shows.

About retaking the test, again, it all depends on what your school allows. My school only allows retests 1 time in two years, some schools allow retests 2x a semester, and some allow it however many times you want to pay for it!!

Each individual school has the ability to use what ever version they choose (there are several different versions) and basically set their own rules on it.

There are 2 ways to take the test, either pen and paper or on the computer. So either way, you should be able to use scratch paper. If you take it on the computer, you should get your score right then. If not, then it can take a few weeks to get your grade. I take a lot of online classes, so I prefer to take tests online, but other people kind of freak about it, and it tends to blow their concentration.

But, the thing to remember is that it is a timed test, so go as fast as you can but slow enough to understand what it is you are doing!! Be sure to answer as many as you can, because they grade on how many you answer. If you see that you are running out of time, go through and start guessing. You have a better chance doing that then leaving them unanswered.

You know how when you call them first they ask you which state you are calling from and then transfer you, maybe it varies from state to state... i dont know, but thats what i've been told. If there are additions and subtractions, thats even better

I just looked over it for a couple of hours for several days, mainly to brush up on my math. I had been out of school almost 20 years and was very unsure of my math. The NET study guide (in my opinion) just really didn't seem to offer much help in the way of preparedness. That is why I have posted the websites on here. I felt like the $30 I shelled out for the study guide was a HUGE waste of money. I didn't know of any websites prior to taking my test (every search that I did for the NET come up to the ERI site) so when I saw the HFCCLAB site posted on here and saw how good it was, I started posting it also. I am in no way afiliated with that college, matter of fact, don't even know anything about it or where it is, but they have done a great job with the practice tests and preparing one to take the test.

I called the school I am applying to and they told me they give the written version of the NET and that it has a math, reading, grammer and science portion. I know what to expect and study for the math and reading but what about the grammer and science? Apparently the minimum score required is 55% composite score but they take the highest scores first. There are also three other parts but she didnt mention what they were. I'm worried already and the test is amonth away. Please help

This is how my school catagorized the NET:

ENGLISH: spelling, grammer, contextual words, sentence structure

MATH: Integers, (subtraction, addition, multiplication, division) whole numbers; fractions, decimals, percents, pattern recognition, word problems:devil:

READING: paragragh and passage comprehension, drawing inferences and conclusions, graph, chart

I just went to Borders and bought the Cliff'sTestPrep Nursing School Entrance Exam. It was 15 bucks so it wasn't too bad. I have been thumbing through it and it seems to be very thorough although more info. than I really need. It has practice tests along w/ all exercises.
